Drabble Challenge: Elation

The challenge here is simple: write a drabble using the prompt given. A drabble is a short, self-contained fiction, which should ideally be exactly 100 words long.

Albus was walking down the path that led to the front table. He was extremely nervous, all because of his brother James. James kept on saying that he might be put in Slytherin. Even though his father had told him that he could choose, he still worried. When it was his turn to be sorted, he put the hat on his head and waited. Albus heard the voice in his head, “You would do great in Slytherin...you would have immense power”. But Albus kept thinking Gryffindor, Gryffindor. When the hat yelled out the house he was hoping, pleading for, he was elated. He ran to the Gryffindor table.

Jamie walked around the rrom at that minute he heard a noise that made him elated,
he was waiting for someone to meet him, who he didn't know but he liked surprises,
"not long now!" he whispered to himself rather too loudly looking a his watch
someones foot darted arounds the corner,
"oh no!" he said loudly as Snape came around the corner
"what re you doing here Mr. Carton?" he asked sternly
"nothing sir, just going for a walk, to help me sleep.."
"somehow, i don't belive you," Snape cut through his sentance

Natalie sat in her own non-magical house in the month of July, doing her homework that she had got at Hogwarts. How she missed her friends...Jamie, Holly, Shadow, Eliza and Hayley. She wished they could be here.
She had just taken out her History of magic essay that she wanted to re-check. It was about a girl who, at the age of twelve, had gone to battle with her companions, ages varying to her own, and had come back with a bloody scar on her neck. This essay was based on truth, of course. This made her feel very elated

The little red-headed girl sat on the window seat in the empty kitchen.

“Why not have a waffle while you wait, darling,” suggested Ginny, standing up.

“I’m not hungry,” replied the daughter, not taking her eyes of the horizon.

“I am.” said James as he strolled into the room. “Are you waiting for the letter again?” he added with a look at his sister.

“James – “ started Ginny, but she was cut off by a scream.

“It’s here!” said Lily taking the envelope addressed to her. She opened it, and her heart jumped when she read, ‘I am pleased to inform you…’

Today had its lows and Supreme highs. we had to clean out the drawing room today now Moody has removed the Boggart. That was unpleasant, let me tell you. Kreacher kept trying to take Black family Herilooms from the bin bag and hide them away, but Sirius was a bit harsh on him. A couple of time sI had to prevent Sirius from aiming a kick at the poor thing.. There was books we couldn’t purchase anywhere, and Sirius saw my face light up with Elation and said I could take any book I wanted. I hugged him and came up to write this. Night

Filled with nervous anticipation, I bent forward to turn on the radio. My foot was still tapping like mad, but now it was jarring against a melody. Edward had said he needed just a few moments, but I felt odd, parked outside while he was talking to my father. I suppose I could have sneaked in, but no doubt Edward would have heard me. Better to wait here, though the suspense might just kill me...

Then I saw him through the misty green-grey light. I stumbled out and into his embrace, feeling him smile against my ear as he whispered, "Bella? He said yes. Where should we have the wedding?"

“Elation. E-L-A-T-I-O-N. Elation,” said Hermione Granger.

“Correct. Congratulations Miss Granger,” the head judge said. Hermione beamed as she accepted her trophy.

“Two years in a row, eh?” her father said with a grin stretching ear-to-ear.

“Soon all the good schools will be beating down our door to have you,” Mrs. Granger commented.

About five in the evening, they got home. As they were closing the doors to the car, a woman appeared, almost out of thin air. She wanted to speak with the Grangers about an education opportunity for Hermione.

By the time Professor McGonagall had left the stunned family, Hermione realized she’d never known what elation meant until then.


(I had the same struggle as Streams. My first draft was about 170 words. I'm not very happy with the 110 word version)

"I'm just six. How am I supposed to do this?" That thought played inside my head as I walked towards the broom cupboard.

My brothers never let me play Quidditch with them because I was a girl. I wanted to prove that I was better than what they thought, so I deleted those thoughts of hesitation.

I got in and grabbed Percy's broom (it was the cleanest looking one) and ran off to the place hidden behind the trees, the place where they played their games.

I mounted and then, a rush of air was all that I felt. The view was better from above. I was flying. Literally.

Voldemort sat down, he had been under much stress lately, he was about to rule the wizarding world, only to find that a mere child would stand in his way. He would also need to find the child; and he didn't know much. He knew their parents were James and Lilly Potter, but they found out he was after them and went into hiding, ruining his plans. "My lord" said one of his followers. "We have found the secret keeper for the Potters, should I send him in?" he asked. Voldemort knodded, and the man went in and told him everything. "Excellent..." said Voldemort, who left immediatly to kill them.

“Happy Birthday, Luna!” an exited voice rang in Luna’s ears.
“Wow! Thanks, Hermione,” Luna smiled pleasing at Hermione, who handed her a large box, wrapped in light blue and a Ravenclaw ribbon. No one knew how elated Luna felt right now. Hermione even remembered that she loved Ravenclaw so much!
“It was nothing, Luna. Anyways, thanks for inviting me,” Hermione replied about a minute or so later.
“Hey, Luna, Happy Birthday,” Harry walked in the room and handed her a shiny wrapped present.
“Thank you, Harry,” Luna felt even happier. This was going to be elating day for Luna.
