ANICIENT RUNES CLASS VACANCY

LilyFlower is stepping down as professor for the Ancient Runes Class, which leaves an opening for the position.

If you would like to apply for the position, please do so below.

* You must be at least second year to apply
* You must be prepared to create and grade classes regularly
* You must have a fair head, i.e: you must be able to grade fairly no matter what house you belong to.
* You must have good knowledge of the rules and running of the site and keep to these rules at all time. Professor jobs cannot be given to members who break the rules as they are here for the safety and fun of everyone.

I would like to apply for this position because I feel I am a (over) qualified for this position. And thats a good thing, right? haha. Well, I pratcally memorized the elder funthark rune alphabet, and I know a lot about the runes. I feel I could add some fun twists to the class, and make people want to take my classes.

Class Idea:
Name: History of the Runes
Class: Credit to olly havelock for sugesting this class.
For this class, I want you to write an essay on the history of the runes. How did they come to be? What were they used for? Who could use them, and read them? This essay should be between 700 to 1000 words, no less than that, and please try not to go too many more than 1000. This class, since I want it to be a bit in depth, will be worth 100 points.
Some things to remember:
1. I do check spelling. Thats what spell check is for,. If its a really hard word, I will accept it, but little words should be right. Only 2-3 mistakes per paper will be tolerated.
2. Try and use correct grammer, and no run on sentences!

Class: In this class, i would like you to spell out the resolution to a problem in runes. You may use any of the many runic alaphabets, but please tell me which one you used. Worth 50 points.
Name: Rune Puzzle
Class: I will make a rune puzzle for each week, and to complete the class, you must use the Elder Funkharth runes to find out what the puxxle says. Easy class, worth 30 points.
Discussion: How do you think runes came to be?
Class: Do you really think that Odin hung from a tree and these runes came to be? Or do you think they were invented by someone with too much time on their hands? Discuss this here. Worth up to 50 housepoints

Ancient Runes application

Of course there is the reasons mentioned for the Arts, Drama and Creative writing class but the reason I want this position is because I feel I have a lot to offer as a professor. I’m extremely active upon the site and hardworking as shown by the vast amount of tasks I have completed this term. Over 100. This also gives me a lot of experience with the way the classes work not to mention I was a member on the site when we had the first skin which means I know exactly how the site runs and works. With that I feel I would be quite good at marking and not just based on what house people are in I will try to give marks based on how I feel. For Judo I got my referring award and one of the comments I got back was that I was very strict about the scores I gave out for certain throws showing that I would not just hand out house points for nothing.
With knowing the way the site runs and being very active that means that I will be able to create and mark the work I have set quite easily with me being active. One advantage I have with this subject is that I was a prefect helper and set a task for Ancient Runes which proved to have quite a few people become involved. If I became the professor for Ancient Runes I would hope to bring some life back to the subject as it has been pretty much abandoned with lilyflowers inactiveness and the lack of new essays being put up. Hopefully I would be able to change that and add something different to ancient runes. As far back as I can remember lilyflower has always taken the subject and perhaps a breath of fresh air (me XD) would mean new activeness for the subject.
The main thing I would work on as an ancient runes professor would be to make it fun for everyone as many people upon seeing that subject and some of the subject titles think they look quite boring and pass over them to something more exciting.
This is also the second time I have attempted to apply for this class as last time the electricity died within the town and we had a black out for 15 minutes. This shows that I am dedicated not only to the site but to the subject as I have re-wrote all that was written above to apply for the subject. Which also shows you how determined I am to get the position XD hehe.
In conclusion if I am chosen to be the Ancient Runes professor I hope to bring life back to the subject and make it fun and exciting again.

Ancient Runes Application

Ancient Runes has always been one of my favorite classes on HE, and when the OWLs opened, it was the first one I decided to try and finish. I previously held a teaching job, so I know what being a professor entails. I was very meticulous about grading my students’ work, and although tempted, I would not give breaks to friends or housemates. Ancient Runes is, as far as we know, a rather mysterious course, and I’ve always enjoyed a good mystery. Through my classes I would make the uses of Ancient Runes more well-known, while making sure my students really thought about it, and didn’t just do the class thinking it would only take a short amount of time. In conclusion, I want to make the students of HE smarter, and thus, use them in my army to take over the world—er, ignore that last part

Introduction to Bindrunes:

Runes have many more uses than you may realize, let’s take a look into a rather interesting one…

1) What are practical bindrunes? How are they used? (5)

2) What are personal bindrunes? How are they used? (5)

3) What would you choose to have inscribed with a practical bindrune (in English)? Why would you choose this? (10)

4) What would you choose to have inscribed with a personal bindrune (in English)? Why would you choose this? (10)

5) What runes would you use to inscribe the objects you chose in questions 3 and 4. Describe how the runes you chose enforce their purpose. (15)

Bonus: Create a graphic showing the object or objects you chose inscribed with the runes you chose. 10 points will be awarded bonus per graphic.

The Basics of Rune Casting

Runes can be used to try and divine futures, let’s look into how it’s done…

1) What are the five different types of runecasting? Write a short sentence about what each is the best at detailing. (10)

2) What kind of light helps the most with runecasting? Why do you think this is? (2)

3) What should your state of mind be during a runecasting? Why do you think this is? (3)

4) Is it necessary to open a runecasting with ceremony? Whether or not it is, write a short incantation (doesn’t have to be more than five lines) that you would use to begin a runecasting (5)

5) Describe what the layout and directions of the field upon which you cast represents. (10)

6) How is a bag generally used in runecasting? Which hand would you use when dealing with the bag? (3)

7) Is there any method for drawing a rune out of the bag? (2)

8) How should the runes be drawn out from the bag and placed on the field? Is this and the orientation of the way the runes are placed on the field significant in any way? (5)

9) How should you place the runes on the field? (5)

10) Write a short account of you performing a runecasting, using all of the information from above. Minimum of 200 words. (20 points)
