WaterLily’s Essay on Aliens

In this essay, I would like to concentrate mainly on the existence of aliens. Scientists have been organising SETI, the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence, for decades, ever since the last successful man into space expedition in 1969. We don’t know how we can find any aliens in space, apart from trying to communicate with them. What SETI has been trying to do recently is send out radio waves to those stars which may have planets orbiting them with life on them. We can know if stars have planets, because they move on their place slightly because of the centrifugal forces acting on them. We emit radio waves in a set pattern to the area around these stars so that if any aliens reside on these planets, then they would be able to send back radio waves. The only problem with this is that most of these stars are hundreds, thousands of light years away. Therefore, it would take double the time to get even one message back, and physically visiting them would be next to impossible. Also, some galaxies are moving further away from us because of Red Shift. Therefore, it would take even longer to get a reply from these galaxies. Therefore, we cannot know for sure if aliens truly exist unless they land on Earth.

This is what has rumoured to have happened in Area 51 in America. However, I find this hard to believe and because the word ‘alien’ can also mean ‘illegal immigrant’, this is what I think is going on in Area 51. I think that the images and photos of ‘aliens’ are probably fake, as any amount of special effects can produce such images.

In conclusion, we can never really know whether aliens exist, where they come from, what they look like or what they think of us. There is not a shred of evidence to suggest they exist, so personally, I cannot believe in them.
