| The Luna Lovegood Approach
We all know about the magical creatures of the wizarding world – just flick through “Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them” for all the info, right?
Wrong. For this class, we’re going to take the Luna Lovegood approach, and the task is to write three entries for a new publication “Lovegood’s Almanac of Unusual Creatures”.
Write about three different unusual magical creatures of your own invention. Remember to make them as wildly unbelievable as Luna’s Crumple-Horned Snorcacks and Nargles.
Each creature’s description should be at least 150 words long.
Points: 25 points per creature description 5 points per creature if a picture is provided 10 points for SPAG/QWC
Good Luck!

| SparkeldeanWhat! You haven't heard of the sparkeldean?! I though everyone knew about the Sparkeldean! Well, I guess I'd better tell you! The Sparkeldean is an extremely geedy creature. It likes to steel jewelery that you have around the house. Because it's body looks like a mis-shaped diamond it is not easily recognizable. However, you can see when it is lurking around your jewelary box when you noticed a sound that sounds like *sheeeen*, or it moves. Once the Sparkeldean gets into your house and finds your valueble possessions it's very hard to get out. They are stubborn and have an adhesive at the end of their claws to help them stick to things. However, you'll want to get them out quickly because they will start to eat your shiny possessions. If you want to get them out you need to put an old drawer on the floor and place in some fake jewels but wash them so that they're extra shiny. Leave the room, and wait a few days and the Sparkeldean will have made a nest in the drawer. Then, just throw the drawer out. There is another way, but it is less common due to the fact that it is hard to get a hold of Sparkeldean repellant. You can of course buy it via mail order from the Quibbler, but it's rather expensive. You should be quick when removing your Sparkeldean because once they build a nest they start to multiply. There eggs look like links from a golden chain and then they turn into maggot - like creatures that closely resemble minitature rubies in cut and color. There maggots eat anything that looks or feels like silk so be careful! Here's a picture so you know what to look for! ElectrawormWizards don't have too much to worry about with this creature. They like electronics... and many wizards don't even know what that is. But muggles do need to watch out. These little creatures will live right inside the cords leading to anything and everything electronic. This can turn into a problem when they start to eat the wiring inside. The muggles then take it upon themselves to call an electrician which is obviously stumped at whats causing the problem. Usually it ends with the electrician finding the worm and trying to throw it out, but then the worms bites it (which is extremely painfl, due to the razor sharp teeth.) After the bite, they go to a muggle hospital because it turns a horrible brown color and starts sparking. Luckily, we have witches and wizards stationed at said hospitals and they transport them to St. Mungos, where they have there injury taken care of and memory's modified. The Electraworm lives in suburban muggle areas in Europe, specifically England and Ireland. These creature's rarely die, and when they do it's because there is an infestation and the Ministry of Magic is called in. | |

| The Luna Lovegood Approach
Creature #1
The Nooglewoop
The Nooglewoop is a terrifying creature that haunts the grounds of large buildings. If a Nooglewoop gets a bite of you it is possible that the Noooglewoop could haunt you for the rest of your life. Unlike a ‘ghost’ which is just a stupid Nooglewoop the Nooglewoop can enter your dreams. Once inside them it can turn them all into nightmares haunting you even in your slumber. The only way to get rid of a Nooglewoop because it wouldn’t be nice to kill them is either run away as fast as you can from the place they are in. Or befriend them and make them see that its not nice to haunt people. Though the second task is one that many people will find hard. The ministry of Magic did not recognize Nooglewoops as a magical creature because the Nooglewoops is invisible to those that do not believe in it. Though I know for a certain fact that many of the ministry workers are being haunted by them.
My advice to you is be careful a Nooglewoop could be in the same room as you now. (186)
Creature #2
The Nimpsey
The Nimpsey a creature normally befriended by the younger generation. A small timid bright blue creature finds its comfort in friends. Liking to sleep in doors many families will see these small critters as pests when in actual fact the most harm they could do you be to scratch you and then you might get Nimpsey pops and turn blue. Though if you nice to them that won’t happen. Though I’m sure many people wouldn’t mind turning blue as blue is a nice colour. The Nimpsey looks slightly like a pixie though said before their blue. Usually found alone these small little pixie like creatures are starting to die out. Again the stupid ministry choices to ignore the fact that the Nimpsey’s need saving and continue with idiotic things like banning werewolf hunting. Though werewolf hunting should be banned the safety of the Nimsey is much more important.
So please next time a Nimsey curles up near your young don’t pick them up and throw them out. Give them some milk. They like that! (174)
Creature#3
The Archil
Possibly the most dangerous creature know to Wizarding kind it has two large tusks that come out the top of its head and large fangs dripping with poison. Upon the touch of these fangs you will die. Though the Archil is dangerous and should not be approached unless you know what your doing its pink fur contains many properties that can be used to make nopsey medicine. Though the yellow splodges that sit upon the pink fur are something that every potion creator dreams of getting their hands on. Though this incredibly fast and dangerous animal the only way to get these things is if its dead. Many great wizards have died trying to pluck a few hairs from the Archil’s back. The Archil lives on small hot island’s so if your going on holiday beware. And don’t pet it because it looks cute and pink it will lure you into a false pretence before poof it eats you. Though yet again the knowledge of the Archil has been ignored by the ministry so my warning to you is don’t go on holiday in pretty hot island’s. (187)

