| I just finished a really great book called "Anybody Out There?" by Marian Keyes. I've always avoided her books, because I thought they'd be brainless chick lit, but I really enjoyed this one.
It's about Anna, and opens at her parents house in Ireland, where she appears to be recovering from an accident. She's anxious to get back to New York, but we don't know why. We also don't know what caused her injuries. The first part is a mystery until we find out the reason, which is then explored in the latter part.
I think I'm going to look out some more of Keyes' books, because I very much enjoyed "Anybody Out There?"

| Lol at first I was avoiding them as well, but then I accidentally began reading one and it was hilariously funny. I forget which one that was though...but I saw she has a new book out ...I think it's called watermelon and I flipped through it in the store and had to bite my lip to keep from laughing out loud so I'm gonna keep an eye out for that book.
She's just so sarcastic sometimes...like this line is typical of her to write (and she did write something similar in watermelon, I just can't remember the exact wording) "The day dawned bright and cold. I know this because I was rudely awoken at exactly dawn..."
Mwahahaha. Soo many writers use the first part of that sentence, but not that many use the second part XD
EDIT: Oh and I recently began an excellent series by Justine Larbalestier. The first book is called Magic or Madness and the second book is Magic Lessons. These books are really interesting and immediately draw you into the plot. I loved them both.
Then I looked up her info in the back, and checked out her acknowledgements, and guess what? She's Scott westerfeld's wife. Hehee. I had made a note to read her books, and then I completely forgot about it. Anyway but the fates pushed her books my way and they really are good. Not as awesome as Uglies, but pretty darn good anyway.

Do I go with the former, which is quite a sad and depressing story, or the latter, which is a very funny account of growing up in 1980's England?

anyway but I will give it a try, thanks holly.
I just read Stolen Voices by Ellen Dee Davidson and it was really interesting. It's sort of a futuristic world like the one in specials, but a very different world. It develops quite nicely, leaves you interested the entire time, has a good ending that ties up almost everything but leaves some stuff to your imagination, and best of all, IT ISN'T A SERIES! Merlin, I was getting a bit tired of every good book I picked up turning out to be a series, (specials, twilight, aGaTB, etc) and then I had to wait years to read the ending. *clears throat* this DOES include HP. mwahahaha. *runs off*

