Describe what you see in no less than 100 words, including a picture if possible. This new world, a new life, a new species, a new place to explore. What to call it? A new Earth, hardly original, and it doesn’t look anything like Earth anyway. The dust under my feet, which also covers every surface as far as the eye can see, it’s indigo, there’s and idea, The Indigo World. The names sorted, the flags planted now let’s explore. I wonder what these rocks are made of. Maybe a compound we haven’t made back on Earth. The dust just covers everything but underneath the rocks blue. It’s a lot smaller than Earth then as I’ve walked around the place in two hours. I will come back but first I need more air. What’s that? Something just moved. I’ll go over and have a look. It’s moved back, what’s this little ledge? Arrggghhh!!!link5. Care of Magical Creatures: In no less than one-hundred words, describe the magical creature of your choice. Dragons are magical winged serpents/ reptiles that are able to fly and also have magical abilities. They are depicted in most cultures as fearsome creatures that kill people, but in other places they are worshiped and believed to be gods in disguise. The types and powers they have vary again to which culture of dragons you are looking at, some dragons are said to spit fire, acid, poison and even ice. They are born from eggs, like all reptiles, and the mother must keep the egg warm if it is to survive and hatch. They are scaled at birth but are unable to fly or spit whatever substance particular to their breed until later in their life. 6. Charms: In a battle situation, what charms would you use to help you out? No less than 100 words. In a battle situation I would use the following spells to help me defeat or run from my opponent:Crucio: to give my opponent severe pain, or multiple times to turn them insane with painAccio: To summon a weapon or the others wand, or a broom for a quick getaway.Sectumsempra: I would use this to wound, weaken and possibly, if used many times, to kill my opponentStupefy: to stun my opponent and to also allow for me to catch my breath.Confringo: To confuse my opponent and possibly blow up objects in the area to cover my escape.7. Defence Against the Dark Arts: Imagine you are locked in a one-on-one duel. Give an account of what happened and what spells you used against your opponent. No less than 100 words. ”Foz,” I said, “You have done something very Wrong, haven’t you?” Foz started to stutter, “Accio Foz’s wand!” I yelled. “You have joined the Order and you know it’s my duty as a Deatheater to Punish a Order member, you are to close to me for me to kill but I’ll do the next best thing, SECTUMSEPRA!” Zoe yelled the word over and over again. Amy walked into the room and Zoe stopped shouting and said in a calm voice, “So, are you going to help me give this Order of the Phoenix member, what he really deserves?” she spat. Amy looked at Foz, curled up on the floor with slashes all over his clothes and body and blood trickling all over the laminate floor, “Don’t tell me you pity him? You do, don’t you? Well,” Zoe said not waiting for an answer, “PETRIFICUS TOTALUS. And instead you can watch me inflict the final killing slash to induce FATAL blood loss, Sectumsepra!” She said with a relish and Amy’s eyes began to stream and she looked at Zoe with pure Hatred 8. Divination: Look into your crystal ball and write a short piece predicting your future, with no less than 100 words. I see I need a new man to fill the place in my heart that has been empty for too long and Mister Right is right under my nose. I’ve just got to recognise him and he’s not who I think it is. I know I need to change but when I try, my world collapses around my ears. Once I have that the one special guy and all my ambitions, no matter how tall, will all help you to become my dream self. That little bit of excess weight will drop off and my confidence will have that vital boost to become the true me. 9. Flying Lessons: Choose two Quidditch positions and describe in detail their roles in a game, and how they should play. Keeper: It is a keeper’s job to guard the goal hoops which are suspended at either end of the Quidditch pitch. The Chasers on the opposing team will try to score through the hoops being guarded, using a scarlet football sized ball called the Quaffle. If this attempt is successful 10 points will be added to that team’s total. The keeper must try and protect and cover all three hoops at any one time and never leave the hoops.Seeker: The seeker has one primary objective; to catch the walnut sized, flying ball called the Snitch. Once this is caught the game ends, the team who’s Seeker caught the Snitch gain 250 points and normally win. The seeker has to be a quick flyer, and have a quick eye and broom as the Snitch is very quick and slight, making it easy to miss. 10. Herbology: Research into the magical properties of a wood used for wands. Try to be as detailed as possible. A feminine tree of death and rebirth, Willow teaches us to take control of our destiny. It is strongly associated with water, the Underworld, poetry and Witches and it strengthens intuition and gives inspiration. It also strengthens the third eye and can be used as a tool in divination.

| 11. History of Magic: Write a short history of your House founder (Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw or Salazar Slytherin). If little is known about them, don't be afraid to be creative! No less than 100 words. Rowena is known and recognised for her wit, cleverness and creativity. She is told to be from the “glen”, mentioned by the Sorting Hat, which implies her to be from Scotland or Wales. She had a strong relationship, it is said, with Helga Hufflepuff, another founder of Hogwarts, and this is on a strong contrast to the almost hatred shared by Godric and Salazar, the other founders. Ravenclaw only allowed those with wit, and cleverness into her house, not mentioning about being pure-blooded. She had a diadem, which was lost in later years, which allowed its wearer a greater mind, and Rowena also tries to teach those in her house, so instead of using a password to gain entrance to the dorms the bronze eagle asks the entrant a riddle. If the entrant gets the riddle wrong they are not allowed in, meaning they have to wait till another of their house come and let them in.When Rowena was dying she asked for The Bloody Baron to fetch for her daughter Helena, so her mother could see her once more before she died. Helena refused and so in a fit of rage, the Baron killed her. His guilt overwhelmed him and he took his life to stop the guilt he brought on himself.12. Muggle Studies: Choose one aspect of the wizarding world (eg. flying, conjuring items, apparition etc.) and explain a Muggle equivalent.Flying/ An Aeroplane. Wizards use brooms and for small period carpets, to allow for a family to all fly un-separated, but were dismissed as they were attracting attention from Muggles. Cars and other objects can be enchanted to be allowed to fly like Mr Weasley’s Ford Angila. An Aeroplane can also fly but it is suspended by jet engines and slipstreams to keep it in the air. 13. Potions: Choose one known potion from the wizarding world and give as much information as possible on it. Try to include any known ingredients, brewing instructions, effects and possible side-effects. The Draught of Living Death is an extremely powerful sleeping potion. It sends a victim into a deep trance that mimics the state of death. Ingredients needed are Wormwood, Asphodel, Sopophorous Bean and Valerian Roots. The potion should resemble a smooth, black currant-colored liquid at the halfway stage; it should then turn a light shade of lilac, and then clear as water, after you stir the potion counterclockwise seven times. However, stirring the potion counterclockwise seven times and clockwise once, as directed by the Half-Blood Prince, had apparently the same effect14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies: Imagine you have had a paranormal experience. Describe what happened as fully as possible. Last year I was doing a modern take on a Shakespeare play, part of Richard III, and half way through the rehearsals I was heading down to London with my Mum, Dad, my friend AG and her mum and dad, Jayne and Paul. They’ve been down loads of times but never been to the tower, and because of me doing the Shakespeare thing we all had to go. So we went and at one point we were going to the toilets and for once the Mums weren’t coming as well. So I was standing in the ladies, holding AG’s door closed, only she could choose the one without a lock, and two boys appeared, floating on mid-air, and then an older man came from out the sinks, tugging a chest behind him. AG at that point opened the door and we both looked in awe as the older ghost took a pillow and started to smother the younger brother. The older brother tried to pull off the man who was killing his brother, but as his brother went limp, the killer turned and produced a knife from his belt and drove it through both the boys’ hearts. I realised who they all were as I was acting they younger brother myself later in the month. The murderer stuffed the bodies into the chest and started off towards the door. AG and I turned to look at each other and with a little nod both turned and fled the toilets. Later when we were about to leave, the Mum’s needed the loo and when they set off towards the ones AG and I had used earlier, we ran after them and got them talking and lead them to the other toilets, so they couldn’t encounter what we had. 15. Transfiguration: Write a short paragraph on how Transfiguration is of use to witches and wizards in a wartime situation.Transfiguration can be used in a wartime situation to make it easier to hide and also to attack. You can turn into a small object and hide, or choose something large to animate and attack. Or you can turn the opponent into a harmless animal Sources:WikipediaThe Sorcerer's Companion Arithmancy CalculatorDragon Oak Wands | |

Arithmancy: Using your site username, work out your Character Number, Heart Number and Social Number.PicklesCharacter Number: 3Heart Number : 5Social Number: 7 3. Art, Drama and Creative Writing: Using your site username, create a play on words, for example:
P is for perfect2. I is for incredible3. C is for clever4. K is for knowing5. L is for light footed6. E is for exciting 7. S is for surprising 4. Astronomy:I looked out the window of my space ship and gasped, I knew i was where no man had been before but I didn’t expect to find a new planet, somewhere that might hold life. The planet was different shades of blue and had a vertical red ring around it. I decided to name this planet Truho, it was a funny name but so was every other planets name when you think about. I decided to land on the planet because I wanted to see if there was any form of life on it, after-all that was my mission. I landed on the planet and took a deep breath my oxygen was working that gave me time to explore; at first there didn’t seem to e any source of life anywhere on my planet but it did have an outline of what looked like a river once flowed down its dusty path. I searched and hours went by, there was no oxygen behind the sun and I needed oxygen to get back to earth so stopped my search and loaded back onto the ship.. Just as I was flying away I caught a glimpse of something pink moving about... (200) link 5. Care of Magical Creatures: In no less than one-hundred words, describe the magical creature of your choice. The male unicorn and the female unicorn are very different. Males are usually a brighter shade of white than the females. The female unicorns tend to like women and girls better than men and boys, if a man were to approach a unicorn the unicorn would probably attack. A unicorn is very strong whether male or female if you provoke them then your likely to get pretty beaten up, a unicorn is like a horse first it will throw it’s legs up in the air and warn you to back off then if the unicorn still thinks you are a danger to them or their foals then they will attack by stamping on you. Foals are easier to make friends with, the foal doesn’t see the need to have to protect itself or the other unicorns around him/her, a male and a foal would get bon perfectly well.(148)
Charms: In a battle situation, what charms would you use to help you out? No less than 100 words If I had to protect myself in a battle situation then I would use these spells:Protego: I would use this because it forms a barrier around you and is very hard to penetrate.Expelliamus : this deflects the spell that is being shot towards you.Stupify: this spell stuns the receiver, it’s a common stunning spell, and is a fairly easy spell to perform.Crucio: this spell tortures the receiver, useful for trying to get someone to tell you something.Imperio: This spell gives you complete control over the receiver. Avada kedavra: the killing spell, this spell kills the opponent instantly.(102) 7. Defence Against the Dark Arts: I circled the room, watching my opponent carefully, waiting for any sudden movements to come from his hand. I circled waiting for him to step up first and take his bow, but i had a feeling that he was waiting for me to bow first as well. After a while I decided to take the first bow as my opponent obviously wasn’t, i walked up and bowed my eyes still focused on him, soon the opponent walked forward and bowed, he didn’t take his eyes off me either. We both stepped back five footsteps and put our wands up to our faces.“Ready?” I asked him“As I’ll ever be” he replied.Together our wands flicked, silently I had cast PROTEGO to protect myself and then I yelled “STUPIFY!” The charm hit the boy on the chest and he fell over, as the boy recovered i circled the room this was to my advantage because when he regained conciseness he wouldn’t know where I was. As the boy stumbled to get up I silently cast PROTEGO around myself, he wouldn’t be able to penetrate it with an ordinary spell. The boys wand flicked and he yelled “CRUCIO”, when he yelled that I knew I was in trouble so I quickly yelled “EXPELLIAMUS!” which sent the unforgivable curse back in his path. “IMPERIO” he yelled after the torture spell had worn off, he pointed his wand at a drawer and made me go over to it and pull out a knife, I had the knife at my chest ready to stab myself when the voice in my head told me to stop. After a while I dropped the knife and fell to the floor, quickly I grabbed my wand an hastily stood up and yelled “Avada Kedavra!” at the same time he did. At the end of it all, the two boys were lying on the floor with blood trickling out of their wounds..........(323) 8. Divination: Look into your crystal ball and write a short piece predicting your future, with no less than 100 words. In the future I may difficulties for myself, but I think I see a silver lining somewhere, but it’s hard to see..... I see myself running across a Moore with the sunset behind me, but there’s something dark about it but I can’t put my finger on it. There’s a woman with a baby behind me running, what does this mean? I see a generation of people running behind me this must mean that my family name will be descended only from me. Money and careers are a big no-go for me, the road will be tough but I will get through it, the family line I carry tells me so. (111) 8. Flying Lessons: Seeker:The seekers job is to catch a little golden ball called the snitch. The snitch darts about the pitch and the seeker has to catch it for the game to end. The first team’s seeker to catch the snitch wins 100 points + ends the game. Keeper:The keepers’ job is to defend the three goalposts. The keeper has to stop the Quaffle (big red ball) from going through any of the three posts. If the keeper successfully catches the quaffle before it goes through one of the goalposts then they can throw it out to one of their team-mates to give them a chance of scoring in the opponents goalposts. (112)
10. Herbology: Research into the magical properties of a wood used for wands. Try to be as detailed as possible. Courage, spiritually involved and leadership are only three of the magical properties of a wand. The wood in a wand holds most of the power not the filling (e.g. unicorn hair.) The wood of the wand holds the strength and the personality the filling holds only the magic.EXPLAINATION: It’s a bit like lighting a fire, the lighter fluid might light the fire but you want the fire to last so it’s the firewood that is the most important.(79)
11. History of Magic: Write a short history of your House founder (Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw or Salazar Slytherin). If little is known about them, don't be afraid to be creative! No less than 100 words. Helga Hufflepuff was born in the Vally board thousands of years ago. Her mother taught her magic in secret, anyone found practising witchcraft was burnt to death in those days. Helga always dreamed of going to a magical school, like the muggle children her age did only for Witches and wizards. Helga was a loyal girl growing up, she never fell out with her mother or Father, she was always there for her friends when they needed her. When it was time to move on Helga decided to move to Scotland where she meet one of the other founders of Hogwarts Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga and Rowena got on very well, Rowena was the brains of the bunch and Helga was the glue that kept them together... Soon after the two meet they went to find new species of animals and plants because Helga was very interested in plants and Rowena needed to stock up on magical herbs... When the pair had reached they’re destination they meet two young magical men arguing on the street, the two women calmed them down and got them talking to each other, soon the four people where best of friends...Although the four all had their own dreams they thought that Helga’s idea of a magical school was brilliant, and so they all set up Hogwarts! Helga taught Herbology at Hogwarts until her death. The rest f Helga’s life has been lost in History.... (239) 12. Muggle Studies: Choose one aspect of the wizarding world (eg. flying, conjuring items, apparition etc.) and explain a Muggle equivalent.Flying- In the muggle world people cannot fly about on a broom because they lack in the magical power, so instead muggles use things like aeroplanes, cars and boats..Aeroplanes-Aeroplanes are used for flying through the air. They are very like a broom on some ways but they carry hundreds of people in one time and you have to steer with a movable wheel called a steering wheel also an aeroplane is run via a motor which is a very complicated machinery that gives the energy for the aeroplane to fly..Car-A car is a moving piece of equipment that carries a maximum of five people; it has two wheels that move across the ground. The energy to make the wheels go around comes from liquid called petrol which is highly flammable when ignited. A car is also run via a motor that transforms the petrol into an energy form.Boat- A boat is a transporter that carries thousands of people. A boat sails on water and is also run by petrol and different gases. A boat is used to carry passengers over large distances of water.
13. Potions: Choose one known potion from the wizarding world and give as much information as possible on it. Try to include any known ingredients, brewing instructions, effects and possible side-effects. Polyjuice potion:Polyjuice potion is used for a person to turn into another for one hour. The potion works in such a way that only the potion + a hair can turn you into the person the hair belonged to(this can be anything, toenail a piece of dry skin). The effects are, your hair colour, weight and height all change, your voice however sound the same so work needs to be done to make sure people don’t recognise who you are. If you accidently take the hair of an animal then you will need to get medical help at once, side effects of turning into an animal are, barking at strangers, and coughing up fur balls. (114) 14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies: Imagine you have had a paranormal experience. Describe what happened as fully as possible.I was walking along the dark corridor that night when I heard a strange noise coming from one of the rooms, at first I was afraid but then decided to go and check and make sure it wasn’t just an open window slamming. So I entered the room, it felt cold almost frosty. I looked over to where the window was and saw a pale figure standing beside, it the figure moved toward me and brought out her hands and motioned for me to do the same. I held out my hands for her, I felt taken by her spell. Then the door rapped, it was my friend, I looked over to the door and back to where the figure once stood before me, she was there no more. (129) 15. Transfiguration: Write a short paragraph on how Transfiguration is of use to witches and wizards in a wartime situation. Transfiguration is good for magical people in wartime situations because, if the opponent is immune to stunning and controlling spells then you can transfigure the person into a weaker form of life. Even if your opponent is too strong for you then you can transfigure it into something that’s not magical and can’t fight back, that way you can kill person while it’s defenceless. (64)

