| Emmalynn walked to the egde of the pool and stepped up onto the diving block. She thought, Swimmer take your mark... Go!, before she dove into the water. She started out with butterfly stroke, deciding to do a 100 IM. She dolphin kicked until she broke the surface, at which point, she stroked with her arms, creating the illusion that she was a butterfly. When Emmalynn reached the wall on the other side of the pool, she two-hand touched the wall and pushed off, going into backstroke. She broke the surface and took her time with her strokes, taking advantage of the time she had to breathe freely. As she saw the colored flags pass through her line of vision, she counted her strokes until she reached five before she turned onto her stomach and did a flip turn, pushing off into her third lap: breast stroke. Emmalynn did two underwater pullouts before surfacing and starting her strokes. Breast stroke was another semi-relaxing stroke that Emmalynn liked to do when she was running low on stamina. She made it to the wall and did another two-hand touch before pushing off and sprinting freestyle to finish her last lap. She approached the wall and used up the rest of her energy in an all-out finish. Gasping for air, Emmalynn smiled as she looked at the clock on the wall of the pool deck. A new personal best: 1:01:18. ((I wasn't exactly sure what you ment by "moves" so I just bolded swimming terms I use during meets...)) Rules of the Water:
- Do not run on the pool deck. Floor is wet and slippery.
- Do not dive in the shallow end of the pool. Will result in injuries to head and/or hands.
- Listen to the life guards. Your safety is their first concern.
- Please do not wear shirts in the pool. There is a white shirt drill designed to keep our life guards alert and wearing shirts will confuse them.
In the case of someone drowning, and there were no life guards present or life guards were not acting fast enough, I would:
- Call for help
- Swim to the drowning victim and get their head above water
- Tell them to be calm
- Put them on their back and keep them still
- Call for help again
- Float them over to the wall in the shallow end of the pool
- Lift or push the victim out of the pool
- If no one has come yet, start the ABC's (Open the Airway, check Breathing, check Circulation.)
- Tell someone to call 911
((Well, I hope that's what I was supposed to do...))

| Bella walked nervously to the starting block. She mounted the blocks preparing for her 200m Indervidual Medly (the pool has magically expanded into a 50m pool since Emmalyns swim). ''Mark, Go!'', The starting mashal called. Bella dove into the cool water and Streamline Kicked for about 5m before breaking the surface. This was when she began the 50m of Butterfly. For Bella, this was the hardest part of the IM as she always had trouble keeping her arms straight above the water and getting her head down in time. Butterfly is also the most tiring stroke and usually, Bella did well in this stroke, but was tired and lost her lead in the other strokes. Not today though. Bella had downed 3 cans of red bull about half an hour before the race so she was flying! Bella reached the wall and touched with two hands before pushing off onto her back for Backstroke. She streamline Kicked again, on her back this time before coming up and begining her strokes. Backstroke was easily Bella best and faverouite stroke, but she was always getting in trouble for useing backstroke to relax after a tiring Butterfly in her IM's. Bella concentrated on keeping her speed consistant and reached the flags in no time. She counted her strokes and once completing four she leaned back and touched the wall with one hand before pushing off onto her stomach. Right,Breaststroke, Bella roaned as she began her pullout. Bella hated Breaststroke, she could never bring her legs up in time with her arms and was frequently told how awful her stroke was. Luckily, she was flying along today and again touched the wall with two hands and streamline kicking before she sprinted the freestyle. Bella kept her breathing steady and finish well. Bella looked up at the board and saw her new Personal Best: 2:47:84.
Water safety Rules These are just the rules on the big sign at my swim club! No running No pushing No bombing No spitting No glass alowedving No pets Only swimwear is allowed to be worn in pool
In the case of drowning I would:
Call for help before diving in with kickboard or some other flotation device. Swim up to drowning person esume a defensive position (drowning people tend to grab others and push them down in an attempt to hoist themselves up) and tell them to calm down. Tell them I am going to pass them a kickboard and they should grab onto it. Pass the flotation device towards them and tow them to shore.
::Yeah, I just did the same as Emmalyn::
::Emmalyn! Do you really do a 1:01 for 100 IM???? I do a good 200m time but a really crappy 100m time!::

