Hallow Drabble Challenge

That was a noise from downstairs. Definitely a noise, footsteps. But she lived alone. Her breathing racing as she bolted toward her bedroom door, locking it and setting a small end table in front of it. It must have alerted the intruder because the too sharp silence, that lasted only a few seconds, was broken by footsteps heading toward her door. Her heartbeat hammered as the steps bounded closer and closer, the door soon shaking as the person tried to break in. It wasn't going to hold; any second now he'd get through and find her. Three, two, one. Scream.

"WHAT?!"

Katie flinched at the HeadMaster's shout.

"But..."

"No! We cannot have pink flamingos for the Halloween feast, that just won't do!"

"But... pink! Purple tutus! How more perfect can it be, Rai?"

Raistlin was now turning an unhealthy red.

"Not in a million years! Absolutely not!"

"Why not?"

"Because... because... it would scare the first years!"

Katie raised an eyebrow.

"Mister, how exactly are pink flamingos scary? Rai... is there something you want to tell me? You scared of flamingos?"

"OUT! GET OUT!"

Katie rushed out of the word dodging Raistlin's spells and laughing with tears in her eyes.

Claire ran through the woods, feet pounding across dry leaves, crackling. The air was fresh, biting against her face, hair blowing with the wind. Spine-tingling howls rang in the distance, rising like defiant shouts, filled with joy and passion at being free. Claire smiled as she basked in the light from the giant full moon above. The feeling of shrinking and expanding simultaneously came over her, as fur sprouted from her skin, a long snout forming as all of her senses sharpened. She gave a long howl, standing on all four paws mightily. She was the wolf. She was free.

Mr Finklestein hated holidays – always had, ever since he was a kid and his mother insisted he stay home and study his numbers rather than trick-or-treat, or have any fun, at all, ever. So here he was, fifty years later, a dentist and still horrible at math, with a multitude of young sprouts knocking on his door constantly like it was Halloween or something.

Grouchy and irritable because of his arthritis, Mr Finklestein answered the door after the one hundredth ring and scowled down at the smiling children – how he hated them so.

“Trick or treat!” they said in perfect unison.

“I'm a dentist!” he roared.