Astronomy: Imagine you are an astronomer, and you have just discovered and landed on a new planet. Describe what you see in no less than 100 words, including a picture if possible. After waking up from an extended stint in cryostasis I awoke on a planet that was completely different from my own. As a space explorer, waking up on a different planet wasn’t anything new, but this planet is by far the strangest place I’ve seen in my lifetime. At first glance, its entire atmosphere seemed to be made out of red and orange gas. Upon further experimentation I’ve come to find that below the gassy atmosphere lies a hard surface made up of a rock that has a lot of the qualities of lead. I’ve done many experiments while here; I haven’t found any sign of water on this planet. Through my findings I have concluded that no life could be sustained here, at least not any life form that we today know exists. After 200 days of collecting data I am now preparing to re-enter cryostasis from for my returning trip home. 5. Care of Magical Creatures: In no less than one-hundred words, describe the magical creature of your choice.A basilisks is a monstrous serpentine creature that can only be controlled by Parselmouths. Spiders flee from basilisks as they are mortal enemies. It is said that the crow of a rooster is lethal to a basilisk. A basilisk kills with it's powerful venom as well as it's stare. The basilisk stare is immediately lethal to anyone who looks it directly in the eyes, if looked at indirectly (ie: through a camera) the victim will be instantly petrified. The only known cure for petrification caused by the basilisk is a stew made of mature mandrakes. The only known cure for the basilisks venom is phoenix tears. Basilisks are known to reach up to 50 feet in length and to live for hundreds of years. Spiders flee from basilisks as they are mortal enemies, the only known fear of a basilisk is a rooster. It is said that the crow of a rooster is lethal to a basilisk. 6. Charms: In a battle situation, what charms would you use to help you out? No less than 100 words.Expelliarmus: Disarming my opponent would be of great use, especially in a battle situation. Also if the spell is cast with enough power it can also cause your opponent to go flying a few feet away while disarming them. Finite: This spell cancels out the effects of another spell. This would come in handy if someone hexed or jinxed me/one of my friends while battling. Incarcerous: This spell would come in quiet useful in a battle situation, I could tie up multiple opponent or just disable one long enough to gather my wits and plan out my next move. This would also be very useful after casting expelliarmus to tie up my opponent stopping them from being able to retrieve their wand. Petrificus Totalis: This spell causes the person to freeze completely. this would come in useful if you were in a tight spot and needed to make a quick get away. 7. Defense Against the Dark Arts: Imagine you are locked in a one-on-one duel. Give an account of what happened and what spells you used against your opponent. No less than 100 words.Running down the battle field I stopped to take a good look around, when I did I noticed one of my friends stunned obviously stupified, " Ennervate" I whispered waking them from their current state. Behind me I suddenly heard a twig snap, "Isn't this so sweet, you risking your own life to save your pitiful friends. Haven't you learned yet that the only way to live is by self preservation." I knew within an instant who's voice that was, my long time enemy. Turing quickly on my heels I faced her with my wand pointed directly at her throat. "I know much more about self preservation than you think my dear, would you like to find out?" I replied just barely above a whisper. She gave me a slight smirk and then nodded her head yes, but before I could even get a spell of she shouted " Tarantallegra!!" I knew the effects of this spell all to well, as it was her favorite ones to use, " Finite Incantatum." I whispered but continued to dance hoping she was enjoying herself far to much to notice that I wasn't charmed any more. Once I knew she was in a good fit of laughter I stopped on a dime and shouted, "Stupefy!!" She didn't even get a chance to react before the spell hit her and she hit the ground. Smiling slightly I walked briskly up to her, with a smile plastered from ear to ear, "See my dear I do know a few tricks myself, maybe next time you'll remember to make sure your opponent is still under your charm before you let yourself be distracted. Actually I don't think you should remember this at all." I leaned in towards her with my wand pointed directly at her temple, " Obliviate" I said in nothing more than a whisper. Once I was back on my feet and sure she wouldn't be back to bother me for some time I headed back to my friend to look for more of our allies scattered through out the field. 8. Divination: Look into your crystal ball and write a short piece predicting your future, with no less than 100 words. As I sat down in front of the crystal ball I couldn't help but cringe a little to myself. It's not that I'm horrible at divination, it's just that crystal balls and me have never really seemed to get along. But never the less I knew that I at least needed to try. Thus I slunched down in my seat and placed my head on the desk so that now the only thing in my vision was the crystal ball. As I sat there focusing, and focusing pretty hard I might add, something started to come to shape inside of the ball. Holding my excitement inside I continued to focus and watch as all sorts of things began to unravel themselves. In the future I was going to meet a whole slue of new friends and tons of interesting people, by the end of a year I will have made new friends that are all over the world. Then it also showed me finally buckling down and getting myself back into school during the fall semester. Then not even in a second the picture switched to me walking around some strange place, and I seemed to be headed somewhere. At this point the vision was still much to blurry to tell exactly where I'm heading, oh wait I'm talking to a man and now I'm being escorted through a set of doors and lead to a seat. Looking around I notice that this looks a lot like a stadium or maybe a theater, and then looking about I noticed that I wasn't the only person there, it seems that I was surrounded by thousands of screaming girls. This vision is getting stranger and stranger by the second, but then something happened that clicked everything into place. The curtain opened and there directly in front of her was McFly. Out of pure joy if nothing else I squeed out loud and then jumped so fast I sent the whole table flying. Did I forget to mention that I wasn't horrible at actually seeing visions, I just got a little to excited about them and usually some how sent the crystal ball hurdling across the room. Laughing slightly I picked up the table and managed to find the crystal ball and make my way out of the class room before the professor had a complete break down. 9. Flying Lessons: Choose two Quidditch positions and describe in detail their roles in a game, and how they should play.Chaser: The chasers score goals on the opposing teams goals using the quaffle. There are three chasers for each team. Each chaser should play both offensively and defensively. The chasers should also work together with each other to score goals and psych out the opposing team. They should also be very skilled at making quick maneuvers in order to avoid ample obstacles, including but not limited to, bludgers, opposing team members, sudden changes in wind movement. Keeper: The keepers job is to protect the goals at all costs. There is only one keeper per team, it is there job to keep the quaffle out of the goals. The are usually playing on the defense during the game. They must also have a keep eye and be able to keep an eye on the quaffle at all times. They must be very quick and flexable. 10. Herbology: Research into the magical properties of a wood used for wands. Try to be as detailed as possible.I chose the wood from the birch tree, the birch tree is associated (according to Celtic lunar calendar) with people born between December 24th and January 20th. The birch tree is associated with the cycle of birth and rebirth and also with purity. This wood is also a very fire-oriented wood, the energy is very cleansing and purifying. It is best used by a witch or wizard who is very restrained as it can help them be more impulsive and less grounded. However as a wand this is not recommended for unrestrained individuals as it will make them act out, and be even less restrained. (Continued in next post)

| 11. History of Magic: Write a short history of your House founder (Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw or Salazar Slytherin). If little is known about them, don't be afraid to be creative! No less than 100 words.Salazar Slytherin was also known as the shrewd Slytherin from fen. He along with Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff and Rowena Ravenclaw founded Hogwarts school of witch craft and wizardry. Due to the prejudices from muggles, he wished for the school to be more exclusive about the students accepted. The other founders did not agree with his view point, so this started a feud between the four founders, eventually causing Salazar to leave. But before he departed he left behind the chamber of secrets. It is said that within the chamber lies a horrible beast that only the heir of Salazar Slytherin himself would be able to control. Salazar was also one of the first recorded Parselmouths. 12. Muggle Studies: Choose one aspect of the wizarding world (eg. flying, conjuring items, apparition etc.) and explain a Muggle equivalent. In the wizarding world we use brooms as a mode of transportation, flying to get from one destination to the other. Muggles have a similar means of travel called an airplane. An air plane can transport hundreds of muggles at a time, flying from one specified location to another. Just as a wizard or witch would jump on their broom to fly to see a friend, relative, or just merely to take a vacation, muggles do the same with an airplane. However plans do seem to have some comforts that a broom does seem to be lacking, like a bath room and a cushioned seat. At the same time planes also have a small tendency to crash, and we wizards don't seem to have as many issues in that aspect. 13. Potions: Choose one known potion from the wizarding world and give as much information as possible on it. Try to include any known ingredients, brewing instructions, effects and possible side-effects.Shrinking Solution Known ingredients: chopped daisy roots, skinned shrivelfig, sliced cater pillar, one rat spleen, and a dash of leech juice. Known brewing instructions: Adding too much rat spleens or leech juice can cause the potion to turn bright orange instead of the green it's supposed to be. Also making errors can cause this potion to turn poisonous. If the potion is brewed properly the desired effect should be shrinking, or if used on a living creature, a toad for instance, it would transform the toad back into a tadpole. So it could also be classified as an aging potion as well. 14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies: Imagine you have had a paranormal experience. Describe what happened as fully as possible.I awoke suddenly in the middle night, I had been having the worst dream. Now that I was awake it seemed to have left my mind completely. Still have sleeping I made my way to the kitchen to get a glass of water when I noticed a person sitting in the rocking chair in my living room. At first I payed no mind to it, I just figured my still half sleeping mind plus the darkness must be playing tricks on me. Once I was done with my glass of water I placed my cup into the sink and then started to make my way back to my bedroom, that's when I noticed that the form sitting in the rocking chair was not a figment of my imagination, but something very real and very much there. Stopping dead in my tracks I mentally argued with myself as to weather or not I should speak to this ghost. Sure I encountered ghost all the time at school, the bloody barron was always wandering in and out of the Slytherin common room after all. But this was my first experience with a ghost being inside of my own house. Besides, not all ghosts are as well mannered as the ones at hogwarts, so for all I know this one could be a stark raving lunatic. After giving them another sideways glance I decided to speak up, "So um, what exactly are you doing here? I don't mind or anything, I just didn't know my living rooms was a happening spot for ghosts to hang out." At first the ghost didn't move or even respond, but then in a dark and very dreary tone replied, "I was sent here to protect you, the bloody barron gave me the order. Don't worry I'm about as enthused as you are about the prospect." Baffled I walked over and took the seat across from him and replied, "Protect me? From what? How come I didn't know anything about this?" The ghost just rolled his eyes and replied, "I wasn't told what I was supposed to protect you from, or even what from, just that I needed to keep you safe no matter what. You weren't even supposed to know I was here, but I've grown bored keeping myself transparent." Standing up and making my way back to my bedroom I scoffed back at him, "Whatever, you can bet the barron and I will be having a very long discussion about this when I return to school next week. In the mean time just stay visible so I don't end up sitting on you at some point, please and thank you." As I spoke I made my way to my room and finished by slamming the door and returning to my bed to resume what I hoped would be a dreamless sleep. 15. Transfiguration: Write a short paragraph on how Transfiguration is of use to witches and wizards in a wartime situation.Transfiguration is useful during a war time situation because you can transform the very thing your opponent is looking for into something they would never give a second glance to. Thus it gives you the ability to fight and worry a little less about the enemy getting a hold of the artifact. You could also transfer their wand into something fun like a mouse - or maybe even a tea kettle. Something that is absolutely useless to them in a battle like situation. 4. Astronomy: Imagine you are an astronomer, and you have just discovered and landed on a new planet. Describe what you see in no less than 100 words, including a picture if possible.
Alice stepped out onto the strange planet. A cool, milky gas surrounded her, limiting her visibility. This planet was cold and hard, yet it glittered in a strange sort of way. It was beautiful. Truly beautiful. Magical beyond anything that can be accomplished with a wand. The temperature on the planet was cold, too cold. It was like nothing Alice had ever seen before. She looked out into the endless sky, alight with stars and the moons. Suddenly, a shooting star darted across the magnificent sky, adding to the splendour. Alice was awed into amazement at the beautiful planet, she looked back wistfully as she boarded her spacecraft, hoping she would be able to find it again.
5. Care of Magical Creatures: In no less than one-hundred words, describe the magical creature of your choice.
Trolls
Trolls are creatures feared by many. Trolls are extraordinarily strong and even stupider, and are often violent and unpredictable. Trolls are up to 12 feet tall and can weigh over a tonne. Trolls originally came from Scandinavia but are now found all over the world. Trolls cannot talk but communicate in grunts that appear to have some form of meaning. Some trolls have been taught a few human words but this classifies them far from intelligent. The mountain troll, the forest troll and the river troll are the three different types of troll species. T he mountain troll is the biggest, the forest troll is pale green and the river troll is hairy and has horns.
6. Charms: In a battle situation, what charms would you use to help you out? No less than 100 words.
Alice hastily made her way down the alley way when all of a sudden, the enemy surrounded her. ‘Damn it!’ she thought, why was she so careless, walking around at night alone! “Protego”, Alice cried instinctively as she tried to apperate away but realised that they had cast a spell to make it impossible. “Petrificus Totalus” Alice tried to catch one of her attackers off guard but he was helped by one of his fellows. This was no even fight! Suddenly, many members of the Order appeared and showered spells and curses down on the attackers who were taken completely by surprise. They quickly undid what ever prevented apperation and were gone.
7. Defence Against the Dark Arts: Imagine you are locked in a one-on-one duel. Give an account of what happened and what spells you used against your opponent. No less than 100 words.
Alice walked cautiously into the courtyard. The sluggish gusts of wind blowing around the scattered autumn leaves gave it a slightly abandoned feel. Suddenly, there was a loud crack from behind her. Alice gracefully spun around, drawing her wand in a fluid, elegant movement. It was him. He smiled, and after a second, there eyes met. Her liquid topaz pair found the gleaming red pair and somehow, at the exact same moment, the knew it was time. “Furnunculus”, he cried out into the empty night. But she was ready. “Protego,” Alice whispered, so gently it was almost a song, “Petrificus Totalus”. He blocked her spell and fired more in return, but Alice continued to prevent his curses from hitting her, not attacking, but defending. He continued to attack, only to be blocked but he was not worried. ‘She was not attacking because she knew she could not attack and defend at the same time’, he told himself. All of a sudden, a smile played around the edges of her lips and with no further warning she attacked, and hit,” Stupefy”
8. Divination: Look into your crystal ball and write a short piece predicting your future, with no less than 100 words.
Alice gazed dreamily into the crystal ball, not expecting to see anything in particular when all of a sudden, something in the mist moved! Alice peered in closer and saw too her horror herself, locked in combat with what appeared to be a very talented, very Dark wizard! She watched helplessly as the Dark wizard shot more and more curses at her, she was clearly loosing but yet seemed strangely confident. The Dark wizard shot a stunning spell that Alice thought missed her but to her horror, she saw herself fall to the floor. The Dark wizard let his wand drop to his side, victorious, but the split second he had let his guard down Alice, who had been faking, shot a body binding curse at him which hit directly between the eyes. Alice smiled, knowing why she had seemed confident.
9. Flying Lessons: Choose two Quidditch positions and describe in detail their roles in a game, and how they should play.
Beaters role in a game of Quidditch is to deflect bludgers sent at their team and hit them towards the other team. The advantage of having a good pair of beaters on your team means that you would be relatively safer and they can hopefully knock the opposition off their broom, preventing those players from continuing playing.
Chasers are the people on the team that score. There are three on each team and their objective is to pass the red quaffle between themselves and put it through one of the three golden hoops, being defended by the keeper. Each time they score they earn 10 points for their team.
10. Herbology: Research into the magical properties of a wood used for wands. Try to be as detailed as possible.
• Holly- The Holly tree is a well-formed and very handsome specimen that can also serve as a hedge or barrier. Another nice attribute is its adaptability. Wands made of Holly show similar attributes. Most are handsome and can be adapted to perform all magic the owner is capable of. • Ash- The Ash tree resists heat, grows rapidly and is adaptable to a wide range of soil and climate conditions. It is famous for one of its basic wood products, the baseball bat. No other wood has the pliant, strong, yet light qualities of Ash wood. Wands made of Ash are powerful, tough and light. • Willow- Willow Oak trees are considered some of the most beautiful trees planted in Washington, D. C., a city known for its wonderful tree planting. Willow wood is told to have quite inspiration and deep understanding, making the bond between willow wands and their owners almost unbreakable. • Maple- Maple is the most spiritual woods in continuation. Because of this, the key use of the wood is that of divine healing. Maple is said to be the wood of the traveller. • Walnut- Prized for its attractive hardwood, the walnut tree has valuable dark brown wood which is strong with a handsome grain that polishes easily and gleams forever. Walnut wands are comparable, beautiful yet purposeful. • Mahogany- Mahogany is said to have great integrity and capability to produce a very dark, warm tone • Birch- The Birch offers year-round beauty, with its smooth white bark. It has hard, close-grained wood that does not splinter easily. Wands made of birch are comparable as they are solid and not easily broken. They are also stunning. • Yew- Yew wood is often famous for its long life, providing the owner a wood that can last them their existence if the suitable care is given. It is also acknowledged to represent death, giving it a dark nature that possibly will catch the attention of a magical user with evil intent to be interested in the wood. But to counter the darker side of its property, it can also symbolize resurrection, life.
(I sort of did all of them before I realised that you only had to do one… HOPE THAT’S OKAY)
11. History of Magic: Write a short history of your House founder (Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw or Salazar Slytherin). If little is known about them, don't be afraid to be creative! No less than 100 words.
Rowena Ravenclaw. Rowena was a beautiful, yet slightly intimidating witch who was said to be constantly wearing a quizzical half-smile. She was the creator of the diadem which was told to give the gift of intelligence to anyone who would wear it. She gave birth to one daughter, who disappeared shortly before her mother’s death. Rumours that her daughter stole the diadem remain unconfirmed. Her daughter’s body was found in an Albanian forest and her ghost roams the school of Hogwarts. Rowena Ravenclaw was famed for her intelligence and critical view of things. Wit beyond measure is a man’s greatest treasure.
12. Muggle Studies: Choose one aspect of the wizarding world (e.g. flying, conjuring items, apparition etc.) and explain a Muggle equivalent.
Muggles are peculiar beings of existence. They have found many ways to live without magic and one of the simplest ones is the replacement for the charm Aguamenti. Muggles use pipes (metal cylindrical objects) to send water to taps. The water is stored in a dam and when the muggles turn the tap, the pipes open, letting the water flow.
13. Potions: Choose one known potion from the wizarding world and give as much information as possible on it. Try to include any known ingredients, brewing instructions, effects and possible side-effects.
Felix Felicis
Felix Felicis is a molten gold potion that makes you lucky. Once taken, all of your endeavours are successful until it wears off. If taken in excess it can cause giddiness, recklessness and over confidence. This potion will tweak the circumstances so you will be successful in everything you succeed. It is a banned substance in organised competitions. It is desperately tricky to make and disastrous to get wrong.
14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies: Imagine you have had a paranormal experience. Describe what happened as fully as possible.
Alice sat down into an armchair in the candle lit common room. ‘Despite the candles, it was becoming quite dark,’ Alice thought vaguely as she began to drift off to sleep. Alice began to dream she was in a murky green forest, standing on the path when she noticed that there was someone else standing on the path a little ahead of her, to far to clearly make out their features. Alice suddenly felt anxious, whoever that was, they were not meant to be there. Warily, Alice approached the figure and felt a strong sense of love, as if she had met this person before, without really meeting them. It turned out to be an old woman, who Alice recognised. It was her grandmother, who had died when Alice was only three years old. They sat down on a collapsed tree and began to talk. So many answers! After what seemed like no time at all, Alice’s grandmother left, and Alice woke up, reflecting on her Séance.
15. Transfiguration: Write a short paragraph on how Transfiguration is of use to witches and wizards in a wartime situation.
Transfiguration can be extremely useful to witches and wizards, especially during wartime. They can transfigure any object around them into something they can use as a weapon. This way, if you have a wand, you can get anything you need by simply transfiguring something else into it.

