Subject: Drabble Challenge 3 Fri Nov 09 2007, 06:31

The challenge here is simple: write a drabble using the prompt given. A drabble is a short, self-contained fiction, which should ideally be exactly 100 words long.

Prompt: Listen
Length: Exactly 100 words, or as close as possible (10 words more or less)
Characters: Any
Genre: Any

Points:

1st place: 100 housepoints
2nd place: 80 housepoints
3rd place: 60 housepoints
Everyone who enters: 30 housepoints

"Fred. Listen to me!”

I’ll shout in vain at him when he pulls a prank but he’ll just laugh, his eyes dancing in mischief. He was always the rowdy one, even more than his twin.

As I watch him lie there, very still and pale, I knew he wouldn’t listen

“Molly. Stop it, let go.” I felt Arthur pulling me away as I felt tears fall as I shook Fred’s cold form to try to tell him to wake up.

“Fred, listen to me! You wake up this instant!”

But he wouldn’t listen – for he never does.

“Luna, are you listening to me” Ginny said as Luna looked off into space.

“Yes” Luna replied

“Luna” Ginny said as she snapped her fingers in front of her face. “Listen to me”

“I am” Luna said still staring into outer space.

“Well then what did I say”

“Something about nifflers”

“No” Ginny said “It about Harry. Listen Luna”

“About Neville?” Luna asked confused. “What about him?”

“Not Neville, Harry. I’m talking about Harry” Ginny said

“Oh” Luna said as she started to stare off again.

“Will you ever listen to me?” Ginny said as she let out a sigh.

"Listen to me Ron! You don't know what you are talking about!"

"What do you mean listen to you? There is no excuse to go-"

"Just stop it! Listen, I just went for a walk."

"Walk? You call that a walk. The thought makes me want to puke!"

"What is your problem Ronald! It's just simple-"

"Listen to yourself! I would starve before being in close contact with that thing."

"He is not a thing Ronald! The Giant Squid is a perfectly tame and friendly animal. Honesty, do you pay attention in class?"

“Listen to me, mate.You’ll do fine. I bet it’ll be easy.”

“How do you know?” Ron asked nervously.

“Because, how hard could this be? You get down, ask, she says yes. Just make sure to look right into her eyes.”

“But…what if she doesn’t say yes? What if…”

“Ron, can you think of anyone else she’d say yes to besides you?” Ron mumbled something that sounded like ‘Vicky’ “No, Ron, you.”

“Right. I can do this.” Before leaving, he looked back over his shoulder with sudden realization. “Harry, where’d you learn so much about proposing?” Harry glanced at the red haired girl standing behind him.

“May have done it myself.”

"Listen to me, love, and listen well." Lily Potter bent over the cradle in which her pride and joy lay. He looked up at her attentively with deep blue eyes, which would slowly change to green, though his doting mum would never witness it.

"I want you to know that...I wish that I...you could never..." As she struggled to find the right words to convey her feelings, Harry cooed and sucked his fist happily. "Please know that I love you," she told him fervently. "Please never doubt that."

And her little son grinned in utter bliss, as only a child who has never been wronged can do…

"Listen to me you worthless boy!" Mr. Malfoy yelled at his son, as the blonde haired youth ran up the stairs.

Draco didn't stop, he knew where he was going. He just had to see her face one last time before...before...

"You ignorant little piece of dung," His fathers voice yelled.

Draco slammed the door and grabbed a picture of a pretty redhead off his bedside table, Ginny Weasly. "I love you" he whispered to the glass.

His father burst through the door, "crucio!"

The picture fell to the floor and shattered, as the blonde boy screamed in agony.

"Listen!"

"Oh, hi Myrtle sorry for disturbing you but I think I left my gloves here.." Hermione replied as Myrtle glared at her from the toilet.

"Come to make fun of me?! Moaning moaping fat Myrtle I know what you people say around me!"

"Myrtle listen I am only looking for my gloves!" Hermione replied exasperated. "Its cold outside and I have Care of Magical Creatures!"

"Making fun of me, you know I can't feel warmth!" Myrtle lets out several shrieks and all of a sudden....

flush...

"Always wanted to do that" Hermione said as Myrtle spiraled down the toilet.

Teddy Lupin, his head tilting to the left, motioning Victoire to do the same.

Frowning, Victoire strained to hear, blonde hair cascading down her shoulder. Nothing. But then...

"I think I hear... a howl?" she asked, confused.

Teddy nodded, his expression wistful.

"Sometimes when I hear that I imagine that my dad is still out there somewhere." His voice was deep, gruff with emotion.

"Oh, Teddy!" she whispered. Reaching out she took his hand.

Victoire and Teddy stood in the silent night, hands intertwined, listening to the sounds of the past, forming the bond that would decide their future.

He lays still in the cradle, cuddling in his innocent sleep. She walks the floor, wringing her hands anxiously.

He is young, new to life. His little cheeks are rosy, soft like velvet. She is old now, searching for happiness. There are creases around her eyes, worry lines on her forehead.

