| Welcome to the first ever History of Magic Drabble Challenge Showdown!!
Here's how it will work. Each student will choose 5 of the prompts below to write a drabble incorporating the history of magic. The drabble itself will be worth 25 points. Then after the class closes the drabbles will be put up for vote for the best, where you will earn an additional 5 points per vote. The top drabble winners will then move on to Round 2 which will work much the same way. Remember, you must make your drabble fit within the HoM theme and use 5 prompts from the list below. A perfect drabble is exactly 100 words long, but in order to make things easier you will be giving a 20 word cushion (in other words no less than 80 words, no more than 120).
For extra credit you can make a small picture (avatar sizel 100x1000 to go along with your drabble and to advertise for votes) This will be worth and extra 10 points.
Drabble prompts:
Fire Ice Vampire Love Tragedy Plague Devious Wolf Betrayal Snow Weak Victory Blessing Curse Slime Twins Angst Twitch Fever Books Graveyard Wand Pirates Lighthouse Honor Dementia Cold Play Violet Hill
Good Luck! (5 points to the first person to catch the connection to four of the words)

| In the middle of winter, in 1350, a set of twins discovered how to get rid of the plague. Most didn’t believe them, in fear of lies and betrayal. Staying true to their words, Violet and John Bellings became famous for their work. Even though muggles were not trusted, they tried their best to slip them the potions. Most still wonder how they knew just what potions to use and how to cure it. Their father created this disease , to curse the king of England for making more things harder for witches and wizards. Even thought it didn’t start in England, it was made to spread world wide, which is what happen.
*phew, this was fun....is that right?? and the connection with 4 words...are you talking about the vampire, wolf, fever, cold?? becuase they were the only thing that stood out to me. if not....then i have no idea.

| (107 words) “ Vampires are a well documented race, their attributes common knowledge amongst Magicfolk and Muggles alike. What is not widely known is how their legend came to be.
The Curse of Immortality was created in a freak accident, when a Romanian, Vlad I (born 3741BM), was bitten by a cold, festering disease that stole his breath and stilled his weak heart.
Poisoned by the ice that splintered through his body, he turned insane, maddened by the fever that the poison left behind. He found that his only solace was human blood, soon discovering that his newly acquired gifts passed on to those he left alive with his bite.” Excerpt from: A History Of Misunderstood CreaturesBy Hermione Granger-Weasley Chapter Thirteen “Bloodsuckers and Flesh Consumers” Page 434 Words used: Ice, Vampire, Curse, Fever & Weak. **Note(s): -BM= Before Merlin. -Vlad I has no relation to the Muggle Vlad the Impaler (I just like the name. ) Umm...so far as I can see (which isn't too far, I'm short-sighted) I think that the related words are Hill, Graveyard, Slime and Wand. Dare you to tell me I'm wrong.

Magic: terrible blessings, or enchanting curses? Able to bring greatness or destruction, youth have always found it difficult to control. It was the same on the cold night of November 14th, 1543. Many children had gathered with the others at Farmer Morris’ field. Our wandmaker had just given them wands (she assesses them and then gets her materials, for it’s difficult to get wands from outside), and they wanted to scare them a bit, I’m sure. They’ve been outcasts their whole lives –the others don’t know about the magic, but they’ve been treated unequally. Things got out of hand, I assume, and soon fire was spreading from the field into the town. We’d been hiding before, but nothing like now.

And you know my guesses for the connection ^^

| In the winter of 1489, there was a great ice storm. Fifty wizards were stranded in a castle in Russia. As the snow piled around them, they became aware of a betrayal from within. Two of them, twins from a village miles west, had somehow found means to manipulate the weather, causing the wizards to be trapped. They learned the twins were werewolves who trapped the remaining forty-eight as a means for a feast for their clan. The massacre that followed is now known as The Bloody Russian Moon, and is often attributed as the start of prejudice against werewolves.
From: Evil or Hated? The Truth About the Beast Within By Remus J. Lupin
*Managed to do 119 words. That's including the bit about where it came from. The actual excerpt was 100 words exactly. Closest I could get to a perfect drabble without it being weak.
As for my guess of the connected words...maybe I'm dumb, but I can't think of anything. I had thought maybe that I would find out that dementia, twitching, and fever were all symptoms of the plague. Alas I was wrong. Ah well.

| In 890 there was a disease going around called slime curse that was effecting all vampires in the world. This started when a vampire came in contact with a wolf who used to be a man who betrayed Afritimus by giving his secrete of turning a mouse into fire and that secrete was throwing the mouse into a fire pit. Along with turning into a wolf he was also made slimly so that whomever he touched would become infected and hate him. One day the wolf ran into some Pirates and one of them gave him a kiss killing the pirate but in return returning the wolf back into a man. The man felt bad and then killed himself. | |

| Good job! No one actually got the 4 words that I had in mind as being a connection (it was the last four- Cold, Play, Violet, Hill in honor of one of my favorite band's new single) but when I got all of your answers I realized that lots of my words could be connected, so for those that put in the effort to find a connection will get the extra 5 points.