Skie sat outside, the cool grass tickling her feet as she sighed and stared at the stars through her telescope. Suddenly, Skie peered into her telescope more intently, she had noticed a round planet like thing that she knew she had never noticed before. Jotting down a few notes into her star journal, Skie kept her telescope trained on the planet and hung a ‘do not touch under pain of death’ sign from it’s metal frame. Running as quickly as she could to the library, Skie pulled out a trusty book from the shelves, ‘A Complete List of the Planets and Where They Are Found’. Skie flipped through the pages hungrily, looking for what she was already coming to know as her planet. Finally, Skie was sure that she had found and discovered a new planet in the sky. “Sweet!” Skie yelled, not caring who heard her. A few months later, it was finally official. Skie had actually discovered a new planet. After all the arrangements had been made, the day arrived when Skie would actually get to stand and walk on her new planet, christened Hoshi. Skie felt the Amazon sized butterflies fluttering around in her stomach as she prepared to put her feet on her new planet. After performing a simple bubble- head charm to hold oxygen in and keep the vacuum of space from sucking her in, Skie felt the sensation of being lifted and quickly closed her eyes. When she finally opened them, Skie was standing on a barren wasteland of vast canyons, and deadly drop- offs. “Oh my jumping broomsticks!” Skie screamed at the top of her lungs, wondering if there was any life on this seemingly desolate planet. Hearing nothing, Skie grabbed the broomstick that had been permitted on this trip and began to explore this new world…
5. Care of Magical Creatures: In no less than one hundred words, describe the magical creature of your choice.
Thestrals are dragon- like winged horses that are often seen as omens of death. Ironically, actually, the only way you can see thestrals are if you have seen and accepted a death. This fact alone would have been enough to put most wizards off, but thestrals are steeped in even more mystery and magic. Thestrals are, as I said earlier, dragon- like winged horses, but some of the defining characteristics of thestrals are their startling blank, dead, white eyes, their huge leathery wings, their long, angular dragon- like faces, and their flowing, long manes. Thestrals’ scary appearance attributes to the fact that the Ministry of Magic considers thestrals dangerous creatures, whereas Hagrid insists that they are ‘dead useful’. Thestrals have long, needle like fangs, and a very keen keen sense of smell that are used to sense and rip apart carcasses and carrion. Thestrals also have a particular liking of fresh blood, although they are unlikely to attack any human sized target. Thestrals seem to be very good service animals in the way that they pull the Hogwarts carriages. Thestrals also are capable of fast flight with their powerful wings, if you are riding it is very uncomfortable, but they prefer to be on the ground.
6. Charms: In a battle situation, what charms would you use to help you out? No less than 100 words.
Someone screamed ear shatteringly in the distance behind me. Spinning on my heel and feeling a sharp adrenaline rush, I saw my brother, Jake, on the ground, stunned, with his eyes frozen and staring up at the sky. “Oh Merlin,” I muttered as Jake’s attacker turned towards me, what he or she obviously thought would be her next target. As I identified her attacker, I smiled wryly. Of course it would have to be… “Hello Bellatrix! How nice to see you.” I bared my teeth menacingly, glad that I was facing this particular Death Eater in this skirmish. Bella had a lot to atone for. “Oh, little Schuyler, how are you? Angry that I stunned your dear brother? Too bad! And now you’ll fall to my wand, just as your brother did, and if the Dark Lord permits, you’ll both die here.” Bellatrix snarled the words, but I just kept that terrible smile on my face and glared. “CRUCIO!” Bellatrix yelled as she pointed her wand at me. “We’ll see aunt Bella, we’ll see.” I spoke as I rolled out of the way, easily, from the wrath of Bella’s crucio. My trained muscles and instincts from dodging bludgers in quidditch would always be helpful when in a battle situation. I felt my lips searching for Avada Kedavra, but refused to give Bellatrix the satisfaction of knowing that I had uttered an unforgivable curse. As my lips found the curse that I wanted to use, I annunciated clearly and spoke, “Confringo!” Aiming straight at Bellatrix, the curse sped along, but Bella ducked at the last second and the curse hit the ground right next to her. I smirked as a huge explosion sent my dear aunt Bellatrix flying and facedown in the dirt. “Auntie, why are you laying down when I’m not even finished with you yet? Are your reflexes not as good as they once were?” I smiled, as Bella just groaned and struggled to get up. “Expulso!” My target had been a huge rock on Bellatrix’s left, and I watched with satisfaction as the rock shattered into a thousand pieces, further forcing my aunt to lay on the ground, helpless. “Stupify!” I yelled as my final charm, but unfortunately, Bellatrix had gotten to her feet, her expression wild and crazed. Cackling, Bellatrix disapparated, probably back to her master’s side. “Merlin’s pants,” I muttered as I walked over to Jake. 7. Defense Against the Dark Arts: Imagine you are locked in a one-on-one duel. Give an account of what happened and what spells you used against your opponent. No less than 100 words.
I turned slowly as I looked to see the absolute idiot who had stopped me on my way out of Hogwarts to join the battle between the D.A. and a few stray Death Eaters. As I stared at my opponent, trying to identify him or her, and I finally realized who it was. “Professor Umbridge! What a pleasant surprise.” I spoke with malice in my voice, and barely concealed violence. “Now dearie, you don’t want to do anything you might regret now, do you?” Umbridge’s soft, girlish voice enflamed me even more, and I fingered the scars on my hand where the words ‘I must not act like a mudblood’ were scratched into my skin. Raising my wand, I pointed it at the woman who had been ever so cruel and shouted “Tarentallegra!” I laughed as Umbridge’s fat legs began to dance and twitch uncontrollably, Umbridge’s face twisting in pain. “Sectumsemptra!” I yelled even harder as I watched, fascinated as the green light left a gaping, bloody hole in Umbridge’s chest. “Avis! Oppugno!” As a flock of yellow canaries flew from the tip of my wand, they suddenly looped towards Umbridge and proceeded to attempt to peck her eyes out as she lay bleeding on the floor. “Thanks for teaching me ever so well, Professor.” I muttered as I turned on heel and left Umbridge.
8. Divination: Look into your crystal ball and write a short piece predicting your future, with no less than 100 words.
I looked into my crystal ball, watching as the swirling mist lulled me into greater and greater… sleepiness. But then, protruding from the mist were two figures that looked like they were dueling. Immediately, I leaned in closer to get a better look. As I peered, now almost excitedly, into the crystal ball to see if I could recognize any faces, I looked and saw my face, and my brother, Jake’s face. Stunned, for my brother and I rarely fight, I looked closer and realized that while dueling, we were both yelling at each other. After poking the hard glass, the vision inside of the ball changed. My brother and I were now sitting side by side on a bench, hunched over and reading a book together, but for some reason, Jake sitting stiffly. Then, as quickly as it had come, the figures inside of the crystal ball became swirling mist again. “Whoa,” I said as I scrambled to write down my experience in my diary.
9. Flying Lessons: Choose two Quidditch positions and describe in detail their roles in a game, and how they should play.
Beaters: Beaters are, in my opinion, the people you least want to make angry on a quidditch team. Armed with large bats, which alone make them formidable foes, the beaters’ job is to aim bludgers, hard black balls that attack players, at the other team, while protecting your own team from the bludgers. There are two beaters per quidditch team. Beaters are usually short and stocky, and have strong upper arms to aim and hit bludgers. Chasers: Chasers are three players on the quidditch team that use the quaffle to score. Chasers hold the quaffle, trying very hard not to drop it, and try to score on the opposing team’s keeper, while avoiding bludgers. Chasers have a large range of diverse tactics that will keep the quaffle out of the other team’s hands. A favorite among many chasers is the sloth grip roll, in which a chaser rolls upside down to avoid anything that might hinder them to get to their goal.
10. Herbology: Research into the magical properties of a wood used for wands. Try to be as detailed as possible.
Powerful magic lies in a wand of oak. One of the longest surviving trees, oak trees stand tall and straight no matter what. Oak trees ability to survive also gives them another quality in wands, wisdom. Oak wands represent strength, endurance, and knowledge. Holders of the oak wand are often stubborn (unwillingness of the oak to bend), long- lasting (the oaks’ endurance to survive no matter the conditions), protective, and tending to believe that they know everything. Oak wands were often represented in Celtic folklore as one of the strongest, most powerful, and most magical woods in the world of wandlore.
11. History of Magic: Write a short history of your House founder (Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw or Salazar Slytherin). If little is known about them, don't be afraid to be creative! No less than 100 words.
Helga Hufflepuff was born in the early medieval times, probably in the late 1500’s, to a world where those with magic hid it well for fear of prosecution or death. Helga Hufflepuff was born as a beautiful baby with stunning blue eyes and startling almost white, blond hair. Hufflepuff’s magical heritage was hidden from her by her own parents, who had integrated themselves into muggle society for the sake of their child, but that did not prevent the many oddities that seemed to happen when Hufflepuff was around. Finally, when Helga was nearing her mid- teen years, her parents told her about her wonderful and secret magical heritage. At this time, Hufflepuff, with her long, wavy blonde locks, her baby blue eyes, and her new found magical knowledge, set out to find out more about the magic that had been hidden to her for so long. Helga fashioned herself a wand of willow with the core of a unicorn foal in a stroke of brilliance, only to find that for many years wizards had been using wands to channel their powers. As Hufflepuff entered her thirteenth year of her travels, by then many forms of magic had been revealed to her and then learned, Salazar Slytherin and Godric Gryffindor sent a message to sweet Hufflepuff to ask her if she would help them create a school of magic for those who would otherwise be left alone without guidance for their powers. Hufflepuff agreed readily and at once set out to begin this new school, christened Hogwarts. When Helga arrived, she was introduced to Rowena Ravenclaw, with whom she became great friends. Together, the Hogwarts four became the greatest quartet of wizards to ever collaborate on any such a project, but were soon troubled by dissention within their ranks. Gryffindor and Slytherin were having a serious disagreement on whether the children of muggles, nonetheless with an aptitude for magic, should be allowed to attend Hogwarts. Gryffindor argued fiercely for the muggle- borns to be allowed into Hogwarts, but Slytherin felt that they couldn’t be trusted with the secret fruits of magic. Finally, the rift between the two became so great that Slytherin felt the need to leave the school, and with a terrible secret that he alone knew the answer to. Hufflepuff was heartbroken by Slytherin’s abandon of the other Hogwarts four, but found solace in the fact that now even muggle- borns could join in on the magic at Hogwarts.
12. Muggle Studies: Choose one aspect of the wizarding world (eg. flying, conjuring items, apparition etc.) and explain a Muggle equivalent.
Apparation, disappearing one place and appearing in the next second somewhere else, is a major part of any adult wizard’s life. The three parts of apparation are destination, determination, and deliberation. Muggles have made many different substitutions for apparation, but one of the ones most commonly used is the subway. The subway, a rapid transit system, appears in over 160 cities worldwide and is often substituted for cars in crowded cities. The oldest subway in the world is called the London Underground, and was built in 1863. All subways are built underground due to the need to avoid traffic. Although there is no muggle equivalent, subways are a quick and easy substitute for apparation.

