The Winter Ball

A dance was asked for so here you go! The first dance of Hogwarts!

"Well," she said...trying to think of conversation, considering she was supposed to be dead after all. "wheren't you in my year at hogwarts?" she asked.

"Any kind really," ::Lavender replied with a sweet smile. She took in a breath as their tempo slowed down, glad that she could take a break before having to be twirled about the room again. At his comment about Potter, Granger, and...Ron, the brunette chuckled.::

"Well, I'd like to think that I'm a bit more fun to hang around than three people who you only tease and make fun of most of the time,"

"You know, I can't rightly remember. Right out of St. Mungo's, you know." He smiled and let go of the glass, it popping from sight.

"oh right! how was it there? you know i hear the food rocks..." ::She remembered something mentioned to her in passing by a friend of a friend of a friends cousin::

:Oh quite wonderful. I learned joined-up writing while I was there you know." He grinned and then frowned suddenly. That sounded quite stupid, didn't it? He shook his head and looked to Lily. "Oh yes, the food is quite nice."

::Lily looked midly impressed. for someone who had had their memory whiped, joined up writting was quite an achievement::

"Joined up writting? Really! how...er...impressive considering..." :she trailed off. maybe he didn't want to talk about his memory issues....::

"you know i've actually read all of your books. very interesting reads those where."

He promptly whipped out a photo of himself and scribbled his signature onto it, thrusting it towards her. "Here you are. " He grinned and nodded approvingly. "Yes, I am wonderful and amazing,aren't I?"

::Lily couldn't help herself but laugh at how proud he was of himself...or self centered. whichever::

"why thank you!"

::She smiled ::

"You're welcome!" He grinned stupidly and pocketed his quill. "Now, if your, ah, husband wouldn't mind, would you like to dance?" The sentence came out rather...oddly, but this was Lockhart we're dealing with here.

::Ron watched Lavander dance with Draco and sighed, staring at her longingly.

She looks to be having a good time with that blonde headed git.
::Then he shook his head not liking what he was seeing, especially when Draco and Lavander began dancing closer together. Ron shook his head and started walking towards them, cracking his knuckles as he glared at Draco::

(lol Ron isn't too happy and plus I thought I'd add some conflict)

"well it can't hurt anything." :Lily sighed:: "he's not even here and he hates dancing anyway."

::She smiled and took his hand as he led her to the dance floor.::

::Okay he was an idiot, but at least he was over 17.::
::She thought as she looked at all the young students dancing awkwardly with each other.::

"I suppose so." Yes, Gilderoy was quite the idiot, but, in his mind, he was charming all the same. He looked about at all the students, dancing well...like high school students. He smiled as they walked out onto the dance floor and he took her waist and one of her hands in his and fell into a rather fast paced waltz.

::Lavender heard a crack behind her, and turned. Well, well, seems like Ron can't handle seeing me with Draco...how useful.. She looked back up at Malfoy and said.::

"Oh dear, it appears as though Weasley is coming to cause some trouble. Perhaps I should go..." ::she began to pull away from Malfoy.::

(I enjoy making Lavender evil like this... :D)

::Lily nearly tripped at the fast paced waltz, and nearly ran over lavender and malfoy.::

::fortunatly no one seemed to have noticed::

"Sorry children!" He called over his shoulder as Lily nearly polowed into them....though he probably didn't help any...Lockhart wasn't as light on his feet as he thought he was...or maybe he was, he just danced like a monkey....

::Ron approached Lavander and Draco and reached out grabbing Lavander's hand::
"Lav-Lav, you shouldn't be here with this foul git! Do you have any idea what everyone will be saying about you?" He then began pulling her away:: "Come on, the least I can do is take you over to where you'll be away from that git."

::Lily realized that she should be figuring out why she was alive and that she should leave, even though she didn't want to.::

"Well, i should go...i guess, even though i really have nowhere to go. I just, need to figure out why i'm alive when i remember being dead. And i don't want to scare harry.::

He nodded and grinned. "Well, I suppose so. Though the boy might enjoy actually meeting his mother." He looked thoughtful, actaully a rather painful look for Gilderoy.

::Lily froze, her hand still resting on his shoulder from when they had been waltzing, although they had both stopped now.::

"I....it...might be too painfull for m...for him i mean."

::she shuddered. she didn't know what would happen to her or to harry....her worry showed in her vibrant green eyes::

He nodded with a rather stupid look on his face that was probably meant to be something entirely different. "That is true...who knows what it might do." He nodded in assurance of his own starement and looked down at her. "Are you alright?"

::Lily looked up from the daze she had been lost in.::

"yes,...well....i suppose...oh dear!" ::she exclaimed as she saw Harry walking towards them with some friends. ::

::She ducked around Lockhart so that she was blocked from her son's view.::

"i don't think either of us are ready to see each other.....if ever." ::she smiled brightly. ::

"Oh the complications of being thought dead" :and she laughed slightly.::

"Thought dead?" That out quite the bug in Lockhart's simple little brain. He raised a quizzical brow and scratched his head in utter confusement.

::Lily was just as confused::


"Well i see, i was killed almost 17 years ago, aparently by voldemort, but here i am...see? so i'm thought dead, but i'm not...and for some reason, now i'm not only watching over my son's life, but i'm at one of his school dances" :she shrugged.:: "call me crazy"

"But how could you be dead, but not dead now?" Lockhart huffed with irritated confusement and looked over his shoulder at her. "And James, I take it, is in the same situation?"