He has yet to cry. She has already wept.

They are different, separated by generations. She has lost and fought for his freedom. He will grow and gain from her strength.

They are different. Yet, as they both listen to the silence of the night, they wait for the same. She will never come back.

Putting down his folk, Ron glanced in Hermione’s direction.

"I already told you Hermione. I swear I'll shave tomorrow, I promise."

"Ron now is not the time to bring that up."

As she glanced around the table and saw several eyes staring at her."

"Well... what is i..t .....then?" Ron said with a mouth full of potatoes.

"I'm pregnant Ron!"

Forks and knifes seemed to drop at the exact moment as cheers and screams started to full the room.

Ron just sat there shocked and unable to move.

"It wasn‘t what it looked like," he insisted.

“Sure it wasn’t, she fell on top of you and your lips happened to touch,” her tone was icy.

He ran and cut her off. “Just listen to what I have to say.”

“So you can lie your way out of this mess? I can’t believe you-”

He cut her off. “I love you.”

“What?”

“I love you,” he repeated.

She stood in shock, she couldn’t believe what she heard. “I’m listening,” she heard herself say.

He felt a tug at his knee- the toddler was grinning, gazing up at him with his color-changing eyes. He looked as if he were itching to say something. Harry smiled and knelt down, then set him on his knee.

“What is it, Teddy?”

He got up on his tiptoes and whispered into Harry’s ear.

“I love you, Daddy.”

Remus Lupin had become an expert listener by the time of his death. The ability had come naturally to him, a quiet, thoughtful person.. He had heard a great many things, but this was one that he would never hear.

As harry walk along the cold street he could hear noises coming from a bush near by. He pulled his wand out just to be ready.
As he got closer and closer to the bush the noises turned into voices and out popped Ron and Ginny.
Harry jumped back with his wand pointing at them.
HARRY its us Ginny shouted
what are yous doing here Harry asked
Ron replayed come to get you we heared about what happened to your aunt. Ron said with a smile upon his face

“Rose will you listen to me.” Scorpios cried after her, as the beautiful red head.
“Just go away” she screamed at him. As he chased after her he could feel the stares of other students, well who cares. Catching up to her he grabbed hold of her arm.
“Rose just hear me out.” Giving an exasperated sigh she began to tap her foot on the floor. “ I don’t care what they think of you Gryffindors and Slytherins can be friends we ARE friends, there just arrogant pigs.”
“Arrogant pigs who…” but she did not get to finish her sentence as Scorpios pulled her close and kissed her.

"I don't hear anything," Luna replied.

"Exactly my point. Isn't it great to finally have silence?" Before Luna replied, Ginny came bursting in.

"How dare you, Luna? I thought you were my friend. And you, Harry, I actually thought you liked me," she demanded.

"Sorry Gin. My friend, Rista, talked to me. She thinks you're not good for me. I had to listen to her reasoning, and I agree. I love Luna, now."

Ginny ran out of the room screaming as Luna and Harry started kissing. "Men!" She yelled after slamming the door.

-"Well you see, when I first saw you I thought you were to stuck-up but now that I've grown to love you. And I think you are wonderful in every way..even when you lecture me for not studying. And sorry about every single time I make you mad. I love you Hermione." he said.
She looked at him and couldn't help but smile and hug him.

"What?" Ron started suddnly from the seat which he had fallen asleep on.
"You always do that. Doze off in the middle of my sentences!" She stood up, and started to leave.
"Hermonie!" Ron screamed to her.
"No, Ron. I cant talk to you if you gonna doze off everytime I open my mouth!"
"Hermonie, I..."
"Mabey I just wont let you know, then Ron"
"Let me know what?" He was finally interested
"Well, Ron, if you will stay awake long enough, Ginny might be pregant. Now, goodnight"

“Are you listening, Potter?” Professor Snape said.
“Um, oh yeah,” Harry said as he lowered his book about Horcruxes.
“Then what are the ingredients to the sleeping potion?” Snape asked.
“Well…….Um…..” mumbled Harry.
“100 points from Gryffindor.” Snape blasted. Harry awoke, slumped in his chair in the Potions classroom. He looked around.
“Whew” he thought. They were just starting to learn about the sleeping potion.
“So, can anyone tell me about the sleeping potion?” Snape said once again. Harry’s hand shot up, quicker than the usual Hermione’s hand.
“Potter, a surprise,” Snape whispered. As Harry was saying the ingredients, Snape said, “10 points to Gryffindor!” for the very first time.

Listening was not one of Ronald Weasley’s strengths. He’s a brilliant chess player, a fair Keeper, but when it came to listening, he had better things to do. So when he finally got to be alone with Hermione, he didn’t listen to her talk. He didn’t hear her ask if he was listening, nor when she yelled at him for being..... him, but most of all, he failed to hear her mumble ‘I love you’ before she went to her dorm.

Ron needs to learn how to listen...

(100 words! By the way, this is my first time doing something like this...)