| 13. Potions: Choose one known potion from the wizarding world and give as much information as possible on it. Try to include any known ingredients, brewing instructions, effects and possible side effects.
The polyjuice potion is one hidden in mystery and is used both in good and evil. The polyjuice potion is used to transform oneself into another by adding a piece of the other into the potion. The full effects of the polyjuice potion last for one hour, and after that hour is up, the potion’s effects will wear off and you will return to your normal form. The polyjuice potion is for pure human use only. The polyjuice potion is made up of lacewing flies (which must be stewed for 21 days), leeches, bicorn horn, knotgrass, fluxweed picked at a full moon, shredded boomslang skin, and a piece (such as a hair or fingernail clipping) of the person you wish to turn into. Possible side effects of the potion are caused by carelessness in taking the piece of the person that you want to change into. If you, for instance, attempt to use an animal hair, you will turn partially into that animal and be stuck that way for quite some time.
14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies: Imagine you have had a paranormal experience. Describe what happened as fully as possible.
I lay quiet in my bed as the darkness of my room closed in on me. My breathing was soft and even, but for some reason I couldn’t seem to get to sleep. Crawling out of my bed, I quickly cast a disillusionment charm on myself and crept through the dorm to get some fresh air and go out for a midnight walk. Pulling myself through the window, I put on leg over and then used the levitating charm to fall slowly and gently to the ground. I allowed myself a deep breath, and inhaled the wonderful night air. Crouching down, it wasn’t like anyone would see me out there, I took the disillusionment charm off and proceeded into the darkness of the Hogwarts grounds at midnight. Then, I turned around suddenly, thinking that I heard footsteps in the forest. Spinning, I did a quick 360 and drew my wand. Perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea to have gone on such a bold midnight walk. “Skie… Schuyler…” A raspy voice spoke from behind me, and I whirled around, terrified of what I might confront. As soon as I looked though, my screams dried up in my throat. “Oh Merlin. Catherine?” I looked and stared at the gaunt figure in front of me, my older sister Catherine who had died when I was only seven after she contracted dragon pox. “Catherine, is that you?” The ragged figure in front of me looked like my sister, before the illness but the fire that I had always known that burned in my sister’s eyes was gone, her eyes were now flat and empty. “Skie…” The ghost of Catherine repeated my name again and I felt my knees begin to give out. “Schuyler, my dear sister…” Catherine’s voice broke my heart as I heard her whisper in her voice that sounded like grating metal, so unlike the throaty tenor that had captivated me with it’s stories when she was alive. “You must leave Skie… Leave.” Catherine looked at me, her eyes boring little holes into mine. I walked over to Catherine and attempted to grab her hand, but she pulled away quickly and refused to meet my eyes. “I was scared, Skie. I was scared of what awaited me on the other side of death. And now, now I regret that I had not the courage to leave this earth. But now, you must leave the forest, for there is nothing for you here.” Catherine looked at me and smiled sadly. “Catherine…” My eyes filled with tears and I tried to hug Catherine to show her that I didn’t care that she was a ghost, but Catherine pulled away again and looked at me forlornly. “Tell Jake I love him. You nor he will see me again.” Catherine smiled again, this time with more of a wise knowingness than anything else. Then, my sister turned and disappeared into the night with me watching and in tears. “Bye Catherine…” I murmured as I floated myself back up into the dorm and curled under the covers, remembering my sister’s smile and her parting words. As I finally drifted off to sleep, I heard a gentle laughter that I knew well. Catherine had finally found her peace.
15. Transfiguration: Write a short paragraph on how Transfiguration is of use to witches and wizards in a wartime situation.
In a wartime situation, transfiguration is extremely useful. Transfiguration is the act of using a wand and magic to turn one thing into another. Transfiguration would be useful in a wartime situation because you could turn ordinary objects, like sticks, and turn them into dangerous objects, like knives, and send them hurtling towards your enemy. Another way transfiguration is useful is when you do a partial or whole transformation of your body. By adding parts such as claws or teeth to yourself, you can greater inflict damage on your opponent. In battle with a magical creature, you can also transfigure their dangerous parts into something nonthreatening, such as marshmallows.

| 1. Ancient Runes: Using the Elder Furthark Runes, write out your site username. STEPHY
2. Arithmancy: Using your site username, work out your Character Number, Heart Number and Social Number.
Character Number Stephy (1+2+5+7+8+7= 30, 3+0= 3) 3
Heart Number E (5) 5
Social Number Stphy(1+2+7+8+7= 25, 2+5=7) 7
3. Art, Drama and Creative Writing: Using your site username, create a play on words, for example:
S is for Super T is for Talented E is for Energetic P is for Pleasant H is for Helpful Y is for Young
4. Astronomy: Imagine you are an astronomer, and you have just discovered and landed on a new planet. Describe what you see in no less than 100 words, including a picture if possible.
As I make my way through this newly discovered planet I see that the land is filled with vegetation just like Earth but there are some differences. For one as I look up into the sky I see instead of a blue sky or even gray to indicate a storm but purple clouds. I do not know what is making the clouds purple but it does look pretty. Along with this the planet is composed 50 percent of water instead of 70 percent like the Earth but unlike Earth most of the water is freshwater. I bet humans could live here seeing as to how I do not need to wear a suit.
5. Care of Magical Creatures: In no less than one-hundred words, describe the magical creature of your choice.
There are many different kinds of dragons out there but the many different kinds of dragons do have some things in common. One thing that they have in common is that they all have scales. There isn’t a dragon out there that doesn’t have scales. Also they all have teeth. What would a dragon be without teeth? Even though they all have scales not all of them have wings. Some don’t need wings in order to fly while others rely on their a lot. Some use dragons to protect valuables seeing as to how dragons can be very protective of those kinds of things.
6. Charms: In a battle situation, what charms would you use to help you out? No less than 100 words.
If I was in a battle the one charm that I would first perform is a Shield Charm. This charm would protect me from many spells but not all. The more powerful ones it would not protect me but it would weaken them making them not as effect which could come in handy. Another charm that I would use would be the Confundus Charm. This would make my opponent become confused which would give me a huge advantage if my opponent is unsure of what they are doing and are extremely confused. While they are trying to figure things out I would be able to send many spells at them and hopefully be able to use a Stunning Spell to knock them out.
7. Defence Against the Dark Arts: Imagine you are locked in a one-on-one duel. Give an account of what happened and what spells you used against your opponent. No less than 100 words.
I walked into a room and saw my opponent in the room. They quickly sent a Stunning Spell at me but I sent a Body-Bind Curse at him but they quickly evaded the attack by setting up a shield charm causing my spell to bounce harmlessly to the ground. He sent another Stunning Spell at me which I countered with a Confundus Charm and quickly saw the confusion shown his face. I saw my chance and sent a Body-Bind curse at him again and because of his confusion this spell hit him. I watched as his arms and leg’s snapped together and he fell to the ground which meant that I won the duel.
8. Divination: Look into your crystal ball and write a short piece predicting your future, with no less than 100 words.
I see in my future me winning third place again in the dueling tournament for this term. Also I see me celebrating with my fellow Ravenclaws us winning the house cup for the first time. We will hold a huge party in the house along with in the Community so that the other houses can Congratulate us in our party that we will be hosting. I then see me graduating and going to college with my one friend to become a teacher. I will start teaching in the High School and might stay there even after getting an offer to teach at some college. That’s as far as I can see.
9. Flying Lessons: Choose two Quidditch positions and describe in detail their roles in a game, and how they should play.
Beater- The beaters are the ones who carry the bat and protect their fellow team mates from the oncoming Bludger that are flying around the pitch trying to knock everyone off of their brooms. They should keep an eye out for their team mates along with the opposing team mates. Using their bats they should try to hit the Bludger towards their opponents trying to knock them off of their brooms.
Seeker- The Seeker should try to avoid Bludgers as they fly around the pitch looking for the golden Snitch. If caught they earn their team 150 points. The Seeker should keep an eye out for Bludger seeing as how they are targeted during the game because of their important rule. They have to be quick and fast in order to be a good Keeper
10. Herbology: Research into the magical properties of a wood used for wands. Try to be as detailed as possible.
The Elder is a sacred tree that that some consider to be unlucky. They think it to be unlucky because its association with the crucifixion of Christ and of some rumors that were spread by the church. It has Masculine energy. Celtic Astrology is 25 November to 23 December. This kind of wand is used in Faerie Magic, banishment, magical arts, protection from evil, imagination, change, and healing.
11. History of Magic: Write a short history of your House founder (Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw or Salazar Slytherin). If little is known about them, don't be afraid to be creative! No less than 100 words.
Rowena Ravenclaw wasthe founder of the house Ravenclaw. She well known for her intellect and creativeness as to why many students placed into Ravenclaw have these traits. Rownea was great friends with Helga Hufflepuff. She wore a diadem on her head that say “Wit beyond measure is a man’s greatest treasure” which shows that she valued knowledge. She had a daughter named Helena who is now Ravenc;aw’s own Gray Lady. It was said that she died from a broken heart.
12. Muggle Studies: Choose one aspect of the wizarding world (eg. flying, conjuring items, apparition etc.) and explain a Muggle equivalent.
Apparition- with apparition you must concentrate on getting to your destination and with a flick o your robes your there. The closest thing the muggles would have to apparition would be their cars or the airplanes. They both get the person to their destination, maybe not as quickly nor as risky but its still a method of traveling.
13. Potions: Choose one known potion from the wizarding world and give as much information as possible on it. Try to include any known ingredients, brewing instructions, effects and possible side-effects.
Felix Felicis is a potion that is used to make one feel lucky. Everything that they do that day will end with great and prosperous things. If they were to take a test they would be able to pass it or as they walk down the streets they might run into some money on the road. The potion is a golden color and if it not bottled the surface of it will look like drops of the liquid is jumping up out of it. This potion is banned in during test taking and competitions. This potion is one of the more difficult potions to make.
14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies: Imagine you have had a paranormal experience. Describe what happened as fully as possible.
I was walking through a haunted house with my friends when something weird happened. As we were walking up the stairs we could hear this moaning coming from one of the rooms. As I get closer to the room the moaning started to turn into shouts of rage. Whatever it was didn’t want us there. Once I pull open the door I felt this gust of wind blow back my hair and I heard my friends screaming. Looking around I was a ghost floating between us. I screamed and the ghost screamed too but not in fright like I did but in anger. It said Leave this house now. We were so scared that we headed straight downstairs and ran out of the house never to return again.
15. Transfiguration: Write a short paragraph on how Transfiguration is of use to witches and wizards in a wartime situation.
In a wartime situation transfiguration can come in handy in many ways. A wizard would be able to take whatever is around him and change it into something else to help aid him in his battle. He could change a chair into a giant venomous snake that could help kill his opponent in seconds if bitten. They could change something nearby into a dagger that they could throw when their opponent wasn’t expecting it. They could also turn grass into some kind of rope that they could use to tie up their opponent too.

| Magical Aptitude Test1. Ancient Runes: Using the Elder Furthark Runes, write out your site username.2. Arithmancy: Using your site username, work out your Character Number, Heart Number and Social Number.Character Number: This number indicates the general personality type of the individual. Gemma Cullen-Malfoy: 7 + 5 + 4 + 4 + 1 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 5 + 5 + 4 + 1 + 3 + 6 + 6 + 7 = 70 7 + 0 = 7 Perceptive, understanding, and bright, sevens enjoy hard work and challenges. They are often serious, scholarly, and interested in all things mysterious. Originality and imagination are more important than money and material possessions. Sevens can also be pessimistic, sarcastic, and insecure. Heart Number: This number represents the individual's inner life and can indicate desires and fears hidden from others. _e__a _u__e_-_a__o_: 5 + 1 + 3 + 5 + 1 + 6 = 21 2 + 1 = 3 Three represents the idea of completeness or wholeness, as in the threesomes past-present-future and mind-body-spirit. Three indicates talent, energy, an artistic nature, humor, and social ease. Threes are often lucky, easygoing, and highly successful, but they can also be unfocused, easily offended, and superficial. Social Number: This number represents the outer personality, the face an individual shows to the outside world. G_mm_ C_ll_n-M_lf_y: 7 + 4 + 4 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 6 + 7 = 49 4 + 9 = 13 1 + 3 = 4 Like a table that rests solidly on four legs, four indicates stability and firmness. Fours enjoy hard work. They are practical, reliable and down to earth; they prefer logic and reason to flights of fancy. They are good at organization and getting things done. Like the cycle of the four seasons, they are also predictable. They can be stubborn, suspicious, overly practical and prone to angry outbursts. The conflicts possible in "two" are doubled in four. 3. Art, Drama and Creative Writing: Using your site username, create a play on words.G is for generous E is for exaggerating M is for mind-boggling M is for merry A is for affectionate C is for contemplative U is for underestimated L is for lazy L is for loony E is for elaborate N is for nosy M is for muffin A is for artistic L is for longing F is for fierce O is for oblivious Y is for yummy XD 4. Astronomy: Imagine you are an astronomer, and you have just discovered and landed on a new planet. Describe what you see in no less than 100 words, including a picture if possible. It must have been the most important day of my life so far, though if it also was the best one I couldn't quite say. I had been trying to prove the existence of a certain planet for God know how long and had come to the final solution of oing there - except I didn't know where exactly this there was. Without a specific destination, I had simply roamed the Universe in my rather obsolete spaceship. I had been told that I didn't stand a chance since my imaginary planet was just this: imaginary. And even if it had existed, nobody believed my spaceship would have brought me any close to it. Actually people seemed to mourn for me already, positive that this was going to be a journey in which I could not possibly survive. Until today I wonder whether they ever held a memorial for me or anything the like, since I never came back to earth. I have found Vandraward and never left it again afterwards! It is weird to live here at first, seeing as the sky is pitch black all around all the time, but after a while that works fine, as does the fact that the ground is all shades of pink around here [a fact that I can't say I dislike]. Plus this planet has gases around it that keep me alive at least as well as those on my original planet, and sometimes I feel as if the air around here is even better for me and my body. I can be more active during daytime deeper and more relaxed in the nights! Oh, and days and nights can be distinguished thanks to a radiant pink sun at a fair distance. Every morning - or what I decided is the morning - it appears slowly, creeping up on the horizon, and believe me, it's by far the best sunrise you'll ever get to see. Once it's risen all the way and ready to wander my personal sky, it gives light to a highly interesting nature. There's so much too discover that I still am far from done exploring, but so far I encountered animals not unlike those on Earth as well as plants that show certain similarities. I would try and declare those my main source of nutrition, but I do have a desire to stay alive. My food supply is, however, coming to an end, so not long from now I'll have a choice to make: go back to Earth, at least to do some grocery shopping, and possibly take parts of plants and animals with me to find out whether they're edible. Or simply not care, stay here and eat them either way. So far, I' not sure what to do, but I will have to find out soon. So just in case you never hear from me, you'll know that - well, you'll know that I'm still around here, though whether living and eating or dead and poisoned won't be sure. Not that anybody will ever read these notes... 5. Care of Magical Creatures: In no less than one-hundred words, describe the magical creature of your choice. The ManticoreManticores are highly dangerous magical creatures, rated XXXXX by the Ministry of Magic, who would be classified as beings if it weren't for their tendency to be violent. Apart from this, they are both sentient and capable of intelligent speech. The threat posed by Manticores derives from two aspects: First of all their scorpion's tail secretes venom which will kill the victim that has been stung at once. Forthermore, defence against a Manticore is highly difficult due to the fact that its skin repels any known charm and that it therefore can't be fended off magically. In 1296 a Manticore that seriously injured a person was even let off for the sole reason that nobody dared to approach it. These creatures originate from Greece, where they are suspected to have been bred by wizards as creatures to guard possessions of high value. While this would be another proof of the importance of banning experimental breeding, it is inofficially known that Manticores themselves have already been used to breed another species, the Blast-Ended Skrewds, a cross-breed of those and fire-crabs. Manticores are a species also known to Muggles by the means of folklore. They picture these creatures as inhabiting forests in Asia where they search for human victims. Upon encountering one, they fire a salvo of venomous darts at him or her, wait until they have died - which doesn't take long - and then feed on them, with all bones, clothings and possessions they have on themselves. The appearance of folklore's Manticores equals that of the actual creatures. 6. Charms: In a battle situation, what charms would you use to help you out? No less than 100 words.I guess the question of what charms I'd use is connected to the question of what kind of battle I am fighting. If I were engaged in a fierce, yet still somehow rather harmless battle, the spells I would go for are the following: Expelliarmus, the Disarming Charm, would be great if I needed to disable my opponent for a short while. Of course this wouldn't help protect me against hings such as wandless magic, which is why I'd also use the Shield Charm Protego to protect me from whatever magic might be directed at me. Another Charm I'd use to protect myself would be the Disillusionment one, so the person I'm battling against couldn't see me to direct their magic at me. In case it'd be physical danger rather than magic I'd have to protect myself against, I'd use the Revulsion Jinx so the other has to let go of me and back away, something that's never bad. Furthermore I'd try the Impediment Curse if in a sticky situation, since it would slow my opponent down and probably allow me more time to think of an actual solution to the problem at hand. A Confundus Charm might also help every once in a while, since a confused opponent should be at least a little more harmless Finally, if all else wouldn't help, I'd use Incarcerous, a spell which conjures robes and binds people. This should definitely help me out if nothing else does! Similar effects might be created by a good Stupefy, especially if shot continously at various opponents. Of course if I was in a really bad battle where things were more violent and dangerous, I'd adjust my way of fighting and go for the more offensive strategy. In this case, a Sectumsempra might maybe be a good idea, since a cut off arm should distract the opponent's attention for a while. If this weren't enough, I'd also try an Adava Kedavra or at least a Crucio, because if I would have to fight for my life I wouldn't care about Unforgivables enough not to use them. Of course I could always go with an Entrail Expelling Curse to turn the other inside out, but that sounds just too nasty and like a huge mess that I didn't want to be anywhere close to. And for the really unfair fights, I'd stick with my motto: If they give you a werewolf, give them a Homorphus Charm! Then if the beast were back to a human, I'd continue my fight with the means I mentioned before. Apart from that, there's some Charms that might come in handy in either type of battle, and those are the Episkey to heal any wounds inflicted on myself or those fighting along with me, the Finite Incantatem to end any effects of spells that anybody on my side could be under at that moment, and the Homenum Revelio, which should probably be used first right upon entering a new battle area to see if any human being is hidden there. All combined, these spells should get me out of any battle alive and healthy! 7. Defence Against the Dark Arts: Imagine you are locked in a one-on-one duel. Give an account of what happened and what spells you used against your opponent. No less than 100 words. It was an old house, almost a ruin, that I was hiding in. I had found a room that presumably used to be a bedroom and that still had a huge wardrobe inside it. I opened its doors and stepped inside, careful to close it behind me without any noise. I knew that the opponent was all over the house, as were my friends. It was cowardly to hide there, I was aware of that, but I had hurt my leg badly when I tripped down a rotten staircase and I needed the time to heal myself. I racked my mind to remember the healing charm I had been taught at some point, and once I figured it out, I pointed my wand at my leg and mumbled "Episkey!" It was a growing problem that I had never bothered to learn nonverbal spells, they were my weakness and I tried to overcome it by training my voice to be as silent as humanly possible. I thought about that as I sat in the dark, mouldy little room, but suddenly I was torn from my mind by a creak. I pushed the wardrobe's door open the slightest bit and looked into the room that was lit by the light shining inside from the floor. I noticed a shadow sneaking towards the wardrobe, and without further thinking I lashed out my wand and whispered "Protego!" I felt the shield that was created around me, and before it was completely there, I lowered the wand onto my head and used the DIsillusionment Charm. I wasn't perfect at it, but it was enough and so I waited until the person slowly opened the doors, and then I crept out beside them and stepped behind them, where I silently - or as silently as possible - said "Expelliarmus!" When the wand flew from the hand of the other, I knew that he had to be aware of me, and he was. He whipped around and looked around frantically, and obviously it was possible to spot me with my imperfect Disillusionment. Had I known that he was able to do wandless magic, I'd have skipped the disarming and gone right for something more effective, but this way I found myself target of a Stunning Charm, and I missed being stupefied only by an inch. I pointed my wand at the opponent and screamed "Incarcerous!", but the hooded person simply laughed and dodged my spell. He retrieved the wand in a movement I hardly could see, and then I had to dance left and right to get away from the colourful shots coming from my enemy. I felt my heart race, the adrenline rushed through my veins and it was probably only because of this that I was able to think of another way to stop this embarassing chaos. I jumped to avoid another jet of light, aimed at the dark shadow and stunned him. I knew that the spell wouldn't last too long, so I screamed "Incarcerous!" again and didn't even wait to see the person being bound up but simply slipped out of the room. 8. Divination: Look into your crystal ball and write a short piece predicting your future, with no less than 100 words.Another divination lesson had arrived, and still I was afraid that I would never be a Seer. Unless so many others, I always thought that this is as serious a subject as all the others we were taught at school, but I simply couldn't see anything in the tea leaves, crystal balls and star constellations. It was upsetting me time and time again, and so I didn't expect anything anymore when I made yet another try at crystal gazing. I saw the usual fog, thick and grey, swirling through the little orb. Irritated, I let my mind wander, not really focussing on the ball anymore, and that's when all of a sudden the grey seemed to part. Afraid to concentrate too hard and thus destroy the blurred image, I gave my best to think of other things while looking at the vision. As the fog cleared, I could see a cat proudly striding down a path, however as it approached a fork in the road its steps became smaller and it seemed to get slower and less proud. Thinking about what I saw, I knew that the parting ways meant a decision would have to be made in someone's life and obviously that person wasn't happy about it and was having a hard time coming up with a way around making a choice. The meaning of the animal, though, wasn't all that easy to guess. Pondering who might be symbolized by a cat, I came to the conclusion that the only person I had ever perceived as one was myself, and that was when I noticed I wasn't yet looking at the future. This was my current situation, and I was more than excited then to find out what the future would be for this. I looked back to the crxstal ball and observed the cat nearing in on the place where the way parted finally, but at the very moment when I was supposed to see its decision the image blurred, faded and was replaced by something new. This time, I saw a black, huge dog with glittering eyes, and I quickly covered my mouth with my hand to keep myself from screaming out loud. On the verge of hyperventilating, I gave my best to calm myself down by considering that while I was a cat to myself, this was no horrible omen but rather the way I thought of my boyfriend - or that's what he was at that time. As I waited to see the meaning of the dog in my future, I found him standing on a meadow with roses all around him, which made me think this was a good sign for my future. Obviously I would have taken the path I had thought I would, and this made me so happy that I was able to ignore the humongous dark clouds hanging in the sky above the meadow long enough for the professor to tell us goobye, waking me from my trance to the there and then and making me leave the Divination classroom with a huge idiotic grin on my face. It had finally worked, and what I'd seen was worth all the hopeless tries before! | |

