Polyjuice Potion is a liquid that enables the drinker to turn into the physical form of another person for an hour – providing you add their essence; hair.

The Polyjuice Potion is used solely for human transformation. In the Chamber of Secrets, Hermione put cat hair in hers and the transformation went wrong; leaving her with a furry face, yellow eyes and a tail. Also, the potion is unusable on half giants.

The colour that the potion turns is entirely up the person you are imitating. In the Deathly Hallows, Harry’s is gold. In the Chamber of Secrets, Crabbe and Goyle’s are mud coloured and khaki green.

Uses:
Ron and Harry use it to sneak into the Slytherin common room to find out whether Draco Malfoy is the heir of Slytherin or what he knows about it.

In the Deathly Hallows, Ron, Hermione, Fleur, Fred, George and Mundungus drink the potion so they turn into Harry. This was to throw the Death Eaters off the trail of Harry going to The Burrow before the trace breaks, when Harry turns 17 – an wizard.

It’s also used when Hermione, Ron and Harry use it to enter The Ministry of Magic and turn into Mafalda Hopkirk, Reg Cattermole and Albert Runcorn.

Hermione uses it later in the book to act as Bellatrix Lestrange when they visit her vault in Gringotts as they believe there is a Horcrux there.

4 Leeches
1. oz Antimony
16 Scruples of Fluxweed
Knotgrass
Bicorn Horn
Boomslang Skin
Extract of the person to be – hair
Filings of Salpeter, Mercury and Mars
Pulverised Sal Ammoniac

The Polyjuice Potion takes about a month to brew and prepare. Some of these ingredients are hard to obtain, so Hermione offer to pinch some Boomslang Skin from Snape’s personal stores while Harry sets off a diversion.
