Who is Your Favorite Writer?

Who is your favorite writer, all time, and why?

I'm totally obsessed with John Marsden books. I can't read them too many times, they're fantabulous. I especially like the 'tomorrow when the war began'-series. It's something about their situation that just captures me, and the main character (ellie) I just love. Also, I like letters from the inside which is a brilliant book, even though it's all letters, and I usually don't read those kind of books.

This is a hard question, I don't think I could pick out one favourite writer, I'd have to say there are three: JK Rowling, Philip Pullman and Malorie Blackman. This is now, though, if you'd asked me this question when I was eight I would have said Enid Blyton, hehe.

I love the HP books, obviously. Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials are fantastic, and I also love his Sally Lockhart books. Malorie Blackman is a genius writer, if you haven't read Noughts and Crosses (and its sequels Knife Edge and Checkmate) go read them! They are so, so good, yet so, so sad.

her books have like 2000 pages each, but it's worth working through them, her stories are fantastic, and she puts so much historical detail into them that you feel you have learned more about scotland and america in the 1800's than your history teacher could every make you remember. she wrote 6 books, that belong together to the so-called Outlander series, in germany also called the Highland-Saga. "outlander", "Dragonfly In Amber", "Voyager", "Drums Of Autumn", "Fiery Cross", and her newest and thickest book yet: "A Breath Of Snow And Ashes"

I do love JK Rowling a lot, she's a very good writer.

But I think my favorite writer would have to be Lucy Maud Montgommery, a Canadian writer (from PEI) who wrote the Anne of Green Gables book (for those who know what is it) and lots of other books, including Emily of the New Moon, Kilmeny of the old Orchard, things like that. I simply love her work.

Wow, there's no way I'd have just one...I never stop reading.

So I'll go by most recent. I read an excellent book just YESTERDAY (lol, my favorite author changes every day) that I loved. It's sci-fi, fantasy--Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It was absolutely marvelous...

I love Philip Pullman as well as Caroline Cooney. Margeret Haddix is good (escape from memory is great) and I love the Alex Rider Series by Anthoney Horowitz. My sister (cute_polkadot_chick) is now into Lisi Harrison, who writes the Clique Series. :!: :bom: :silent: :@: :albino:

eoin colfer! omg, awesome writer. the artemis fowl series is definately in my top 5.

philip pullman- his dark materials trilogy. awe. some.

lisi harrison- the clique books are pretty good

and who can forget C.S. Lewis? great writer, and the Narnia books are also in my top 5.

Oh, it was a long time since i read the artemis fowl books... I need to reread them.

I really didn't love to read until Harry Potter to be quite honest - now I'm always reading - it's strange actually...JK is also the reason I'm into writing as well - so you can thank her for my wonderful fanfics!...lol[/code]

I would have to say J.R.R Tolkien then Bryce Courtenay sorry to say Rowling isnt up there

okay my fav is j.k rowling harry potter books der. THen Josheph DElancy for the spooks books and the falvour bujor for the prohesy of the jems. I also like matt thorne for the 39 castle books u av 2 read them they are great.

Oh man, there are soooo many! I guess, off the top of my head, I like J.K. Rowling, Phillup Pullman's His dark Materials are amazing and I like Christopher Paolini's books. I can't think of anymore even though I'm postive there are more. The dude that wrote Curious George books is awesome! I love those books! ^^

yes Chris Paolini is quite good, even though i must say that Eragon was much better than Eldest in my opinion. i cant wait for Eragon the movie to come out this summer!

JK Rowling-definately is my fave author =D she's just sooo amazing and GAH i love her. ^.^ hehe besides her I guess I'd have to say...um...I dont know...I'll think about it!

JK is great although Tolkein is amazing writer - not that I have read the books - though my dad has and he filled me in with the missing parts in the lotr films. How he could create such a vast and magnificant world is, well amazing to say the least

for short fiction, i'm into raymond carver and flannery o'connor

other notables are ayn rand, franz kafka, hermann boell and, of course, j.k. rowling

I started reading The Metamorphosis and it looked very interesting, but it wasn't my book and I had to give it back lol. The begining was good, very Kafkaesque Okay, just kidding, I watched The Squid and the Whale too often... but I hope I'll get around to finish it someday ^^

Last time I posted, I forgot to mention Dominique Demers ^^ she's a Quebec author, so she write in french, but her books are very good.