| 9. Flying Lessons: Choose two Quidditch positions and describe in detail their roles in a game, and how they should play.
Quidditch is the most popular wizard sport, and it probably has as many fans in the wizarding world as soccer has in the Muggle world. It is played by two teams at a time on a pitch with three goalhoops at either end. Each team consists of seven players: three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper and one Seeker. The balls are the red, big Quaffle, the black, dangerous Bldugers and the tiny, important Snitch. The play of the Chasers and the Keeper revolves around the Quaffle, the ball which is used to score goals, each worth ten points. The beaters use their bats to shoot Bludgers at members of the other team to keep them from getting any scores. The Seeker is the one with the role that for the most time of the game is the most relaxed, since his duty is finding the Snitch and catching it to receive 150 points for their team.
The Quaffle is brought into play by the referee at the beginning of the game and the Chasers try to catch it first so they can start scoring for their team. Once they have the Quaffle with them, they have to work together as a skilled team in order to earn as many points as is possible for them. They need to know many maneuvers by heart and be able to communicate between them which one they want to use without the other team understanding and acting defensively against it. Chasers should be strategical people, probably even a little more than the rest of the team. In case the other team's Chaser have the Quaffle with them, the defending team's Chasers should figure out what the others are trying to do and try to get the Quaffle from them while they are passing them between themselves.
The problem for the Chasers, apart from the Keeper who is trying to block the goalhoops and prevents scoring, are the Beaters with their bats and the Bludgers. They try to shoot the small, black balls at their opponents in order to prevent their opponents' Chasers from scoring with the Quaffle, the Keepers from catching the Quaffle when the Beaters' team is trying to score, the opponents' Seeker from catching the Snitch. They need to find out who should be aimed at at a certain point in the match to gain the greatest advantage, then get a Bludger under their control and aim it perfectly well and sneaky enough so that the ball will hit the target person exactly and that this person cannot dodge the Bludger. Because of those Beaters, all players need to know good maneuvers to avoid being hit by Bludgers, such as the Sloth Grip Roll. They are probably the most dangerous players and should act carefully and responsibly enough to not hurt any other player seriously.
10. Herbology: Research into the magical properties of a wood used for wands. Try to be as detailed as possible.
I chose the hawthorn wood because it is associated with the dates May 13th to June 9th, the time span into which my birthday date, June 5th, belongs. I also chose this because it is the wood used for the wand of Draco Malfoy, my favourite character of the Harry Potter series. Wands made of hawthorn wood open insight and give wisdom, as well as providing psychic protection for the owner of the wand. The wand helps develop and use one's creativity and allows one to be more patient. It also gives more self confidence to its owner. Its abilities and usages for magic include making charms, detecting magic, banishing evil spirits, weather works and concealing magic.
I think this wood would be best for a witch or wizard who is not too sure about their own believes and qualities and needs to be encouraged to be themself and make their own decisions. This is why it seems fitting to me that Draco Malfoy owns a wand made of this wood, since he seems unsure about what to do and which convictions to stand up for in the confusion caused by his parents' stable support for Voldemort and Dumbledore's words on the tower. It seems that this wandwood might keep him from being manipulated and strengthen him.
11. History of Magic: Write a short history of your House founder (Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw or Salazar Slytherin). If little is known about them, don't be afraid to be creative! No less than 100 words.
As I am a proud Slytherin, my House founder is the great Salazar Slytherin who came from the fen. Like all the founders, he lived around 1,000 A.D. and helped building up the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The proud man, who looked wise and distinctly like a monkey, generally took students into his house who were pure-blooded and haughty about it, as he believed that only pureblood wizards and witches are supposed to attend Hogwarts and be taught about the world of magic. Because of this, he got into a lot of arguments with Gryffindor, and finally he built the Chamber of Secrets, a chamber holding a beast with the purpose of killing all muggleborns, before leaving the school.
It is unknown why exactly he had such an aversion against Muggles and Muggleborns, but it might be due to the fact that Muggles lived in fear of Witchcraft, at some point even having witch burnings to get rid of them. If there happened to be a witch or wizard in a family that had never expereinced magic before, he was probably afraid that if that individual received a Hogwarts letter, the whole magical community might have been discovered and extinguished. Given that he was one of the first registered Parselmouth and also a skillfull Legilimens, I think it is possible that he wanted to be in control of things. This would make it very likely that his idea was to guard the wizarding world from the prejudiced Muggles in order to ensure their existence.
Furthermore it's notable that Salazar was an ancestor of Tom Riddle aka Lord Voldemort, who later continued on with the cause of killing Muggles and Muggleborns, however in a way that would never mean discretion aboutt he existence of wizards and witches but rather a careless slaughtering which was not discovered for the sole reasons that Muggles like to pretend abnormal things don't happen or are in fact normal, just so they don't have to think about the abnormalities.
12. Muggle Studies: Choose one aspect of the wizarding world (eg. flying, conjuring items, apparition etc.) and explain a Muggle equivalent.
In today's wizarding world, there are few taboo topics, but one of those things barely ever touched upon are the Unforgivable Curses, the Imperius, Killing and Cruciatus Curse. All three of them are quick and evil ways of dangerously harming another person and can only be performed by wizards with extremely strong feelings towards their target. The Imperius Curse causes the victim to be absolutely under the command of the one who cast the spell, doing anything this person wants the victim to do, the Killing Curse has the target die without any physically detectable damage and the Cruciatus Curse makes the target feel horrible, quite unbearable pain without inflicting physical damage. While those are unforgivable for both their evilness and the danger they pose, one has to admit that the few traces all three of them leave behind are quite cunning and hard to imitate in any other way. And this is where the muggles come into play: Incapable of producing the same hardly tracable effect by any of their non-magical means, their equivalents in all three areas are rather poor ones.
The Imperius Curse
To get another person into doing what he or she wants her to, a Muggle has to go to great lengths and desperate measures. Due to the lack of magic, getting into the head of the victim is not possible in any way so far. Instead Muggles have come up with ideas such as brainwashing, which seems thoroughly stupid to the whole wizarding community since it requires making the victim believe he or she wants to do the things one wnats them to do. Another method that works without this work of conviction is blackmail, where one knows something about the target person that this person wants to stay secret. With gathering evidence of the existence of said secret, presenting it to the victim and requiring certain actions of them as a gratification for letting it stay secret, slightly similar effects to the Imperius Curse can be achieved, though more complicated and easier to be detected.
The Killing Curse
Muggles are facing a distinct lack of good and secretive killing methods. Of course this doesn't keep them from trying all kinds of ways to bring death upon one another: knives, guns, poison, car-runovers, trained animals....you think of it, a Muggle did it. Their deprivation of magic makes them surprisingly creative, yet they so far still have to find a way of comitting murder that leaves as few traces as a simple Adava Kedavra does. Naturally their lack of ideal techniques does not keep them from killing for the shortest moment, instead they risk much, often their lives by death penalities or life sentences, hoping that they won't be discovered as the murderer. As with the Imperius Curse, the effect should be the same, if performed correctly, yet the whole thing is riskier and less easy. Also note that while the Killing Curse requires intense negative feelings towards the target person, Muggle style murder can be comitted even by those e.g. fooled by a situation into believing they want to kill their victim.
The Cruciatus Curse
As with all the Unforgivables, Muggles again don't have it as easy as your common witch or wizard, but they have also again come up with their own solution to the problematic lack. Muggles torture both mentally and physically, yet most of the times torture is mentioned they are talking about the physical one. Once more the fact that their substitutes, at least those for physical torture, are just not magical makes them leave horrible marks that one can hardly miss. On the other hand, their methods are quite varied, they have a lot of different devices to put somebody to the torture and they do all seem to be effective. Their second disadvantage, though - which to some may be an advantage, as a matter of fact - is that as with killing, they don't have to have extreme feelings towards their target person, a simple kneejerk reaction is just fine for them to inflict the same pain they could also inflict with deep hatred.
Altogether, it seems that the Muggles have it harder than magical people when trying to seriously hurt somebody, plus their methods they came up with instead of magic do nable them to damage people they wouldn't even have wanted to damage had they given it a second thought. This strong disadvantage, as opposed to the advantage of having to 'try harder' to harm somebody, makes me unsure about whether or not the Muggles are actually the inferior ones regarding this subject or possibly the superior ones, just for once.
13. Potions: Choose one known potion from the wizarding world and give as much information as possible on it. Try to include any known ingredients, brewing instructions, effects and possible side-effects.
The Draught of Living Death
The Draught of Living Death is a very strong sleeping potion, possibly the strongest since the name suggests an extreme effect. It is presumably taught to sixth year students in NEWT potion classes, at least for Harry and the others this was the case. It was also mentioned already in the first book, when Snape was questioning Harry in the first potion class. The potion is brewed using asphodel in an infusion of wormwood as well as valerian roots and sopophorous beans. Those ingredients seem fitting: asphodel was associated with death and the underworld in earlier times, wormwood was often used as a medicine and represents bitterness, valerian is used for sedatives and hypnotics.
However the commonly known brewing instructions obviously aren't the ideal ones. The juice of the shrivelled sopophorous beans is meant to be squeezed out by cutting the beans, however crushing them with the flat side of a silver dagger works a lot more effectively, and instead of stirring counter-clockwise all the time as one is instructed to do, adding a clockwise stir after every seventh counter-clockwise one will quicken the brewing process. Various stages of the potion during brewing include a halfway stage of deep purple, later a light shade of lilac and in the end, if done correctly, clear as water. While brewing, a blue steam should be released by the potion.

