TUTORIAL: The Wanderer Signature

In this tutorial we’re going to make a grunge-effect Doctor Who signature banner.



What we'll need:

This picture of The Doctor
This image of a window
This gradient

1. Open a new image at 444x222 pixels


2. Start with the picture of The Doctor. This will need to be resized to 267x225 pixels. Desaturate the image by going to Colours >> adjust >> hue/saturation/lightness. Lower the saturation to –100. Put this to one side for the moment.



3. Open the image of the window, and copy and paste it as a new layer on the right hand side of the canvas.



4. Take the picture of The Doctor that we prepared earlier and copy and paste it as a new layer onto the left side of the picture. Position it so it overlaps only slightly with the image of the window.



5. Duplicate the layer (layers >> duplicate) and drag it across to sit on top of the window image on the base.



6. Set the duplicate layer to hard light (layers >> properties). Take the gradient and paste it as a new layer over the whole canvas, then set it to soft light.



7. The next step is to add your brushes, having created a new raster layer. I used a grunge line brush entitled “Filthy” from 1greeneye (link here), to cover up the nasty line down the centre of the image, as well as some other grunge-esque brushes around the edges.


8. Add the text. In this image, I used a font called “Smash”. Merge all the layers.


9. Finally, add your borders. In this image, I used a 1 pixel black border, followed by a 2 pixel grey border and another 1 pixel black border.

couldnt get the brushes so i used different ones also i used photoshop and mine doesnt have borders so i tried my best:
