| Caring for Your Magical Creature
This assignment is all about creativity. I’d like you to create a leaflet on how to care for a magical creature. Choose a creature from the list below, and write a leaflet aimed at the everyday witch or wizard, covering the following sections:
• A description of the creature • A profile of the creature, detailing it’s sleeping patterns, eating habits, comfort requirements, and anything else you deem necessary • A detailed section on how to care for the creature. What are its needs? If the animal is dangerous, how to keep yourself safe? Is there any special equipment you’d need to keep this creature? • A list of five do’s and five don’ts with regards to looking after the creature • A picture
You may choose to create the leaflet using a picture editing programme, but if you do not have the capabilities for this, text will be fine. A site like the lexicon will have some information on the creature you choose, but it will not be extensive. A part of this assignment is your creativity; therefore create your own information about the creature.
The leaflet must be at least 500 words long.
Choose a creature from the list below:
• Hippogriff • Pygmy Puff • Niffler • Blast Ended-Skrewt • Kneazle • Jarvey • Flobberworm • Phoenix
Total available house points: 100
Remember to cite your sources (website used), and no copy and pasting!

| Here it is! I did it in Paint so it is as good as I can get it... It's a bit small so here's the text that it on it: Proper Care of Your Phoenix A Beginner’s Guide by Newt Scamander Identifying a Phoenix A Phoenix is a large, swan-sized bird with a vivid red and golden plumage, and a golden beak and talons. The average phoenix has a height of two feet and a wingspan of three feet. Phoenixes are also recognised by their eye colour, a unique, deep rich brown with flecks of ruby red and gold. Phoenix Habits and Needs Phoenixes sleep every week for seven hours – one hour each day. For sleeping, it needs a soft, velvet perch that must be exactly twenty inches wide and five feet tall. Phoenixes are vegetarians, in a manner of speaking. They eat petals of pure, warm coloured flowers. Flowers of colours such as reds, oranges, yellows, etc are acceptable as main meals; pink and purple can be given as treats; blues are only to be given while the phoenix is less than three weeks old. They cannot eat magical plants as it gives them stomach upset. The petals must me soft and moist, not dried. Because phoenixes are immortal birds, and they are reborn from their ashes, they need a wide, fireproof dish where they can burn and then stay while they are still too small to stay on the perch. They also need to have a constant supply of nectar, which is what they drink whenever they feel thirsty, within reach of the perch. Powers of a Phoenix It is common knowledge that phoenix tears have healing powers. The phoenix will shed its tears for those who are pure of heart, but are injured. Phoenix tears can also bring someone back from the brink of death. Phoenixes are also incredibly strong and can carry more than twenty five times their own weight. It is also known that phoenixes are the creatures that introduced to us, the idea of Apparition. They can travel to whomever needs them with a flash of light, they can carry messages in seconds and carry away people in this method of “flashing” from place to place. Do’s and Don’ts Always make sure your phoenix has enough rest. Make sure you give your phoenix enough nutrition. Talk to your phoenix, they are intelligent creatures. Allow your phoenix to sing to you, it will calm you. Make sure your phoenix is comfortable on its perch. Never force your phoenix to do anything. Never try and bond yourself to a phoenix. It will come to you. Never be rude or insult the phoenix. Never feed your phoenix magical plants. Never abandon your phoenix. I hope that this leaflet has been useful in learning how to take care of your phoenix. You must remember that phoenixes are extremely rare and cannot be bought. They are not dangerous unless they or any other person pure of heart is being endangered. If a phoenix bonds itself to you, it is for life. Phoenixes are trusted, loyal and intelligent companions. Not pets. Do not take your phoenix for granted. Good luck with your phoenix! | |

| Hippogriff Description A winged horse with the head and claws of an eagle. (The head, wings and front legs of a griffin, and the back legs of a horse.) Features An elusive creature that can fly long distances at high altitudes. From the Riphaean mountains. Also called Simoorgh or Simurgh or Senmurv - the Persian version, sometimes featured as a cross between a dog or lion and a huge bird. Described By: Epic poems of Saadi and Ferdusi. (Link: Milton- "So saying he caught him up, and without wing Of hippogrif, bore through the air sublime Over the wilderness and o'er the plain." ( Paradise Regained) Thomas Bulfinch- "Like a griffin, he had the head of an eagle, claws armed with talons, and wings covered with feathers, the rest of his body being that of a horse. This strange animal is called a Hippogriff." (Legends of Charlemagne) Meaning Griffins and horses were supposed to be mortal enemies. The Hippogriff symbolizes an impossible thing. There is an old expression "Jungentur jam grypes equis" which means "To cross griffons with horses", indicating an impossible scenario. | |