| 14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies: Imagine you have had a paranormal experience. Describe what happened as fully as possible. It happened some years ago, when I was on vacation in Tunisia, on the peninsula Djerba to be exact. I was there with my cousin, Liz, and my parents. One evening my parents where having a drink at the bar and Liz and I got bored, so we decided to go down to the beach and enjoy the beautiful starlit night. My parents didn't even notice us leaving, so everything seemed fine. We sat in the sand and marvelled at the way the moon shone upon the light waves of the sea. It was rather idyllic, had I been there with some boy it might have been the most romantic date of my life. After a while, though, stargazing got boring for the two of us so we decided to stroll down the beach and see where we'd end up. We knew that somewhere quite close to the hotel there had to be an old lighthouse and we wondered whether we'd find the way to that. I was happy that throughout the whole holiday, I had started taking my camera with me everywhere, since it seemed like a good opportunity now to take some pictures of the lighthouse at night. While we were walking, we talked and giggled about random stuff, we hardly noticed how far we had gotten until suddenly we saw what we had wanted to see. It was an amazing sight, the dark sky with the glittering stars, the perfectly full, ghostly white-yellowish moon, the lighthouse that was slowly giving in to the obvious signs of aging. I wanted to take my camera out and take some good pics, but all of a sudden we saw a wooden fishing boat on the seashores, coming closer to the beach where we stood. Being there wasn't exactly a crime, but since you can never be sure about what kind of people you'll meet out there at night, Liz and I were not quite sure what to do. We took a few careful steps back into the direction we came from, but something about that boat was just too fascinating for us to leave the place. Looking around for somewhere to hide that'd still enable us to see what's going on, we finally chose to duck behind a dune. From behind it, we observed the boat as it was coming closer and closer, looking ragged and strangely shiny. Without a sound, it slid onto the sand of the beach, and we saw a girl stepping out, pale skin, long and matted hair, dressed in a weird ripped robe. Liz's breath caught, I could feel goosebumps all over my skin. We looked at each other silently, equally alarmed, yet the fascination was overwhelming us and we never moved. The girl walked towards the lighthouse, which was weird enough seeing as it was barely a ruin that was left, but she didn't ever stop. She opened a rather ancient door and I jumped at the horrible squeak as Liz stiffled a scream beside me. Horror showed in her eyes as we looked at each other again, gesturing back to where our hotel was and deciding at the same second to run for our lives. After we had run about half the way back, I suddenly noticed something was odd: hadn't I brought a purse? It was gone, and I considered going back to get it for the shortest moment, but when I turned around and actually saw light in the lighthouse, making round after round, I forgot about it and sped up again. The next morning after breakfast we checked a book we had seen at the reception desk, 'The Myths of Djerba'. We were sure that we had seen something paranormal, and we found a story that seemed to confirm our idea. It told of a young couple having just fallen in love, a fisherman and a breathtakingly beautiful girl. They were often seperated by his fishing trips to the sea that lasted at least a week, but whenever they were together, they forgot about those and enjoyed their happiness. At one time, he had been out with his boat for some days when out of nowhere, a storm came up. Laila, as the girl was named, went crazy with fear for her love, and in an attempt to guide him safely back home, she snuck up into the lighthouseduring the full moon and turned on the light. Farid indeed saw the light, but he misjudged his position and came into a vortex he didn't survive. Laila waited all night, but the only thing she ever saw again of her Farid was the wreck of his boat which was stranded on the beach the next morning at sunrise. According to the book, ever since then she keeps coming back every full moon in an attempt to save her lost love. We couldn't really believe the story, as a matter of fact we were quite sure to have imagined the whole thing altogether, and so we didn't freak out again when we decided to go back there so I could look for my purse with the camera. However, for some reason we still approached the place from behind the dunes this time, and once we got closer to the dune we had hidden behind I could see my purse lying there the way I had left it. Everything seemed normal now, and seen in the daylight the whole scene definitely looked not spooky at all. We had just gone around the dune to walk back on the warm beach as my eye caught something peculiar: there, resting in the sand on the in front of the lighthouse, was a boat wreck, looking old and totally ruined, and carved into its rotten wood was the name 'Laila'. Without as much as a glance back, I found myself running once again, but that day I took the long second to make sure I had my bag with me and my cousin by my side before I swore to myself that I'd never go back there... 15. Transfiguration: Write a short paragraph on how Transfiguration is of use to witches and wizards in a wartime situation. In general, Transfiguration is a difficult subject and hated by many young witches and wizards during their time at school already. However in a wartime situation it can be extremely useful to anybody who ever bothered to learn the right spells. The first way it can be useful is to turn one thing at the place where a fight is located into another: either any piece that is lying around could be transfigured into a weapon or something to defend oneself or else the weapon or even the wand of the opponent could be turned into a useless piece of junk. Furthermore, if a witch or wizard could master the especially difficult spells, they could even turn the opponent or themself into something that is harder to fight or easier to fight, depending on who is transfigured. And if one were able to transform oneself as an Animagus, they could turn themselves into their animal form and fight the opponent or run from them more easily. Depending on what the war situation revolved around, if the opponent was searching for a specific thing - like Harry and his friends searched for the Horcruxes - one could try and transfigure the thing that is looked for into something else and thereby prolong the time during which the enemy can be fought while they are still focussed on where their desired item can be found. 4. Astronomy:
After months of my traverse through the vast beyond, I have finally made a discovery worth revealing—this strange new world. Perhaps, one of the coldest planets, and possibly impossible to dwell on, this mass of land has temperatures unnatural of our environment and our solar system. Traces of land can be seen in the various areas of terrain, but most of the live has died. The air does contain enough oxygen to live though, due to the massive amounts of photosynthesizing water plants. On this strange area, there are many glaciers and extremely clean water sources. Aside from the dying black ground, no living creatures can be seen above land, though many dwell under the seas. In nature icy and very blue, this world is one to capitalize on, as it’s naturally clean and has many useful necessities to human life. 5. Care of Magical Creatures:
A creature of wonder and awe, unicorns dwell in the many forests of Great Britain. These pure and innocent creatures are often gold at birth and are known for having a single horn on their head (from Latin ‘unos’ meaning ‘one’). Their silky white coat is very distinctive at night and they often symbolize life and luck. Most of this species prefers to be around females, due to their naturally gentle nature. The blood of the Unicorn is perhaps its most valuable part, and also the most cursed. To kill a creature of such natural beauty, surely you have sinned. The elixir the blood contains will save anyone within an inch from death, but the life they live afterwards would be truly cursed. 6. Charms: Elladora ran through the forest, a dozen Death Eaters were on her tail and she was alone. She quickly recalled a useful charm that would buy her some time. “Protego!” she shouted, pointing her wand behind her. The shield immediately appeared and she ran more to distance herself. “Accio Firebolt,” she said, hoping to make a getaway without having to use excessive violence. She stopped and faced the area where the Death Eaters were most likely to arrive from. As they broke through her shield, she said, “Stupefy! Impedimenta! Petrificus Totalus!” to Stun, Freeze and Paralyze them. As the last of them could no longer move, she found her summoned broom and flew off to alert the Ministry of Magic. 7. Defense Against the Dark Arts: “I see we meet again, little girl.” Elladora glared down the long path to her opponent, Bellatrix Lestrange. “Even when we have your sweet little cousin, you still try to defy us? You will submit to me!” Bellatrix yelled, sending a Cruciatus Curse at Elladora.Elladora shrank down as the pain fell upon her, but she didn’t scream, she’d fight so she wouldn’t have to give Bellatrix what she loved the most. After a minute of agony, Bellatrix dropped the curse, seething. Elladora was breathing hard, “Don’t you ever think of hurting Luna. Reducto!” she sent at Bellatrix, watching her fly back into a wall. “Impedimenta!” she added, freezing her. “See you at the next Ice Age.” 8. Divination: Elladora stepped into Professor Trelawney’s classroom. She always thought that Professor Trelawney never understood true Seers, but nevertheless she went on to take her final examination. “Hello, Professor,” she greeted. “Hello, Elladora,” Professor Trelawney replied. “Please, gaze and reveal.” Elladora sat on the provided cushion and wondered why she should reveal her future to her teacher, but did as she was commanded. As the fog inside the crystal ball cleared in front of her eyes, she observed it deeper. She saw herself, flying on her broom over the Hogwarts Express, but heading towards King’s Cross. Elladora leaned closer to the ball and followed her silhouette. She watched herself follow the Hogwarts Express and board without being caught, her future self crashed into a Death Eater- Bellatrix Lestrange, who had taken to torturing her. Then, Nymphadora Tonks appeared, stunning Bellatrix and tying her up. “How did that happen?” Elladora asked aloud. “I’m sorry, what?” Professor Trelawney asked. “Er…” Elladora hesitated. “It appears that I’ve beaten Hermione Granger on an exam.”
9. Flying Lessons: Seeker: flying all over the field in search for the Snitch, the Seeker must find this tiny golden ball and catch it before the other team’s Seeker does. Doing so will earn the Seeker’s team an extra 150 points and end the Quidditch match. Keeper: situated in front of the three goal posts, the Keeper must stop the Quaffle from entering the hoops at all costs. Quick reflexes are essential for proper Keeping.
10. Herbology: Willow: Willow the Witches Tree. The nature of Willow embodies everything feminine. The Willow is the Goddess herself. It is magnetic and elegant, natural and beautiful. Willow is also calming and soothing. The properties of such a wood, bring together the elements of Wind, Water, and Earth, stabilizing the female energies. Wands, talismans and tools for rituals made of willow are the pinnacle of the magical order. At least one ritual tool should be made of willow to represent the divine nature of the goddess. As a witch’s wand, willow is strong in the realms of dreaming and divination. Willow leaves on a dream satchel will help guide its owner in the subconscious realm. Divination tools made of willow have a stronger connection to the goddess’s realm; leading the bearer more easily into the world of the unseen and unknown.
11. History of Magic: Rowena Ravenclaw: Rowena Ravenclaw was one of the two female founders of the four founders of Hogwarts. She believed in the intelligence and in the mental ability of young witches and wizards, wanting to train those capable. She also created to Diadem, which would give its wearer infinite knowledge. Her daughter is Helena Ravenclaw and is said to have stolen the Diadem, but its exact whereabouts are unknown. Her daughter’s ghost still roams Hogwarts as the Grey Lady and Ravenclaw house’s ghost. Rowena was a talented witch who believed that ‘Wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure’, emblazoning it upon her Diadem.
12. Muggle Studies: Flying- A muggle’s flight is often scheduled, booked and always through the same path on a crowded airplane, jet, or helicopter. They abide by this and follow it regularly. Wizards, on the other hand, have absolute freedom of flight, so long as they have a broom handy. They can fly in any path, pattern, through any forest, plain, just as long as they make sure the muggles don’t see them. 13. Potions: Polyjuice Potion: this potion is used to become someone else, one dose of this potion lasts for about an hour, but doses can be renewed, apparently indefinitely. (Barty Crouch Jr.) It’s ingredients include Lacewing Flies (stewed for 21 days), Leeches, Powdered Bicorn Horn, Knotgrass, Fluxweed (pickled at the full moon), Shredding Boomslang Skin, and a bit of who you want to turn into (e.g. hair, skin, nails, etc.) The recipe for this potion is found in the book entitled “Moste Potente Potions”. Before the last ingredient (piece of changee) is added the potion looks like thick dark mud and it bubbles. The last ingredient will change the potion’s color and texture but it is dependant of the person of the last ingredient. The potion can be used for cross-gender transformations, but shouldn’t be used with animal fur because the result will need to be undone by a Healer. 14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies: One day, I was sitting on my bed staring out the window. My house had been known to carry ghosts but I thought nothing of it. My dad called me from downstairs and told me to look after my brother, who was in the back yard at the time. I went across the hallway into the room with a clear view to see my brother, to make sure he was there before I tried to find him. Once I was out of the doorway, the door slammed shut. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew me back and I fell flat on the ground. A large amount of pressure was pressing down on my chest and I was suffocating. I tried to yell for my brother, but I couldn’t get a lungful of air. I blacked out after a few minutes, and I remember waking up when my brother burst into the room, gasping for air. The wind went back out the window.
15. Transfiguration: In a wartime situation, Transfiguration spells are extremely helpful for easily accessible projectiles and creating decoys. Witches and wizards, could also morph themselves into their Animagus form and make a quick escape, or use their non-human instincts to fight without a wand. As a human, they could easily create distractions for their opponent that could be very helpful. Transfiguring a leaf into a lead ball could save your life.

Arithmancy: Using your site username, work out your Character Number, Heart Number and Social Number. Character Number: 4 Heart Number : 7 Social Number: 6 3. GRYFFINDORGAL4HP G is for grinning R is for reliable Y is for Yelling F is for Flamboyant F is for Frisky I is for Intelligant N is for Noble O ir for original R is for remembers G is for Gryffindor (my house) A is for academic L is for Loyal 4 is for 4ever H is for Happy (Actually, it's for Harry, but you know..) P is for powerful (And Potter lol) 4. Astronomy: Imagine you are an astronomer, and you have just discovered and landed on a new planet. Describe what you see in no less than 100 words, including a picture if possible. My feet met the hard surface of planet Lucitania with surprising ease. Clearly this planet did follow the laws of gravity…the first since earth. Around me, I could see the pink surface of the planet stretch far and wide, deep craters dotted here and there, and, alas, there was indeed no American, British or Chinese flag. I grinned, knowing that I would be the one to plant the Hogwarts flag upon this amazing planet…..and I marveled at the splendid planet as no other had. It was amazing…a dream come true! I couldn’t believe the vastness of the place as I planted my flag in the unusually firm, yet soft ground….like sand…pink sand! (112 words) Picture: 5. Care of Magical Creatures: In no less than one-hundred words, describe the magical creature of your choice. Boggarts are dark creatures….shape-shifters none the less. No one knows what exactly a boggart really looks like. They take the shape of what a particular person fears the most. They reside in dark places, such as drawers, closets and cabinets. When a person sees a boggart, they see only there worst fear. There is a simple spell to repel a boggart. The ‘Ridikius,’ charm. One needs only to think of something funny, and cast the spell, and the boggart will change into whatever it is you find so amusing. Boggarts can be defeated only with laugher though….as laughter makes it confused. (101 words) 6. Charms: In a battle situation, what charms would you use to help you out? No less than 100 words. In a dangerous battle, charms are not as useful as hexes or defensive spells. However, in charming, there are a few spells that would be useful. The silencing charm would be good if the enemy tried to disorientate the situation with loud bangs, as they could silence the bangs to make them not be a problem. You could also use wingardium leviosa, the lifting spell, to life heavy objects and drop them on enemies when they least expect it. Pretago, the shield charm, is a good charm for repelling nasty spells, though is useless against the unforgiveable curses. And accio would be useful too of course, if indeed you need to call your broom to you to get you out of there ASAP if everything was going very badly. (129 words) 7. Defence Against the Dark Arts: Imagine you are locked in a one-on-one duel. Give an account of what happened and what spells you used against your opponent. No less than 100 words. I looked at my opponent before bowing to him. I could see beads of sweat forming on his head and upper lip. I took three steps backwards, and on the word ‘One,” I whipped around and yelled, “Expelliarmus!” My opponent was knocked off his feet, and his wand flew from his hand. He stumble as he got up, and gather his wand up before raising it to cast at me. But alas, I was too quick for him. “STUPIFY!” I yelled, pointing my wand in his direction. He fell over, blinking in a thick way. He got up again, still blinking. “Patrificus totalus,” I said, waving my wand at him. He went rigid and fell to the floor. The full body bind never failed… (124 words) 8. Divination: Look into your crystal ball and write a short piece predicting your future, with no less than 100 words. I gazed into my crystal ball, all my concentration focus upon it. I was troubled when I saw myself alone. All alone….in the dark. Then, out of no-where, a man was behind me. He smiled a vicious smile. He kissed my neck softly, but greedily…or was he kissing my neck. I fell to the ground, writhing in pain, as blood spilled from my neck. I could almost hear the myself screaming…gasping for air…wanting to breathe, but unable to. It was needless to say he’d bit me, the greedy, murderous vampire. Was this indeed how I would meet my end? But things you see don’t always come true…do they? (108 words) 9. Flying Lessons: Choose two Quidditch positions and describe in detail their roles in a game, and how they should play. Seekers: A good seeker is sneaky. They know when it is time to swoop in and catch the snitch from under the other seekers nose. They should also be good at catching things (well, that’s a given) and they should also be very observant. After all, not many people can see the tiny silver ball that is the golden snitch. Seekers are preferred small, and light, because those two qualities equal speed and agility. Seekers may need to wait until the team is a certain amount of points up before they can catch the snitch, as this is an important decider to see who wins the cup (whether it be a simple house cup, or a world cup) Seekers may execute moves such as the Wronski Feint and the Plumpton Pass. Chasers: Chasers main objective in the game of Quidditch is to score goals with a ball called the quaffle by passing it cleverly among each other and getting it past the chaser through on of three gold hoops. They need to pass the quaffle quickly between them in a series of combination passes so that the other team will have difficulties tackling them. Chasers must be sturdy, and not easily phased by a nasty tackle which could lead to minor injury. They may execute moves such as the Porskoff Ploy and the Reserve pass. | ((Here's the next part))
10. Herbology: Research into the magical properties of a wood used for wands. Try to be as detailed as possible.
Vine wood wands our said to incredibly faithful, which I believe to be true. Evidence to show this is one Hermione Granger's wand. It was great for all kinds of work. The vine wood is said to be the wood that the wand of noble, intelligant people possess. It is a swishy type of wood. It, like most wand trees, often in a strange shape, but vine wood is mostly found in Italy. Vine wood wands are indeed very fine to look at and has many mystical properties as well as magic ones.
11. History of Magic: Write a short history of your House founder (Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw or Salazar Slytherin). If little is known about them, don't be afraid to be creative! No less than 100 words.
Godrick Gryffindor was from the wild moors, and was the most brave and valiant of the four founders, hence why his house is the house where brave people go. As the song so truly says,
“You might belong in Gryffindor, Where dwell the brave of heart, Where daring nerve and chivalry Set Gryffindor apart!”
Now Godrick Gryffindor and Salizar Slytherin were said to be best friends, but the a big fight between the four founders over which traits to take in and teach caused them to part ways…as well as the other founders as well. Gryffindor has a sword, which today comes to a true Gryffindor when in great need. I has unique properties that allow it to do this…an ancient magic if you will. (125 words)
12. Muggle Studies: Choose one aspect of the wizarding world (eg. flying, conjuring items, apparition etc.) and explain a Muggle equivalent.
Apparation is simply disappearing from one place and appearing again exactly where you want to be. It requires great skill and concentration, but when you get the hang of it, there isn't anywhere you can't go. In a swish of a cloak, in a blink of an eye, in a lick of your lips...your there. It's as simple as that!
13. Potions: Choose one known potion from the wizarding world and give as much information as possible on it. Try to include any known ingredients, brewing instructions, effects and possible side-effects.
The draft of living death is a sleeping potion (it is very strong....hense the name) It makes the drinker fall into a deep, coma-like sleep. This potion contains valerian root and Sopophorous beans, amoung other ingredients. At the halfway point of brewing this potionm it should be a 'smooth, black-current coloured liquid.'
14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies: Imagine you have had a paranormal experience. Describe what happened as fully as possible.
(Just to tell you....this is not something I'm making up...this really happened to me)
When I was about nine, we had to get our cat Jess put down. He had this disease where he was losing all his white bloods cells which by the way help to fight sickness and heal wounds. He got it because he was bitten by another cat. We were all really sad and after we buried him, I wished I could see him one last time. Then a few months later, I was sleeping in my mum's room because dad was working overnight. My mum was asleep but I was wide awake. I heard a purr just like Jess coming from under the bed but I didn't dare look.
Two weeks later, I was down by the garden putting daises on Jess' grave. I finished and was walking back up when I heard a meaow. I glanced over my shoulder and there, walking after me, was Jess. I wasn't sure I saw right but when I looked back, he was gone. (This story is 100% true!)
15. Transfiguration: Write a short paragraph on how Transfiguration is of use to witches and wizards in a wartime situation.
Transfiguration would come in very handy if you are ever in a war. You could transfigure bombs into other things (Eg Tomatoes) and you could put a Disallusionment spell on yourself so people could see you, so that they couldn't hurt you as easily. Also, you could change your own appearance to disguise youself as someone else.

