The Rebelious Journey

Herbology lesson had just ended, and Hayley's class were leaving the Greenhouse. Hayley glanced around made sure no one was watching, and grabbed Holly's arm. "C'mere," she whispered. She looked over to the Forbidden Forest. "Let's be rebels, and go for a wee walk...." she trailed off smiling, hoping no one else had saw.

Holly shook her head slowly.
"Look can I go home please?" she repeated, a little scared.

"Listen, Holly. Do you mind if I take a look inside your head." Shadow asked gently.

Holly drew back instantly, back against the wall.
"What? Inside my head!" she asked shrilly, "W-why would you do that? Can I go home?"

"I can promise that it won't hurt you." Shadow said gently.

Holly looked from one face to the other, deciding.
"Well.....okay...." she said.

Shadow nodded and walked towards the girl, putting two fingers on her temples, allowing her mind to gently enter her friends.

Holly flinched violently as she felt Shadow's mind entering hers.
"Does my mum know im here?" she mumbled.

Shadow quickly looked at Holly's memory bank before pulling out again.
"Listen, Holliya, what is the last thing you remember before you met us?"

Holly's breathing slowed. At least they knew her name.
"I .... I was at home ..." she said slowly, "And .... and mum told me to be back by nine ... and I said alright ... and then dad said "i'll see you later kiddo" and I .... left ...."
Holly looked up at her confused.
"Why?"

"How old were you?" Shadow asked, ignoring her question.

"What?" Holly asked, "Stupid question. Ten!"

"Hate to break it to you, but you're actually fifteen." Shadow said.

Holly stared at her for the longest moment, and then looked down.
"I dont feel ten," she admitted, "But ... thats crazy. I know what age I am! Look, I know where I live, all I need is a way to get there so ... could somebody please just ... just help me get there?"

"Holliya, your memory has been damaged." Shadow said bluntly.

Natalie looked at Holly and smiled.

"We had all the best fun when you were 10....remember?" said Natalie.

Holly shook her head at Natalie, eyes wide.
"I dont know you," she repeated, before registering what Shadow had said.
"Damaged?" she said in a whisper, "I am fif- what are these?"
Holly indicated several scars on each wrist.
"What the ... this isnt happening ... "

Shadow nodded solemnly.

Holly looked at her, with round, scared eyes that did not suit her.
"Fifteen?" she repeated, and sank against the wall, hugging her knees.

Shadow nodded again.
""You go to a school called Hogwarts."

"Hogwarts!" Holly repeated nodding, "Yeah! That's where mum and dad went, im going to get my letter soon and...." she trailed off, "I already got my letter huh? Already been though ... like five years of it .... Okay. I accept that I dont remember, but seriously, my dad's really smart so if you could like, please take me there Shadow, that would be great. You never know he might know something to fix it!"

"You're talking to someone who can help you easily as well." Shadow said with a smile.

Holly nodded enthusiastically.
"Good. Gooood. And are we- were we- .... friends?" she asked timidly.

"Best friends, even though I'm only half human." Shadow said.

Holly nodded.
"Oh good," she said, "It's always nice to have a best friend."
She didnt pressure the "half human" thing.
"So what do you think we could do about my memory?"

"We can try and trigger it, or we can leave it as it is and you can start over." Shadow said.

"Imagine starting over," Holly said, "New friends .... new school. Probably a new me ... and I wouldnt live at home anymore, I'd live at Hogwarts ... I'd only see the 'rents at holidays .... "
She sighed lightly, considering.

"You already do." Shadow said.

Holly nodded.
"True ... do I like my life?"
She indicated the scars on her wrist.

"As far as I could tell, yes." Shadow said softly.

Holly nodded.
"Can we trigger it please?" she asked, "I dont want to miss out on five years of memories ... "

"Ok, I'm going to go into your mind again, and I'll show you some of my memories." Shadow said.

Holly nodded.
"Alright,"

They came in flashes.

She, Natalie and Shadow, sitting in the library. "I could cook!" Natalie said happily. "We.are.all.going.to.die" Shadow said. Holly laughed.

Natalie looked worried.

"Holly doesn't remember me....at all," she muttered.

Shadow pulled out of Holly's mind, waiting to see if there was a change.

Without warning Holly reached out and linked her little finger into Shadow's.
"What in the name of Adam and Eve just happened kiddo?"

Shadow grinned.
"Welcome back Hols. You lost your memory."

Holly sat up rubbing her head.
"Jeezuz, my whole life just flashed before me eyes. Lost my memory huh? Well its back now I hope ... "
She grinned at Shadow.
"I assume t'was you who got it back for me eh?"

"You helped yourself too." Shadow said.

Holly shrugged.
"Well thank you. I probably wouldda went mad,"
She laughed and leaned her head against the wall.

Shadow smiled.
"Just be glad you're back."