| At the moment I am reading "Sushi For Beginners" by Marian Keyes, and coming up after that I've got "The Other Side of the Story" by Keyes and "The Time Traveller's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. Hehe, I think I am going to have to make my way through all of Keye's books, now that I've discovered what a great author she is. Ooh, and the other day I read "The Undomestic Goddess" by Sophie Kinsella. I wrote a review of it for Ciao, but I won't bored you unless you really want to read it, so I'll put it under spoiler tags :D - Spoiler:
Sophie Kinsella is perhaps most known for her "Shopaholic" series of books, a few of which I have read and enjoyed. And so when I found this lying around the house (I believe it's my Mum's), and I had a long train ride coming up, I decided it was worth a read.
It's a very funny, very readable book that I read completely in the two hours it took to get from Birmingham to London.
**Blurb**
Samantha is a high-powered lawyer in London. She works all hours, has no home life, and cares only about getting a partnership. She thrives on the pressure and adrenalin. Until one day...she makes a mistake. A mistake so huge, it'll wreck her career.
She walks right out of the office, gets on the first train she sees, and finds herself in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she is mistaken for the interviewee housekeeper and finds herself being offered the job. They have no idea they've hired a Cambridge-educated lawyer with an IQ of 158 - Samantha has no idea how to work the oven.
Disaster ensues. It's chaos as Samantha battles with the washing machine...the ironing board...and attempts to cook a cordon bleu dinner. But gradually, she falls in love with her new life in a wholly unexpected way.
Will her employers every discover the truth? Will Samantha's old life ever catch up with her? And if it does...will she want it back?
**Plot** (Minor spoilers)
The plot is relatively convoluted, like many of the stories in the chick-lit genre are, but it's a very funny story, and the characters make it feel real. The plot is pretty much outlined in the blurb, and from the opening chapter where Samantha is trying to relax at a health spa, but has her mobile phone hidden in her knickers, you know it's going to be good.
Samantha is a high flying lawyer, hugely successful and is about to make partnership in the firm she works for, when she discovers she's lost the company £50 million. In a state of shock she gets on a train, gets slightly drunk and takes some very strong painkillers - and ends up walking into a posh house and being mistaken as a housekeeper interviewee.
The owners of the house - the Geiger's - are so impressed with her bluffing that they hire her on the spot. Meanwhile, everyone at Samantha's company are trying to reach her - to tell her she's sacked.
What ensues is a comedy of errors - she can't cook, she can't iron, she can't clean, yet she has to do all of this for the Geiger's. On the first day she calls in the caterers - to make sandwiches, and during the first week she has to replace their entire wardrobe.
And then there's Nathaniel - the gardener. Well, it wouldn't be chick lit if there wasn't any romance, would it? Nathaniel is the typical romantic figure - tall, strong, tanned and an all round nice guy. Samantha falls for him the moment she sees him shirtless, and soon they are grappling amongst the raspberry bushes.
Samantha thinks her new life is idyllic - yes she may have to deal with canapés and cordon bleu, but she's rested, she has weekends off and she doesn't have to deal with the fact she lost £50 million.
And then her old life catches up with her... I won't reveal the ending for you!
**Characters**
Like with all of Kinsella's books, the characters are immensely likeable and slightly ditzy. Samantha Sweeting, our heroine is very clever - she's a Cambridge educated lawyer after all, but she's also - ah, how to put this - very 'blonde'. That's not to say she's stupid, but at the start of the book she doesn't know how to make a sandwich. Nevertheless, she's a great character, someone you can imagine being friends with and very real.
Nathaniel, the love interest, is slightly two-dimensional; you feel he is there to be the love interest and the love interest alone. However, he does have a slight family history, so he's not too 'fake' feeling. However, he is a likeable character, but we don't really get to know too much about him.
The Geigers - Trish and Eddie - are Samantha's new employers, and they're a riot. Trish is a wannabe Lady, she's in her forties but pretends she's thirty-seven, puts on airs and graces, and throws a Charity lunch just because it's trendy. Eddie is the affable buffoon, not the brightest crayon in the box, but he loves his wife and would do anything to keep her happy. They're very malleable, gullable - well, they believe all the lies Samantha tells them - but they're great characters, and very funny.
There are a few other minor characters - Guy, the smarmy lawyer colleague, and Iris, Nathaniel's kind mother amongst them.
**Book Details**
Pages: 416 Author: Sophie Kinsella Price: £6.99 (paperback)
**Overall**
I very much enjoyed this book, it made me laugh out loud in some places (not the best thing to do on a crowded train!), and you really wanted things to go right for Samantha; when she desperately wanted the partnership with the lawyer firm, you wanted it for her, when she made the huge mistake, you really felt for her.
Kinsella knows her genre, there's no doubt about that, she knows all the conventions of chick lit, but she doesn't go too far into using clichés. This is a very original plot, and as I've said several times, very funny. It's an easy read, it only took me the duration of the train journey, and I was left wanting more.
I'd definitely recommend it - well worth a read.

| ohh amy on your recommendation I read Anybody Out There? by Marian Keyes and it was MUCH better than I expected. It was funny and sad and so real, somehow. It was so excellent, I was crying by the sad parts (which doesn't mean much I suppose, since the smallest things are making me cry lately...but that's another story XD) but more importantly it made me laugh out loud at the funny parts. I was reading it late at night and everyone was asleep so I had to muffle my laughter but anyway. By my judgement if a book makes me laugh, then it's excellent. It was boring once or twice, during some of her work days and a few of the letters her mum sent her, but I loved her wacky, slightly messed-up family because that just made them realistic. The ending was good as well, although I thought that - Spoiler:
including the butterfly
was overdoing it just a bit. But overall it was a great book and I highly recommend it. (But just for the record, I read 'sushi for beginners' a while ago and most of it was a load of boring rubbish.)

| At the moment, I am reading "Cat's Eye" by Margaret Atwood. It's pretty funny to watch people stare at the sight of me carrying a simply HUMUNGOUS book around at school all the time, but it's fun XD I feel like it takes a certain type of mature mentality to understand a book like this... (And no, I'm not talking about having the ahh-mazing ability to walk and take a drink of soda at the same time... which one of my friends actually cannot do XD) the kind that has an adult-level mind that can fully comprehend and appreciate the book. It's about a middle-aged woman named Elaine Risley, who has come back to her hometown in persuit of her career as a painter. There she dwells on memories of the past... painful memories of her childhood, that scarred her for life, that she just cant seem to let go of. Her strongest memories are of Cordelia, who was the leader of a trio of girls who were both very cruel and very kind to young Elaine, in ways that tint Elaine's perceptions of relationships and her world—not to mention her art—into the character's middle years. It is very in depth and draws you in from the first line... "Time is not a line, but a dimension, like the demension of space." When I started reading, what attracted me to it was because it was as if she was trying to figure out time, which I try to do a lot. I was attracted to it, because Elaine Risley is sort of how I sort of see myself someday... because I know I will be obsessed with memories of the past, only I'll be wanting to go back. I would reccomend this book to people who think they can handle it! It's very in-depth and intellectual and I am enjoying it so far ^.^ | |