"That's just it!" ::She wailed despondently, stamping her foot for emphasis.::

"I can't be dead and and alive, and alive-dead. I don't know how this is! And as for James i have no clue where, what or in what living/dead state he is in right now!" ::she was becoming snappish with out meaning to be::


"I"m sorry." :: she gave a half smile:: "this is supposed to be a fun wintery ball, not a rant."

He blinked a few times and waved a disconcerned hand. "Its alright, I understand your...deliemma." Throughly, Gilderoy though he did, but the truth was...he knew what she was talking about, but didn't truly understand the whole problem.

(Goyle)

Goyle walked up to Draco and said. "You're not going to let Weasel do that to you, are you?"

::Lavender wrenched her wrist from Ron's grip.::

"Listen here Won..ugh..Ron since when do you care what I do? Or call me Lav Lav?" ::She spun around and glared at Goyle.::

"This is none of your business!"

"Lavender, can't we just start over? Hermione dumped me for Harry! And I miss you." Ron mumbled sadly showing her a sad pouty face.::

Lavender felt herself go a little weak at the knees and bit her lip. Part of her really wanted to go back to Ron, but the other half was telling her she shouldn't because after all, he had dumped her, and that had hurt a lot.

"Ron..." she said quietly. Then she snapped her head up. "The only thing you miss about me is having someone to snog to get your precious Hermione jealous!"

::Lily grinned at his confused look::

"meh, that's what i get for choosing the first character that came to mind cause all the others were taken" ::she laughed:: "you end up with a dead person"

(Oliver Wood)

::Oliver wandered around the ball for a bit looking for someoe to talk to. Since leaving Hogwarts, he felt strange talking to students as he was a teacher aid/Quidditch coach. Yet too arkward to hang out with the teachers, he steered clear of their table.::

::Letting out a deep sigh, Oliver wandered over to the far corner balcony and looked up at the sky. It was a clear beautiful night. His fingers itched to grab his broom to do a little midnight flying.::

(I'm just going to be an OC, kay?)

*Wearing a dress of deep red, Pippa Delanie walked into the Great Hall and looked around amazed. The prefects had really outdone themselves for this one! she fixed up her dress and blew a strand of hair away from her face before heading into the large crowd who were dancing outrageously.*

*She managed to walk her way through without much damage and walked over to pur herself some pucnh. Hopefully, nobody spiked it yet for she was incredibly thirsty. Pippa took a sip and sat down, taking a chance to look who was here.*

~Draco stepped up in Ron's face and his eyes met those of the red-head boy.~

"Weasel, I think Lavander has made up her own mind on who she thinks is best. So, either you back off or I'll have to show you why I'm better than you are...again"

Lavender looked from Draco to Ron. Her first instinct was to yell at Draco, she could deal with Ron herself, after all. But instead she decided to let them have a row.

It would spice up the evening after all...

*Pippa watched with interest an argument going on between two boys an a girl. It was obvious they were fighting over the girl. She smiled. Who needed a dance, when she was watching a real life soap opera right here? She continued to down her punch*

(I'm gonna be Lockheart and James...cause I wanna)

It was then that...somehow,...James Potter wandered into the hall. My this felt weird...he was suppose to be DEAD afterall. He shrugged as his dark eyes looked about. "I wonder what Harry'll do if he sees me." He scratched his head and shrugged. "Guess we'll find out if that happens." He walked around the outside of the dance floor and soon his eye fell upon the flaming hair of his wife and he smiled, walking over to her.

~Draco smirked as he watched Ron back down from him. It was obvious that he had the upper hand. "You'd better back off, Weasel." ~

~Then Draco turned to Lavander.~

"I think you can handle Weasel. I'm a little thirsty so I need to take a break, but let me know if you need me." He said with a slight smile. Then he kissed her hand. "Thank you for the dances and your company, Miss Brown."
And then he turned and glared at Ron once more before finally walking off to the refreshment area~

*Pippa set down her punch and smiled as the scene th three were making was over. It was probably the only intersting that happened so far. She balanced her self on the hind legs of the chair, smoothing down her blonde hair and looking out into the sea of students on the dance floor. The weird sisters were playing a fast jam that she loved. She tapped her foot and started to sing along queitly to herself. She could go for some more punch, she was unusually thirsty.*

:Harry skidded into the great hall, late as usual.: (my name really is harry, not joking) He hoped he didn't look too foolish in his black tux. entering the great hall he stood to the refreshment table and started to look over the finger foods. his stomach was rumbling:

~Draco picked up a cup of punch and sipped it as he briefly glanced to Harry. He smirked to himself then looked around at everyone else~

*Pippa crossed and uncrossed her legs as she leaned back in her chair listening as the rock music soon turned into a slow jam. She gave up on finding someone to talk to because they were all on the dance floor. She glanced at her empty cup and decided on getting some more punch and maybe some snacks too.*

Then I'll head up to bed, she thought.

*She approached the refreshment table were two boys were lingering and smiled breifly at them. "Hello." she said and turned to pour herself some punch as she glanced around at all the snacks layed out on the table.*

::Lavender nodded to Draco, and turned, seeing a new girl there. Parvati hadn't shown up yet, so, deciding to make a new friend-and perhaps hear some new gossip, Lavender strolled over.::

"Hey, are you new to Hogwarts? I don't think I've seen you around before."" ::she asked with a smile.::

:Pippa looked up from stuffing her face and blushed at the girl, who was talking to her: She swallowed and nodded her head, tucking her long blonde hair behind her ear. SHe did that alot when she was nervous and she had no idea why she was:

"I'm Pippa," she introduced, trying to get herself to calm down. "I just transferred here. I'm Ravenclaw. I decided to come here and see what was going on."