4. Astronomy:
The beautiful planet we found was immense. I was chosen to explore it, and it was amazing. As I roamed around, I examined plants and animals that have never been seen or even dreamed of on Earth. The rivers weren’t running water, though, it was a silvery substance that I identified is quicksilver. I couldn’t believe it. This planet erased anything we had thought would be needed for life. The planet had a small amount of water, but it was tainted with quicksilver, so I guessed that these plants were thriving off of that insaed of normal water. As it got darker, I noticed a faint ring in the sky, and realized that it must have been the blue and purple rings we had seen earlier. This planet had 3 small moons, but I could tell they were no more than large rocks gripped in the great planet’s gravity. We had to return to the craft now, but I knew that I would be returning soon.
5. Care of Magical Creatures:
The thestral is a winged, very bony, black horse-like creature. It can only be seen be those who have witnessed and accepted death, so it is considered a bad omen to see one. Thestrals have fangs and a very good sense of smell and are attracted to carrion and fresh blood. They are capable of fast flight for long periods of time, but prefer to be on the ground. They also have an excellent sense of direction, and can be used as a ‘serviceable but uncomfortable means of transportation.’ Thestrals can be somewhat domesticated, but it has to be with a very willing trainer.
6. Charms:
Though I would prefer curses or jinxes in a battle, certain charms can also be used. The shield charm, Protégo, is obviously very useful for repelling minor to moderate hexes and jinxes. The Patronous could be used if you were locked in battle with a dementor, but is very difficult to produce. You could also use a Confundus Charm, which would confuse the enemy so they would be unable to duel. In a very dangerous battle, one could use Protégo Horribilus. I could use the supersensory charm to be more aware of my surroundings. And also, before I forget, there is Expelliarmus, the disarming charm.
7. Defense Against the Dark Arts:
I sized up my opponent and decided she wouldn’t be too much of a hassle. I took my stance and the moment the judge said 1 I flicked my wand and shouted “Rictusemspra!” and also cast Protégo on myself. I waited for my opponent to get up, and settled into a crouch to dodge if they reacted faster than I anticipated. As they got up, my opponent shouted “Tarantallegra!” I jumped out of the way and cast “Stupefy!” on my opponent. As the judge decided that she was unconscious, I was declared the winner of the duel, and they used Rennervate on her to tell the result.
8. Divination:
As I looked through the fog of my crystal ball with unprecedented concentration, I began to see many flashes of bright light. I saw my self in the center, and everybody had their backs to me. But they were defending me because I didn’t have a wand. That was a bad sign. I saw it lying on the ground in front of me, snapped into three pieces. That was a REALLY bad sign. There was a person standing next to me with a look on his face like he had no clue what was going on so I snatched his wand and saw that we were in an intense battle. Before I could cast any spells, I was hit with a flash of red light. At first I thought I was dead, then I remembered that the killing curse had green light, not red. I was woken what was clearly 12 hours later, and told that the battle was over.
9. Flying Lessons:
Seeker: A Seeker is usually light and quick, so they can move around and look for the Golden Snitch easily. They must be very observant, and it is usually good to have the best broom possible, to get the best speed. Seekers are targeted for injuries the most out of all the team members, because catching the Snitch earns that Seeker’s team 150 points.
Beater: The two Beaters each have a wooden club that is used to protect their team from Bludgers, and hit them at the opposing team. They are normally bulky and have good arm strength, as to hit the Bludgers with enough force to do damage.
10. Herbology:
Ebony: Ebony is well known as the most powerful magical wood. Ebony wands give the wizard pure, unadulterated power. The power of Ebony is non-discriminating, because it is useful for magic in any element. Ebony is used most in magic that seek to banish, dissolve, disapparate or cast out evil. Ebony has the power of all the elements, and is very versatile.
11. History of Magic:
Rowena Ravenclaw is known for her cleverness and wisdom. Her students were selected for intelligence, which is why that, instead of a password for their dormitory, students are given a riddle to answer. Ravenclaw’s diadem was turned into a Horcrux when her daughter stole it and hid it in Albania, only to be found be Voldemort later. Ravenclaw was good friends with Helga Hufflepuff, and this emphasized the failed friendship between Gryffindor and Slytherin.
12. Muggle Studies:
Owls/E-Mail: Owls are relatively fast, so I am comparing them to E-Mail. Owls can deliver a letter in a couple of days, which is slower than e-mail, but follows to same idea. They are faster than the normal muggle post, and though e-mail takes only a few seconds if you have a fast connection, it may take time before the person actually reads the e-mail. Most letters sent by owl post are delivered to exactly where the recipient is at the moment, so they usually reply immediately.
13. Potions:
Amortentia: Amortentia is the most powerful love potion known to wizards. Recognizable by its mother of pearl sheen and its steam that rises in spirals. The potion smells differently to different people according to what attracts them. It does not really cause the drinker to fall in love with someone, it simply causes them to develop an intense infatuation or obsession with the maker.
14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies:
One day I was walking home from a friend’s house at night. It was really dark out, because there was no moon, and the only light came from street lamps that were placed every 50 yards. I walked past a large bush and the street lamp above me suddenly blacked out, and the one across the street did the same. It was completely black and I couldn’t see a single thing. There was some rustling in the bush next to me and I thought I saw a grey shape come out before I was knocked to the ground. I hit my head and immediately passed out. I woke up in a white room that a recognized as the hospital, with doctors standing all around me.
15. Transfiguration:
You could use transfiguration in a war by changing guns/wands into dishrags, or change trees into living creatures that you commanded. You could also transfigure yourself to make you unrecognizable, or, if you have one, change into you animagus form to hide out. You could transfigure tanks into plastic blocks or make your enemy stand out more by changing the color of their clothes/skin to bright neon colors.

Astronomy: Imagine you are an astronomer, and you have just discovered and landed on a new planet. Describe what you see in no less than 100 words, including a picture if possible. We were out searching, my fellow astronomers and I, in another galaxy. We found a barren planet just beyond the Gemmarian Nebula. We could see a small sun peaking from behind it and mystifying glow around it. Of course we decided to land on it and explore this new planet that seemed to as of our landing been uninhabited by life forms such as ourselves. Among the violet and gold colored desert sands we, as expected, found different bacterium that weren’t too different from our own on Earth, but none the less we took samples to be analyzed further at a later time. Other samples we took were of the wonderfully colored sand and rocks, along with the water-like liquid that had a glow much like that of which surrounded the planet. My theory was that the glow surrounding the planet was produced due to evaporation of the liquid, but as far as the glow of the liquid I was puzzled. After we ventured through many caves and walked up and down countless sand dunes, we discovered our theory of no life forms were on this barren planet. That is at least not anymore. Once we returned to the ship we informed the base so they could plan later exploration of the planet which may lead to the discovery of alien beings buried under the mysterious world. 5. Care of Magical Creatures: In no less than one-hundred words, describe the magical creature of your choice. Merpeople are conscious beings who live underwater, such as in lakes and seas, and can only breathe air for short amounts of time. They are intelligent and developed their own culture and social structures and have a great fondness of music. They have their own language called Mermish. Their voices sound like screeching when above water, but under water they are understandable and sound croaky. Being that they can be found all over the world, merpeople vary in appearance much like humans do (aka black and white skin colors among various others). Sirens in Greece, which are the oldest recorded of the underwater folk, are like the Muggle depictions of mermaids, which have almost the same exact upper figure of a human being but with a fish tail in place of legs. This of course is different than the selkies of Scotland and merrows of Ireland. In the lake of Hogwarts, selkies can be found. These merfolk have grayish skin and long, wild, dark green hair and eyes as yellow as their broken teeth. Around their necks they wear thick ropes of pebbles. They have powerful silver fish tails with upper bodies that resemble humans, but not as much as the sirens. They are also known to be quite tall, even as large as seven feet. 6. Charms: In a battle situation, what charms would you use to help you out? No less than 100 words. Accio (the Summoning Charm) - This charm is a helpful in the case that you need a broom to help get away faster and you are not able to apparate. Or if you want to get some book of spells, an item you are trying to get but your opponent is trying to stop you from getting (or the opposite), or even a large rock quickly. The Banishing Charm - This can be helpful when say, your opponent has a dangerous magical item that could harm you, others, or you just need to get away from them. (the summoning charm can help you obtain it rather than just knocking it away) Confundo (the Confundus Charm) - can be used to confuse the enemy and make them Confunded. This can help you make a run or make it easier for another spell. Diffindo (the Severing Charm) - helpful when bound in magical ropes or other restricting things you would need to escape. Protego (the Shield Charm) - this can be one of the most helpful protection spells since it deflects hexes thrown at you by surrounding opponents. 7. Defense Against the Dark Arts: Imagine you are locked in a one-on-one duel. Give an account of what happened and what spells you used against your opponent. No less than 100 words. I was in the courtyard of my large home. My father had invited the Malfoys over for an afternoon lunch, well mostly for talk of politics and such with Mr. Malfoy and some ogling of his wife. Of course this had left Scorpius and myself a bit bored since we could really care less of such talk and didn’t want to see my father’s jaw on the table. Thus why, I was there along with the Malfoy boy. After a bit of pointless chatting, like about our plans of Hogwarts domination as the year’s Head Boy and Girl, we decided to duel in preparation for the coming year. A smirk was placed on my lips as I thought of all the ways to defeat my Ravenclaw opponent. My tongue swiped on of my fangs as if threatening the boy before saying, “Bring it on blondy.” He titled his head and narrowed his eyes before replying, “You are blonde too.” “Nope, I have died it all away,” I replied pointing at my hair with a grin. He rolled his eyes and let out a frustrated sigh before getting into a duel ready position. “Bring it on smart--“ Before he could finish what he was saying, I shouted, “Everte Statam!” Scorpius was sent flying into some nearby bushes. As he got up he noticed brooms through the window of a nearby wall and quickly apparated inside. I, unaware of why he went inside at the time, ran to the door to open it. It was locked and of course no unlocking spell would work on a door locked by my father, so I shouted, “Bombarda!” and the door blasted open. Just as I made it in, I saw my opponent apparate back out with broom in hand. I ran back out to the courtyard where he now flew and glared up at the snickering Ravenclaw. I then pointed my wand to one of the dragon statues nearby and shouted out, “Draconifors!” The Malfoy boy’s eyes then widened as he saw the statues transfigure into living dragons. A smirk was plastered on my face as it flew after him. Of course it soon fell as I heard a terrifying voice bellow out the previous door-blasting spell I had used. Mrs. Malfoy gasped in horror at the dragon and my father yelled out, “Reverso Transfigurim!” The dragon turned back to stone and a levitating charm was quickly casted by Mr. Malfoy. Scorpius then flew back down realizing we just got ourselves in trouble, well more so me since he never got a chance to do anything. I saw his glasses were broken and I put my wand to them saying, “Oculus Reparo.” I then looked at the narrow eyed fathers of ours and the frowning woman and gave out a nervous giggle before saying, “Sorry.” 8. Divination: Look into your crystal ball and write a short piece predicting your future, with no less than 100 words. I sat in Divinations class next to Kaylee and Gemma, trying to pay attention despite how easily we get distracted around each other. Professor Etta was in the front of the class giving out instructions for our classwork, which basically boiled down to using the crystal balls in front of us to predict our futures. I let my friends go first since I wanted to get an idea of what everyone was doing exactly to make sure I didn’t mess up. When it was finally my turn, I put my hands near the crystal ball, letting my magical energy activate it. I saw two trophies, House Cup and Quidditch Cup, circled with snakes, which I presumed meant that we would win both this term. I smirked as I imagined the other houses’ defeated looks before focusing back on the fortune telling device. A fog filled the glass and the trophies disappeared. Once it cleared I saw a familiar boy playing a trumpet. As the view pulled back for a full picture, I could see him serenading a feline, which I guessed was me. Maybe I would finally win that boy over after all this time. Then again she could be watching him for the first time as he performed publicly. The fog then reappeared and wiped away the image of her long time crush. She then saw her father’s parents leaving a train, which she knew to be their planned arrival. Then she saw a look on her grandmother’s face she hadn’t seen in a while, a look of acceptance and pride. A tear then threatened to fall from her eyes. Oh how she had always longed for that smiling face again. After that the fog returned and stayed. She realized it was over and pulled her hands away from the ball. She then grabbed her quill and parchment before writing down all that she had seen in the ball. Once done, she handed it to her professor and left the classroom like all finished students were then allowed. 9. Flying Lessons: Choose two Quidditch positions and describe in detail their roles in a game, and how they should play. Beater - There are two of these on each team, thus four on the field during a match (less in cases where one or more is injured during the game). They are equipped with all the gear and equipment of other players plus a beater’s bat to use to hit bludgers wherever they want. Their job is to protect their team’s players from any approaching bludgers and aim the nasty balls towards opposing teams in hopes of weakening the other team. Seeker - This is the lone wolf of sorts in the game that is in most cases the one who wins the game (depends on whether or not the 150 points from catching the snitch is enough on top of quaffle scored points to beat points the opposing team’s chasers scored). Their goal is to catch the small golden ball called a snitch before the other team’s seeker does. Once caught, the game is over and the seeker who caught it wins their team 150 points and most often the game.