| (Im using this insert image for picture so if it doesnt stay let me know and ill put it up again (i dont want to loose points lol) Page 1 What is a Phoenix?A phoenix is a magically special creature that requires a great deal of affection. It is commonly of swan-sized with a red and gold plumage, a golden beak and golden talons (yet colouring may differ slightly in individual phoenix’) The phoenix is universally known as a gentle and loving creature and extremely loyal to its owners and those who bestow upon its happiness. The Phoenix in DetailLike humans, phoenix’ adhere to certain rituals which must be observed if the phoenix is to be kept happy. Unlike humans, though, the phoenix needs a little amount of sleep and generally prefers to doze whilst in a safe environment. A small perch with sawdust and featherings would keep your phoenix content. The phoenix will generally doze in the day, though it will in the main sleep for approximately 2 to 5 hours a night, dependant upon its age. Phoenix’s are fussy eaters. Only the best food will suffice! They are typically vegetarian, and many are partial to the delicacies of chocolate covered raisins, though be aware that too much chocolate could cause infections. Also please be aware, that phoenix’ under a week old can not digest solid food. A magical blender will be perfect when preparing the food for your phoenix. Generally, the phoenix will eat up to three times a day, though they are partial to snacking throughout the day upon small rose flowered elegance Page 2 Important InformationPhoenix’ possesses the ability of healing to those who are loyal to them. Their tears hold the magical healing power in which can heal even the most deadly of cuts, though please do not be mistaken. Nothing can bring back the dead. A phoenix can never heal the dead, only the dying. The phoenix also possesses incredible strength and will aid those who are loyal to them from difficulties ranging from simple to deadly. These creatures have a warm and caring heart and will put themselves before any wand or blade rather than see those they love get hurt. Special EquipmentThe phoenix is most comfortable upon their own perch, yet please remember, a phoenix is a free spirit. They do not belong in a cage. More often than not, they will be quite content sitting upon your shoulder, nibbling upon your ear. Page 3 Remember;* Do pay your phoenix attention. Without the care and attention your phoenix deserves they may die of a lonely and broken heart. * Do keep you phoenix warm, especially around burning day. * Always be loyal to your phoenix and in return they will give you everything * Do allow your phoenix freedom. They dislike enclosed spaces which will make them miserable. * Do keep a close watch upon your phoenix. Underweight phoenix’ could point to miserable phoenix’ * Don’t leave your phoenix alone for too long, phoenix’ need company in order to thrive * Don’t ever try to force meat upon your phoenix. They will not be able to digest it * Don’t forget to regularly clean your phoenix’ bedding area * Don’t force your phoenix to show affection towards you – it will come naturally * Don’t overfeed your phoenix – it will not thank you for it! | |

| ~For Sale: A Box of adorable blast ended skrewts. Just newly bred. Needs a home from a loving family. Will send immediate upon request. Last note: PLEASE TAKE THEM!!!~ A overview of how dange…adorable these animals can be... Description: Blasted End Skrewts are very loving creatures that have just been bred by the Hogwarts gamekeeper Hagrid. One thing to remember about these animals though is that it is not the outside that counts. These creatures may look strange but they will surely make good pets in the future. When they are young, their length is about six inches. They start off looking like lobsters without their shell, as well as more slimy, and pale. How adorable is that! They may often smell of rotten fish but you will get used to the smell. A few have stingers, and blood suckers, while they all shoot fire. What a variety to choose from! After two months, these creatures should grow to three feet long and may become cranky (but who doesn’t sometime in their lives?). It is wise to separate them so that they won’t kill each other off. Their skin becomes a thick grey armor that glistens in the sunlight. Within six months, they should grow as to six feet long. During this time it is wise to watch them from a distance as their stingers will start to hang over their heads and be very dangerous. Yet within 9-10 months, your adorable little 6 inch pet will become a cool ten feet creature! Their shells will be immune to many magic spells. What a cool pet to show to all your friends! And that enemy at school won’t be picking on you after he meets your skrewt. Although it is best to get some sort of insurance for yourself as well as making everyone around you sign a voucher stating that you are not responsible for any injuries your skrewt may cause. Profile -Sleeping Patterns: They don’t sleep much and do not hibernate in the winter. -Eating habits: No need for some expensive food for these animals! They just need a nice, warn bottle(or finger) of blood and raw meat as they get older. They have no mouths, so just let them suck the blood from their belly sucker. Males, without the suckers, are unknown how they eat. Yet you could leave a bowl of blood in the corner just in case. -Comfort requirements: These creatures do not need a cage or bed. They just need some ground (that is fireproof) to wander around in. What to do -Wear gloves at all times when around creature around creature -When it gets older, best to watch from inside another building -Get a box with a fireproof walls for your pet. -Separate the skrewts so they won’t start killing each other. -Always stand away from the end that shoots fire. What Not to do - Do not play with it like a dog. Do not bring to school or a populated area ( you might get sued) -Do not feel it scraps from the table. (It might get mad) –Do not sleep with it in your bed. -Last but not least, do not attempt to Stick a bow on it or dress it up. PURCHASE FINAL…NONREFUNDABLE AND NO RETURNS Picture Source- http://www.hp-lexicon.org/bestiary/skrewts.html