Jonathon Stroud- AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME BOOKS! iif you have not read the Bartimaeus Trilogy (the amulet of samarkand, the golems eye, and the third book that i dont think is out yet) GO BUY THEM! they are hilarious, action-packed, and really makes you think about our world. I actually got angry reading about the injustice that happens to one of the characters in the 2nd book... hey, if you read the books, you'll see what I mean!

All in All, He is a FANTABULOUS, funny writer that really draws you into the book. Even though his books are pretty big (about 400 pages or so), they are easy to read and very good.

I didn't like Eragon. It seemed too much like every other story like it. But Christopher Paolini wasn't a bad writer. Although he kinda stretched things out way more than they needed to be.

My favorite writer isn't very popular. Her name is Jenifer A Ruth. So far she has written the Protector and its sequel, the Guardian. I recommend reading them. The art in her words is simply impossible to describe.

Other than J.k there is only three other names.

1) Meg Cabot! Genuis I love the Princess Diraies and who doesn't love the good old All American Girl?

2)Francine Pascal- Creator of the one and only Sweet Valley series. I love all of them High School and Up! Awesome work there.

3) Tamoria Piecre- one word, AMAZING! I fell in the love with the Immortals Quartet. It was so awesome, i've re-read it alot because I love how she portrays the charters.

I love Tolkein's works, though he is just one of many of my favourite authors

of course J.K is my favourite, but the finalists would have to be Sue Townsed (she wrote the Adrian Mole series), John Green (Looking for Alaska - GREAT BOOK! :D), Jaqueline Wilson, and im starting to become a fan of Tamora Pierce...but only the Song of the Lioness Quartet...

I like Lynne Ewing she wrote the Daughters of the Moon series. And Cate Tiernen, she wrote the Sweep series.

Tamora Pierce is rather good, I've started reading Trickster's Choice for my summer reading book, and its very good! Tamora Pierce has the ability to draw you into the story with her writing :D

Another author I like is Ann Brashares-she wrote the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. And I also like Libba Bray-author of A Great and Terrible Beauty I can't wait for Rebel Angels hehe.

I love them all lol I couldn't say who is my favorite character since they are all so different. Okay, Carmen often get on my nerves cause she can be so mean, but still.. I think the 3rd book is my favorite one ^^ is there gonna be a 4th one? I think there was a rumour of it... there should be since 4 is an important number in those books ^^

Yeah, there's going to be a 4th one, at the end of the 3rd one in an interview she talked about how she was writing it...Grr I can't wait I wanna know because this book is gonna be the one that Bridget has her thing in the beginning of it isn't it?

Probably since.. Carmen was the narrator for the 1st one, then Lena for the 2nd one and Tibby for the 3rd one ^^ So now it's gotta be Bridget lol ^^ I wonder what kind of trouble they will face now... and if she makes Bridget and Eric break up *shakes fist at Ann Brashares* she'd better not lol. Or any other couple for that matter ^^ and I wish Kostos' wife would die so that he could come back to Lena even if he has been stupid and she now likes Paul lol that would be pretty confusing for her ^^

I think Kostos is gonna try and get her back but she's gonna stay with Paul Because I support Paul/Lena more than I support Kostos/Lena-don't ask me why hehe.

I just currently fell in love with Orson Scott Card, who wrote Ender's Game and all of the other Ender books (as well as many other sci-fi works).

I also love Ann Brasheres, Victoria Hanley, Libba Bray, Tamora Pierce, Garth Nix, and so many more.

Well, I like JKR (well duh), Eoin Colfer (Artemis Fowl is going to make a smashing movie), C.S. Lewis (his books are classic), Shel Silverstien (well, it's poetry, but I loved The Giving Tree when I was little), Lemony Snicket, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Jonathon Stroud.