I loved that one! I thought it was really good, in fact I preferred it to Anybody Out There. I didn't really like Lisa, but Ashling and Clodagh's story's were great. Plus, I liked the setting of a magazine environment. I also read The Other Side of the Story by Marian Keyes, and that was great as well, set in the world of book publishing. Although I get the feeling I sympathised with the wrong character; I think we're meant to feel for Lily, but I really didn't like her lol.

| Nothing at the moment...
I'm waiting for a couple of books to be delivered, and then I will be reading either "Rachel's Holiday" or "Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married" by Marian Keyes. I think they're the last of Keyes' books I have to read lol.

| Well, our Swedish teacher forced us to read a book she had picked out for each of us, 'something suitable..' Of course I had to get a very boring book, which is clearly written to a boy and is just.... BORING!!!! >__<
Anyway, it's "Kim Novak badade aldrig i Genesarets sjö" by Håkan Nesser. It's a book written by a Swedish guy (duhh?) and is placed in the beginning of the 60s... *falls asleep* And I'm supposed to read it and comment on it and gaaah... i'm on page 130 of 247... xD
I DON'T WANNA READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
...
Point made clear? Yes? Good. ^^

| I laughed out loud so many times when I read The Undomestic Goddess. There was one particular moment that killed me, but for the life of me I can't remember which part it was. I *think* it was when - Spoiler:
she prepares the first meal for the Geigers
But yeah, that is a hilarious book.

| lol I can't think of any moment that particularly made me laugh. I was just laughing every ten pages or so. it's undeniable chick lit, though...which has changed my opinion of chick lit. after all, aren't I a chick? XD
oh and I forgot to mention this book: The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak cause I read it a couple weeks ago when I was away. This book is SO SO good. I recommend it to everyone. It's basically about WWII and the Holocaust.
It's narrated by Death, and it's written differently and more originally than any book I've ever read. There are these cute illustrations that characters 'made'...Merlin, now I'm rambling. Just read this book. Cause it's one of the best books I've read in maybe a year, and I read A LOT of books in a year.

| At the moment I'm reading a Romanian play .... it's called "Take, Ianke and Cadir". It's pretty funny but it also tells about the difficulties of marriage between religions .. aka Christian and Jewish in this case. Mind you, the play was written in 1933.... Anyhow, it's a rather popular play and I've decided to read it since I've also seen it in the theatre and loved it! :D | |

| I'm now reading "Rachel's Holiday" by Marian Keyes. It's quite good so far, but I'm only a couple of chapters in, so I'll reserve judgement for a bit lol.
But if it's as good as Keyes other books, then there'll be no problem.

| Hmm I've just read Red Palms by Cara Haycak. It was boring at the beginning, then it was kinda sad and bittersweet. Towards the end it was oddly enlightening...the sort of book that makes me think for a while, then I forget all about it, then 6 months later some scene will appear in my mind and I'll spend the rest of the day wracking my brain trying to remember which book it comes from.
It was interesting, anyway.

| I just started the new Maeve Binchy novel, but I also just started a fan fic called, i think, The Seven Horcruxes. Amy mentioned it a post and I looked it up. It's super long, but pretty entertaining, it's a version of what the writer thinks is going to happen in the last book. Anything to get my Harry Potter fix. | |

Yay! I take it you mean "The Seventh Horcrux" by Melindaleo? That is a really great fic, one of my favourites. When you're done with that, you should read the rest ofMelinda's fics - the pre-HBP novel length ones are great too. I'm still reading the Marian Keyes book at the moment.

| Ohhh, I love Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! Still reading the Seventh Horcrux (yes, Amy that's the one!) and I honestly can't wait to compare it with the true 7th book. My only problem is that she is HUGE into Harry/GInny, and while I know that Harry/Hermione is never gonna happen, and I'm okay with Ginny...but I don't want her on the hunt for the horcruxes! | |

| Ahh, that's one of the things I love about Melinda's fics - that she is so big on the H/G. We only got a little of it in the real books, and as her fics are so very well written, the H/G in them is great.
I love the ending of TSH. I just hope the ending of DH is as satisfying.