| 10. Herbology: Research into the magical properties of a wood used for wands. Try to be as detailed as possible.
I chose the wood Vine to research based on the Celtic Zodiac where it is the wood for September 2 - 29, my birthday being on the 3rd. It is also the current wood on the zodiac’s calendar (in GMT). It is variegated, or multi-hued, in color and depending on the type, produces fruit or thistle.
Magical Properties of Each Vine: Blackberry: Prosperity and Protection Blueberry: Spirituality and Dream Magic Grape: Fertility, Inspiration, Prosperity and Binding Thistle: Courage, Protection and Strength
The main deity over the Vine is Branwen, a goddess similar to that of the Greek Aphrodite. She is daughter of Llyr, Lord of the Sea, and the Welsh goddess of Love, Sexuality, and the Sea. This is likely why she is referred to as the “Venus of the Northern Seas”. The Vine is also sacred to Etain, wife of the Irish Lord of the Underworld, and to the Tuatha De Danaan, Gods of Light and Goodness.
Based on those deities, it seems that a wand made of Vine would be good at performing magic involving love, the sea, light, and the Underworld, along with whatever magical abilities are already strengthened by the type of Vine, such as protection charms with Blackberry vines or dream divination with a Blueberry vine wand.
11. History of Magic: Write a short history of your House founder (Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw or Salazar Slytherin). If little is known about them, don't be afraid to be creative! No less than 100 words.
Salazar Slytherin lived around 1,000 A.D. and was one of four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. From what we have all heard from the Sorting Hat, he is from the fens, which I assume means he is from Norfolk or possibly East Anglia. He was the first recorded Parselmouth and accomplished Legilimens, and also a found believer of a solely pure-blood school.
He was, as I have seen from his statue, monkey-like and ancient in appearance. He had black hair once from what I have heard, but on the statue it is in its grey state with his long beard, though not his hair which is all gone. He was thin and pale with grey eyes that could frighten even the toughest of wizards.
After the school was founded, he had his own group of students he wished to teach, as did the others. For years the house system worked, but Salazar and Godric soon got into serious arguing. He had wanted a pure-blood only school but Godric did not want to allow it. Eventually he left. But parts of his presence remained. His house remained a pure-blood group, with very few exceptions, and of course the Chamber of Secrets, containing a basilisk would finish his “noble” purpose of killing all muggle-born students in the school.
12. Muggle Studies: Choose one aspect of the wizarding world (eg. flying, conjuring items, apparition etc.) and explain a Muggle equivalent.
Wingardium Leviousa, or levitating charm, is much like the Muggle forklifts. They lift heavy objects that wizards would use that charm for and move them to other locations. Though, like most muggle equivalents of spells, it takes more work and training. At eleven, a witch or wizard can perform a wizarding charm, but a muggle needs to be an adult and needs training in the mechanics of the forklift vehicle.
13. Potions: Choose one known potion from the wizarding world and give as much information as possible on it. Try to include any known ingredients, brewing instructions, effects and possible side-effects.
Amortentia / Love Potion: (ingredients and instructions to this potion are not shown since Filch will not allow its distribution)
Ingredients - 9 frozen Ashwinder Eggs, 9 basil leaves, 9 red rose petals, 9 cloves, 9 apple seeds, 9 drops vanilla extract, 9 drops strawberry juice, and 1 ginseng root, cut into 9 equal pieces n/a (may include frozen Ashwinder Eggs *hinthint*)
Insructions - Put these nine ingredients into a cauldron on the ninth hour of the ninth day of the ninth month of the year. Stir the potion nine times with a wooden spoon. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat and let it simmer for nine minutes. Remove the cauldron from the heat and allow the potion to cool off. Blow nine times upon the potion, and then you are done. A word of warning: This potion is extremely potent and should be used with caution. Its results can be very intense, long-lasting, and often difficult to control or reverse. n/a
Description - It is recognizable by its mother-of-pearl gleam and steam that rises in spirals. The smell differs person to person based on what attracts them.
Effect- Makes the drinker develop a powerful infatuation or obsession with target. The effects of will wear off naturally over time, but can be renewed with further doses of potion. The length of the effects of the potion varies depending on factors such as the weight of the consumer and the attractiveness of the person intended to be obsessed with.
Note: Does not create real love since that is impossible to manufacture or imitate. Also the longer the potion is kept before consumption, the stronger the obsession when taken.
Also Goyle, you will have to give doses to that girl in Charms every five minutes if you want her to stay obsessed with you after the first dose.
14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies: Imagine you have had a paranormal experience. Describe what happened as fully as possible.
I had the weirdest experience of my life that night. I was fourteen and with some family in Fair Play, Missouri located in the United States of America. I had decided to go for a late night walk in the small town, feeling safe and free from harm being surrounded by familiar buildings from my childhood and all things muggle -- with the exception of my family and what magical items we had with us that is --.
It was sudden, I was walking down a barren street and then I began to hear the loud galloping of horses. I turned and was instantly surrounded by horses with soldiers riding them shouting and shooting guns. It took a few seconds to realize they were ghosts, except these were not like the ones at Hogwarts that I could talk to. They were stuck in an infinite loop that played on for eternity until someone exorcised them.
Not much longer after my realization I saw a girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes in a white nightgown and holding a ragged stuffed rabbit. I could see tears falling from her eyes. She wasn’t a ghost though, at least she didn’t seem to be as I looked at her; after all ghosts didn’t cry. I reached out for the little girl to protect her from it all, but as my arms began close around her she disappeared and all was silent. An apparition? She had seemed so real…maybe they were all not ghosts in the first place. Maybe it was a premonition, but of the past. Or a memory of something she had forgotten. Had she once seen ghosts down this very street and just now remembering? If so, she couldn’t blame herself for forgetting such a terrifying scene at such an age.
15. Transfiguration: Write a short paragraph on how Transfiguration is of use to witches and wizards in a wartime situation.
Transfiguration is useful for wartime for many reasons. First off, when lacking necessary equipment when you don’t know proper spells to do the task. Also, you can use transfiguration as a distraction by transfiguring statues into what they are statues of (ex. Dragon statues into dragons and bird statues into birds). The statues can also fight along side depending on what they are. Transfiguration is also handy when trying to hide certain things from your enemy as something else or disguising yourself or an ally as something else to keep hidden.

Art, Drama and Creative Writing: Frightening All the Elephants into Running In amongst the Egg-covered clowns in the crowd is not a good idea. Omelets don’t make themselves, but Flattening the clowns doesn’t help. Don’t step in the elephant’s way. Often, in the past, children have been lost, Out of sight of their parents who May or may not have taken their eyes off them for a second to watch the clowns. / Fantastically Aesthetic and Elegant Ragamuffin who Incidentally Enjoys the occasional Omlette Fresh from the Daily grocer Over the hill and across the Ocean of Many and Plentiful eggs. 4. Astronomy:Its colour is unlike any seen before. Almost like blood, but deeper, and lighter, and more ghastly than any blood I’ve ever seen. There’s a blackness, a bleakness about the planet that I can’t explain. It looks deserted, abandoned – unwanted by life, so life fled the eerie place. I’m astounded and fascinated by it – I cannot look away. There doesn’t seem to be any water, and I imagine it to be a ball of heat and arid deserts. There’s a dark spot – many dark spots – that look like endless abyss of night. Further on I can see mountains, jagged formations of rock that look threatening and fierce. And still, I must go there, I must touch the dirt of this foreign place which looks so alien from my own home… 5. Care of Magical Creatures:The dragon is a majestic creature: sly, cunning, beauty and grace combined. The Welsh Green in particular is known for its dainty tastes and particular habits of keeping its scales bright and up to a high standard. A healthy, happy Welsh Green’s scales glitter in the faintest light, and almost seem to glow when bathed completely in sunlight. Their electric eyes are more green than the greenest leaf, and infinitely more frightening than your average lethal snake or deadly spider. For while a dragon is large, a dragon is still a hunter – and everyone is prey. They keep their talons sharpened to the finest edge, and the Welsh Green is no different. 6. Charms: Particularly useful charms I’d employ would include Wingardium Leviosa, as lifting objects – any object whether it be a rock, a barrage of leaves, or even a person – is a handy diversion tactic and also takes little effort. Also, Impedimenta. The charm would provide valuable moments in which to orientate myself should the charm work as it is intended to work. The Point Me charm would be invaluable in a battle situation should I find myself lost, or confused, or unable to see. The added protection and use of a charm that acts as a compass would be a great comfort, and be used to excellent effect. 7. Defence Against the Dark Arts:My opponent was stronger and more experienced than I in duelling. While this would have proven a disadvantage for most other people, I was the more agile and had a need to prove myself in battle as a fighter, so I knew I could take her on – and potentially come out on top. My arsenal of spells was mostly defensive. Naturally, I had gravitated towards the defence, and to that effect I could tell almost instantly that my opponent was an offensive duelist. At first she threw the usual spells at me – the Jelly Legs, body-bind, Incarcerous, but eventually, as her spells continued to be thwarted by my defense, she began throwing dangerous and illegal curses and hexes. My main tactic was to avoid her wand-end and use what I had around me to shield me. To that end, I used Levitation charm after Levitation charm and Protego as my main source. As she began to tire, having exerted herself for far longer than was wise, I managed to hit her with one well-placed Expelliarmus, and she was down. 8. Divination: I see… a man. He’s tall, dark… exceedingly handsome. He walks out of the mist, and his face is set and determined. His locks sway in the slight breeze that parts the mist further, and I walk faster, my heart beating in my ears as we near each other. I know this man. The grass is green beneath my feet, and the dew dampens the hem of my dress. But I notice neither this, nor the cold that has turned my cheeks red. My eyes are locked on his. We meet, finally, and he stares at me with unfathomable, dark eyes that are captivating. “Mr Darcy,” I whisper. He takes me in his arms and embraces me. And then it all turns to fog once more. 9. Flying Lessons:The Keeper is perhaps the most stationary of the players, depending on how well the offensive of his team adds up. A crucial player in each Quidditch game, the Keeper protects the three goals at his end of the pitch from the opposing team’s chasers, who aim to circumvent the Keeper and gain points for their team. Ideally the Keeper prevents the Quaffle from entering his or her domain, thus preventing the Chasers of the opposing team from gaining any points – but that is only in an ideal world. A Keeper would employ evasive and also invasive maneuvers to get in the way of the Quaffle by blocking the hoops. The Seeker is the only player in a team with the ability to stop a game. By capturing the Snitch – the Seeker’s only task in a Quidditch game – the Seeker gains for their team 150 points and brings an end to the match. A Seeker is usually lithe and agile, able to maneuver their broom without trouble so as to keep up with the quick, elusive Snitch. The ideal Seeker is able to keep up not only with their opposing player, but also the Snitch with excellent reflexes, a good eye and an experienced instinct. 10. Herbology:Crataegus oxyacantha, Hawthorn wood, is one of the sacred trees of Wicca and Witchcraft – associated with Beltane (May Day) spring celebrations. The Hawthorn tree has long been associated fertility. Its blossoms are used to symbolise love and the union of couples in marriage. In the past, young women would eagerly await the first blossoms to appear on the Hawthorn tree, and when found after appropriate regard to the trees guardian spirit, a sprig of the blossom would be taken and kept as a charm to encourage the interest of a suitable husband. Care should be taken to give due regard to the tree before removing any of its branches. It is important not to damage the tree in case the guardian spirit becomes angered. Only parts from trees forming hedges should be taken. Particularly sacred to the fairies, where all three trees grow (Oak, Ash and Thorn) together it is said that one may see the fairies (The Hawthorn is often referred to by the phrase “by Oak, Ash, and Thorn” and is used as a blessing during ritual situations, or to affirm a charge of power in spell-craft. The Oak, Ash, and Thorn in folklore was associated with portals leading into the realm of the fairies, in which the Hawthorn with its connection to Cardea as the “hinge on the door” became the guardian and protector of the entrances to the Oak and Ash portals. Unless the Hawthorn allowed access to these doorways, the fairy realm remained unseen). On the dawn of May Day, men and women would bathe in the dew of the Hawthorn blossom to increase health, luck and beauty. Ages past, the tree was regarded as a powerful symbol of protection, and so was often planted near a house to protect it against lightning and damage from storms. Once, most Witches’ gardens contained at least one Hawthorn tree, which, as a guardian and protector of the entrances to the “Otherworld”, protected the house against evil spirits. The Hawthorn’s wood is an ideal medium for making talismans and wands, which can be used for protection, health and luck. It can even be used as a tool in rituals to enhance spiritual development and communication. If cutting a piece of live wood from a Hawthorn tree, be sure to do so with all due reverence and thanks to the tree’s guardian beforehand. Source: http://www.controverscial.com/Hawthorn.htm11. History of Magic:Godric Gryffindor differed in opinion from Salazar Slytherin - he believed that anyone who displayed magical ability should be allowed into Hogwarts and taught magic. Not only the most accomplished dueller of his time, Gryffindor was an enlightened fighter against Muggle-discrimination. While his true appearance is known to but a scarce few, Godric can be pictured as a large man with mane-like red hair, brilliantly green eyes and an imposing presence which exuded trust and courage. He was true to his lion symbol. Gryffindor was born in Godric’s Hollow, “From wild moor” which was incidentally named after him. He was a great man with a great tale to tell: but suffice it to say that Godric Gryffindor co-created a great, lasting institute for generations of wizards, leaving behind him a legacy of a thousand years, his ruby-encrusted sword and his hat. Sources: http://www.hplex.info/wizards/founders.html#Gryffindor12. Muggle Studies: The remembrall is a useful item in the Wizarding World – hold it in the palm of your hand, and if the mist turns scarlet, you have forgotten something. In the Muggle world, no such item exists and Muggles therefore have to rely on less apt means. For instance, the use of Post-it notes is commonplace as reminders set by Muggles in order for them to remember things they’d otherwise forget. They write it down on one of these small pieces of paper (often brightly coloured with a strip of adhesive on the back) which they attach in places they’re likely to spot it, which allows them to remember. 13. Potions: The Boil Cure Potion. This is a simple, easy potion which cures boils, and is taught to first year students. Ingredients include; dried nettles, snake fangs (crushed), horned slugs (stewed), and porcupine quills. When brewing the porcupine quills are added after the cauldron is taken off the fire. Side effects: if the porcupine quills are added before the cauldron is taken from the fire, the concoction will then produce a miasma of acid green smoke, emit a loud hiss, melt the cauldron – causing holes to be made in people’s shoes. If skin comes into contact with the substance, red boils appear. Source: http://www.hp-lexicon.org/magic/potions/potions-b.html#boil_cure_potion14. Supernatural and Paranormal Studies:It is difficult to explain, but when I was younger I had an imaginary friend. Of course, now I think of them as an imaginary friend. But back then… well, he was as real as I was, and he was my best friend. He was different to how I was. He had wider eyes, and they were a colour that was not like any of the colours my crayons were. They weren’t blue, or red, or green, not even pink, like my favourite crayon was – but something different all together. This was the most noticeable difference he had in comparison to the other boys in my class, well, if you didn’t count that fact that only I could see him. But I loved him nonetheless, and continued to after he left. I remember that day well, even now, even when my older opinions and logic tell me I was being silly, there was no invisible boy… but still. His name was Legs. I never found out why. But he could do weird things – weirder even than me, and I’m a witch who was particularly prone to accidental magic as a child. He once turned a rock into drop of water which held a lot more water than it should have, and poured it all down the back of my new pretty pink dress. I got into a lot of trouble for ‘lying’ that day, but I forgave him when he made a blade of grass sprout into the most beautiful vine of roses I’d ever seen – or would see. They still grow in my old backyard, years later. Legs went away when I was nine. He said that he had to return home, that he’d miss me and wished he didn’t have to go. I’m still sad about it, but life went on without him. I still look out the window, into the backyard, in the hope of seeing him there, playing with nothing as I used to see him do when I was a girl. But he hasn’t come back…yet. 15. Transfiguration:Transfiguration is a branch of magic which can save more than one life in a tricky situation. It can also take lives, which while less desirable a use for the art, is still one which must be acknowledged in times of strife. In Transfiguring missiles into harmless flower petals, or leaves, you can prevent much energy and horror in preventing injury and the necessity of using healing spells. Similarly, Transfiguration can be used to make something harmless into something dangerous.
