school uniforms

do you think students need to wear uniforms

this is the first poll ive ever done so i hope it works..... i have to get a poll for a class and hopefully i will get 20 ppl by tuesday

I don't think we should, but it does help the people who can't afford good close from being picked on.

True thats a good point but they could still get picked on because of thier personality.

Although whilst I was at school I hated (with a passion!) my school uniform, I do think they're a good idea. As Chris said, it prevents people who don't have much money from getting picked on because they can't afford the latest clothes - although having said that uniforms can be very expensive (though this can be combatted with the uniform allowance benefits, at least in England).

I think also it prevents a lot of hassle - you don't have to think about what you're wearing every day, if you don't follow fashion that much you won't have to fear being bullied, and there can be no discrimination as everyone's clothes will be the same.

I know whilst I was at school I really wished we didn't have to wear a school uniform, but now I've left and with hindsight I think they're a good idea.

Sorry I am all against school uniforms, sure they are great equalizers and everything, but I can't imagine it. I don't have clothes up to the latest trend, and sometimes people make fun of me for it. But I still prefer to wear what I want, it allows a lot more creative freedom. You can let everyone know whether or not your sad, or happy, or whatever your feeling just by what you wear.

So I am against uniforms.

I never had to wear an uniform but I wish I did lol XD some of them can be really pretty, and seriously it would have saved so much time for me in the morning if I hadn't had to look around and try to find something to wear

i agree with marie and amy, i think school uniforms are a good idea...i dont have to fuss about what i wear every single morning!

Your uniform is better than mine was! Of course, they changed it from the nasty brown uniform (which earned us the nickname "Brown Cows on the Hill" from the local, ahem, Shaz school), just after we went into sixth form and didn't have to wear it anymore!

My school uniform was horrible though... I just looked for a pic so I could show you, but the best I could find is a pic of my English group. You can kind of see the horribleness of the uniform in it, and I swear, I am in this pic, at the back on the right :D

Aww looking at that has made me all nostalgic *sob* That room is the IT room which was my form room for Year 12 and 13. I don't keep in touch with hardly any of them people...

They are itchy though I hate mine.

i never had to wear a uniform and as for trying to decide what to wear to school isnt a problem for me i just grab something and put it on

Except that one Andy bought me because he thought I looked cute in it - which i don't!!

Anyway, i don't think it matters what i say now, but i just feel like saying it anyway xD Well, i think uniforms would make us all 'the same' as in boring. Sure, i still think that a person is equal to another, and that we are all unique in our own way, but wouldn't it be boring if you had to pull on the same clothes day after day after day after aday after day after day.... sometime you just would feel like pulling that banana costume from last Halloween on :D ...not that i have one but... xD

Sure, some people would have troubles with deciding what to wear, and what other people would think about it, and stuff like that.

While they spend hours on thinking about that, some people would just be thrilled by the opportunity to get crazy and wear that banana costume!

Once again, I would liek to remind that I don't have one.

I think that uniforms are good and bad. It is ood for those who can not afford good clothes, because they avoid a lot of teasing.
However, they are still bad as they are often a tensy bit expinsivve, and limit your personality.

No. I read the whole 'prevents people who don't have much money from getting picked on because they can't afford the latest clothes' and I have to disagree. I could never afford decent looking uniforms while others could. I got stuck with these ugly white polos that were just eww. I also dont look good in white and most schools make you if they have uniforms, at least the ones I attended.

I dont know. I hate my uniform but at least it doesnt section people out as being different

I like uniforms, the cheer leaders don't stand out as much and wave their name brand clothes in your face

I liked wearing a uniform when I was...in fifth grade and didn't care much about clothing. But in high school I loved being able to express myself by wearing whatever I wanted.

And if anyone wants to bully another student, the fact that they're all wearing uniforms isn't going to stop them. They can and will make fun of glasses, hairstyle, acne, skin color, sexual orientation and whatever else they can get their little fangs into.

I said that yes, students should wear uniforms, because if I have to wear one everyone else should have to too

haha sike. I actually do like my uniform... its a lot better than the middle school uniform haha. Those were plaid and blue and itchy and gross... in high school we just wear white or blue polos and khaki skirts... its actually pretty nice

But uniforms don't make you all look the same, you know. Some people have longg skirts, down to their knees, like the rules say, some people have the skirt hemmed short like crazyyyyyyyy.

I mean, sometimes I hate my uniform, but its cute when little old people ask you if you go to this or that schooland go on about how their grandchildren go to that school because they wear the same uniform...

While in some cases students can dress a bit out of hand; uniforms are too conforming. They do not allow chances for creativity and for kids to develop into their own original people. I vote no.

I had to do a debate on this... I think that uniforms should be orn, cause I think it takes a lot of stress and distractionds out of the school setting.

Alright, I have something that I just HAVE to say.

All y'all are arguing that dressing in uniforms make kids not creative and supresses individuality. So your saying that kids' personalities will be affected by wearing the same thing as other kids? Schools don't have uniforms to make the kids feel bad, its to make the kids look nice and in unity with other students.

If your kids feel like they're being suppressed because they have to wear a uniform to school, that's ridiculous. They should develop their creativity and individuality in other ways. Like talking. To other people. Or taking up art. Or doing their hair differently. Or SOMETHING.

I'm tired of this whole "creativity, expressing themselves, oppression, blah blah blah" arguement. Uniforms aren't that bad.

i think they should because a lot of people at my school get picked on because of things they wear. i think uniforms would really help with this problem!

I'm surprised at the percentage who have said yes. I think it's wise to have school uniforms for all the usual reasons.

I personally am unsure. Because our school uniform is so expensive (and my blazer has just got mangled in the wash, but tht is another story) some people can not afford the whole uniform, therefore get picked on. But i do agree with others about money for normal clothes. However, no matter if u have a uniform or not, people will always customize it. Loads of girls roll up their skirts and add badges and boys take buttons off their shirts and add new ones, alsorts!

but i HATE our uniform! Its a nice colour but too expensive!! + Girls CAN NOT WEAR TROUSERS!!

To me its yes and no. yes because some people are teased by what they wear and how they look. I know that on picture day, everyone goes all out to make them self look like what they think is classy and good. But its not. I wear what I would normal wear. I nice shirt and a piar of my uniform pants. the dress trashy and wear baggy close and stuff making them look stripish. And no because some parents cant afford to buy uniforms every year. I know we have to wear some from other years. I have a pair I have been wearing since maybe 6th grade and I'm in 9th. Our school gives a list of what to wear and they tell use what is alirght and not. Then ones that are not right are the cheapest and the ones that are ok are the highest. Wear cant have more the 3 buttons on our shirt and we cant wear shorts or skirts, because they said it makes the school look hookerish. Just the close I need alone are 40 dollars right there and that just a pair of pants and 2 shirts. We have a certain pair of shoes to. Nikey or New Balance. Thats it, nothing else. So, I really dont see a reason why we cant wear in certain kind of uniform but i do think they are alright.

NO! We cant be individuals with the constraints of uniform. I manage to get away with a Shakespeare insult buttom badge on my blazer at the moment as it is a topic we are studying, but we really can't do much to personalise our uniform, and we are so uncomfortable in them.

Yes, in the winter. But in summer its too warm, own clothes then would be nice...

no. school systems shouldn't be telling students what to wear. i am opposed to uniforms but not necessarily dress code though/