| Elladora put on her swim cap and somehow managed to stuff all of her hair into it. She carefully put on her goggles, making sure to tighten them. She pulled on her cap a bit before diving into the water. She kept streamline position as she dolphin kicked as far through the water and she could go. She came up with a butterfly stroke. At each catch of a stroke, she allowed herself to glide a bit before using a strong kick to go into the next stroke. At the wall, she allowed herself a resting 25 with breaststroke. Pushing off the wall after a quick two-hand touch, she did an underwater pullout complete with dolphin kick. She broke the surface of the water with a pull and breath, then she kicked and rested through the glide. She continued the same repetition of moves until she hit the wall. Another two-hand touch, and she set off to sprint her last 50 freestyle. Off the wall, Elladora went out streamline with 6 dolphin kicks before surfacing. She didn't breathe when she broke the surface, but instead started her pulls as quickly as she could. Breathing twice, she flip turned at the wall, pushing off streamline again with another few dolphin kicks. She started her flutter kick a bit earlier and pulled as quickly as she could the rest of the way to the wall before her last solid touch. General Pool Rules:
- No running.
- No diving in the shallow end
- No floating on the balls
- Lifeguards have full authority
- No snorkels of facemasks unless you are lap swimming
In the case of a drowning, one should:
- Call for help and have someone call 911 (or the emergency number in the area).
Assess the situation to see if the victim is unconscious or conscious, above or below water.
- Safely get the victim's head out of the water in a postition that will put little to no stress on the head, neck, or spine.
- If the victim is conscious, you should tell them to be calm and to take slow steady breaths.
- If the victim is unconscious, you should keep them in a natural position and get them near a wall, preferably in shallow water (unless lane lines are in the way).
- If you are capable of doing so, get the victim out of the water safely.
- If not, continue to keep them in a natural position with their nose and mouth out of the water.
- If the victim is safely out of the water and unconscious, monitor the Airway, Breathing, and Circulation.
- Have a trained professional take over as soon as possible.

| Katie steps up to the edge of the pool with her toes curled over the edge. Getting into the proper diving position with her arms extended over her head, Katie dives into the water. Gliding as far as she can with her arms and legs extended to keep maximum momentum, Katie moves quickly through the water. For her first stroke, Katie decides to do the breaststroke. She keeps her torso straight and keeps her arms moving one after the other, swiping the water while her feet perform a simple flutter kick. Once she reaches the wall, she does a quick flip turn by flipping underwater and kicking off with her legs. She stays on her back to begin a backstroke using the same techniques as her first stroke. After doing this the whole length of the pool, Katie decides to do a back double trudgen using a scissor kick. After again peforming a flip turn, she decides to end strong on her practice with the butterfly stroke, her most challenging stroke. Upon touching the wall again at the deep end, Katie treads water and waits for the other girls to do a practice run as well.
Pool Rules: -No running on deck -Dive only in designated areas (off the diving blocks or deep end) -A lifeguard must be on duty at all times to enter the pool -Appropiate swimwear must be worn at all times -No food or drinks should be brought in the water -Public swimmers should stay on one half—do not enter the lap pool section
Protocal if Someone is Drowning: -First call for help -Swim quickly over to the victim -Get their head above water and check to see if conscious -If conscious, tell victim to stay calm and take deep breaths -If unconscious, it’s important to keep victim in a position where their head and neck won’t be injured but is also out of the water -Call for help again -Swim victim over to a wall (shallow end is best) and if possible, get victim out of water safely without injuring head or neck -If you’re unable to do so, keep their head and nose out of water and wait for a professional or help from otheres -Once victim is out of the water, perform standard CPR to check for blocked airway and keep oxygen flowing in body -A professional medical personnel should take over as soon as possible