Each creature’s description should be at least 150 words long.
Antlered Zazza Four Snorkack Horns* Lives in Barbados
A purple and white furred yak-like creature, the Antlered Zazza gets its name, of course, from the two 10 inch long, 1 inch diameter antlers atop its head. They are metallic purple in color, and covered with white spots.
While some may believe that these extremely docile creatures do not exist, there is a bountiful amount of evidence to prove otherwise. Just ask the people who live near it’s habitat of underwater Barbados. When their antlers-which will be elaborated on later-“shed”, muggles suspect them to be wonderful coral, and collect them. The Zazza will also typically eat seahorses and seashells. They help to keep its famous coat especially glossy. It should be noted that making a coat from the Zazza is a horrible idea, as it will cause intense itchiness.
Their antlers are incredibly magical, and will often fall off once every few weeks. These antlers are then picked up, and typically used as decoration in households, wizard and muggle alike. Muggles, thankfully, simply pass them off as Caribbean coral. It should be noted, however, that the antlers, as stated above, do have magical properties. When hung as a decoration, which they commonly are, they will enhance the amount of coughs and colds the members of the household will get, specifically the elderly. Although seldom done, when wrapped in a piece of violet velvet and worn as an adornment in your hat, the antler will help you find many new friends. If ingested, specifically in a tea, the drinker will experience a growth spurt of at most, two inches.
Yappy Bebill Two Snorkack Horns* Lives in Wales
Resembling a cat in all ways but one, the Yappy Bebill is a fairly common household pet for muggles and wizards alike. And what’s the one difference? When it thinks no one is looking, the Yappy Bebill’s fur-which never sheds-will turn black, and an x-ray of its skeleton will show up, as if a design, on its body. This was once used as a defense mechanism when it had to fight off predators like the Blubbering Humdinger (see page 8). They would see the x-ray, and assume the animal’s bones had already been picked clean. Whenever they are caught in this form, their ears will lie flat on their heads, and release magic to make the person who saw them think they were merely imagining things. (How is this known? By using a bit of Nargle fur, but turn to page 56 for more on that.) Since this has worked so well as a method of hiding themselves, there are no attempts to keep them from living with muggles. The queen herself has a Yappy Bebill.
There isn’t much of the Yappy Bebill that can be used in potions except their whiskers, which can arouse excitement if ground into food. Minister candidates have been known to do this to get people excited during their campaign speeches. Their namesake cry, however, can be the most helpful. It is used to attract illusive unicorns out of their various hiding places.
Cryoxeno 5 Snorkack Horns* Lives in Denmark
A winged elephant-like creature, the Cryoxeno rules the skies above Denmark. At its trunk, it’s purple, but this color fades to green about halfway across the creature’s middle, and by the tip of its tail it becomes a dark forest green. Its undulating cry resembles thunder, and many people are ofen confused as to why rain doesn’t fall soon after the cry is heard. Some wizards are afraid that the Cryoxeno is allowed too close to muggles. But what they should realize is that the reason why so few muggle Cryoxeno sightings have been recorded is because the Cryoxeno enjoys forming itself into cloud shapes. In fact, it will spend about 90% of the time this way.
They rarely will land-about five times a day-but when they do, these ten foot long creatures will nest in the tops of high mountain peaks, remaining above the clouds even when they’re not flying. It is when they land that they will generally feed. The Cryoxens food of choice is snow and insects. It generally takes about two hours for the Cryoxen to completely satisfy its hunger.
When threatened, the Cryoxen’s main method of defense are its razor sharp claws, which are about one foot long when fully extended.
Snorkack Horn Rating System*: This tells you just how rare the creature is, the more Snorkack horns, the more rare it is

| Ravenoleous (Pronounced: Rave•en•ol•Lee•Us)
The Ravenoleous is a bird that is as big as a blue jay but it is covered in a dark purple fur instead of the blue feathers of a blue jay. Its beak is about two inches long and is of a green color. The Ravenoleous has a magical property in its fur that allows it to fly but if it is to fly too close to a muggle the muggle will start to act crazy and start to shout out and scream and unless the Ravenoleous is killed the muggle will continue to act crazy until death. All the Ravenoleous needs to do is to come into contact with a muggle for a short period of time to infect them. They infect muggles by either touching them or spitting them. There is a team of wizards who call themselves the Rave Exterminators and they go around killing the Ravenoleous. The Ravenoleous is invisible to the muggle eye but wizards can see it.
[b]Hyprocondro (Pronounced: High• Poe•Con•Dro)
Hyprocondro lives in south America where its lives off of the many fruits and vegetables there. They do not eat any meat unless they have been starved for months. Hyprocondro looks just like an ant but it is blue and it have seventeen legs protruding from all over their bodies. When they have been starving for about three months then they are known to grow to the size of a hippopotamus and they go on a hunger rampage. Whatever they run into they will eat and if there isn’t anything to eat they will consume the dirt on the ground. The Hyprocondro is usually known as a kind animal and can be found in many magical zoos. They are sold as pets but they are not recommended to children who will forget to feed it or one day when the family comes back from a trip the house might be gone.
[b]Walemousee (Pornounced: Wall• E• Mose•E)
The Walemousee is an aquatic animal that lives in the deepest part of the sea. They hate light and if they come into contact with any form of light they will slowly start to shrink until they are no bigger than krill but as soon as there is no more light present the Walemousee will expand back into it’s huge size; bigger than a whale. The Walemousee is only bigger than a whale by one hundred feet and they are the same color as the dark waters that surround them which makes it very difficult to spot one. The Walemousee has the rare ability to turn invisible if they wanted to and they use this ability when they are out hunting for their next meal. They do not like wizards and if they sense any kind of magic nearby they will either attack or flee but most of the time they attack by trying to eat whatever they detect is giving off magic. | |
