Lecture and Discussion One

(this will be a role play style classroom lecture. Students will post in this interactive lecture and discussion. It's like going to a rpg ball in the great hall, only in the classroom. You will get up to 50 house points for participating. This lecture will be open for around two weeks, depending.)



::Lifey walked to the front of her class room, surveyed her students, then picked up the dry erase board pen and began to write on the board.::

::She wrote: ::

::She then turned to face the class.::

"Welcome to Transfiguration class. While we will be using spells in class, i ask you to refrain from hexing each other, talking to each other, or being disruptive in anyway to the class."

::she paused and glared significantly at certain students::

"First we must ask ourselves; what sort of jobs would require the use of Transfiguration? Why would you use Transfiguration instead of doing something the muggle way, aside from saving time. Any ideas?"

::She raised an eyebrow and looked for raised hands::

Dancing raised her hand slowly.

"We would use the transfiguration to change objects into something else such as a rock into a dog. ONe job that requiers transfigeration is..um.. arour(sp?) or a dark wizard chatcher. and Possibly a teacher at Hogwarts."

Stephy raises her hand too. Once Lifey calls her name she says.
"Umm, it could be used to make a witches or wiazard life easier or to help them with a difficult taks. People that work in the miserty of magic could have use for it." Stephy said

::Lifey nodded::

"yes good answers. What could an auror do with Tranfiguration though? How would Transfiguration aid a Ministry worker?

"and ah! makes life easier"

::Lifey wrote it on the board and underlined::

::Lifey paced before the whiteboard before stopping and writting::

-changing objects from one thing to another
--saves time
--difficult tasks


"Now Dancing refferenced aurors which brings us to defense and transfiguration, but that's another unit."

::she looked at the class::

"I would like you to please take a moment and think of a job...for example a dragon keeper or a healer... considered what you do during the day and different ways you could use transfiguration. maybe transfiguring a distraction...i will call on you and you can share it with the class"

::Lifey sat down at her desk as the students pondered this::
(how do you think this is working?? *is nervous*)

::Amber walked into the class late. She slid into a seat next to Danicing.::

"What are we doing right now?"

((I think its working well Lifey ))

.: Katie walked walked in late also and took an empty seat next to Amber, however she had asked Dancing what they were doing quietly so she could answer the question, and she raised her hand quickly remindinger herself of Hermione:.

"Well it would be useful as a dragon keeper, as Professor Lifey said, becasue like someone did in the Hogwarts Triwizard tournament distracion by changing a inanimate object in to an animaite one. I also think that it would be good for a shop owner like Fred and George. For example, it would be an excellent way to attract customers with out spending gallons of Gaellons. Imagine this: you have an old wash pail lying around, the buisness is low so you decide to transform it into a huge balloon with your shops name on it! What a gimmick!"

::Lifey smiled encouragingly::

"Excellent Kaitie! Very resourceful and fairly practical. Now we've brought up an instance from the Harry Potter books; the rock into a dog to distract the dragon.
"I trust you all have you copies of the Harry Potter series with you? take them out please."

::Lifey stood up.::
"I'd like you to pick three instances from any of the books where you think Transfiguration would have been a practical, usefull thing to use and give a brief discription of what the original situation and out come was, what transfiguration you would use in that situation and why."

Dancing raised her hand again.

Scannning a page on a transfigureration class.

"Yu could use it as a threat or a distraction as said before." Dancing continued. "In GOF during the TWT, Chrum used human transfiguration to turn himself into a shark so that he could swim. His out come was the fact that he could rescuer Hermionie Granger."

::Lifey nodded::

"yes, but are there any instances where you would have used transfiguration instead? what was the situation orginally and how would you add transfiguration into that situation for a better/usuful out come?"

::Lifey realized that she worded that question strangely and hoped that the students would be able to deciper what she was asking.::

"Um maybe when...."Dancing started *wow lify tough question* "I'm sorry Professior I can't think of anything."

::Lifey smiled and shrugged::

"It's alright, just take your time and come up with something if you can, it's okay if you can't though"

::Lifey looked at her other students.::

" Can anyone else think of something? remember it doesn't matter how small it is..."

.:Katie too was stumped by the question but she raised her hand anyway, just to take a shot:.

"Well I think that an instance where transfiguration could have been used would be in SS/PS. During the whole obstacle coarse, for instance, they could of transfigured Fluffy, or the Devils Snare too. If that is a bad answer another example would be in OotP, when they were in the MoM. Ron wasn't in the right state of mind so he summoned the brain, Harry knowing something bad was going to happen could have transfigured it into something harmless."

::Lifey smiled::

"wow those are both really good examples! so, to the board we can add..."

::Lifey uncapped her marker and wrote up on the board::

-Book editing
-transfiguration could have been used by a character for protection of themselves or another

"any other ideas?"

"The times that Harry faces the Whomping Willow, instead of fighting it or running from it he could have transfigured it into something harmless, or less harmless. Also when Harry is in the MoM and he watched Sirius fall through the draps he could have changed those draps into a pillow or something to save his god father."

.: Katie totally agreed with Dancing so she raised her hand to say so:.

"I think Dancing brings up a great point. But I also think that we think diffrently in an intense situation then we would in a classroom, which is why Harry didn't do those things," said Katie.

((great class!!! so much fun!!!))

Stephy finally raised her hand to say something and sat pationally and waited to be called on. Once she was called on she said what she was thinking.

"How about in the POA when harry was around those dementors. He could have turned them into something that would have made them less harmless so that he wouldnt have to risk fainting. He could of turned them into something or turn some other item into something that they idnt like so that they would be scared away, or something." Stephy finished lamly

::Lifey nodded, thrilled with the ideas her class was comming up with::

"Excellent ideas you guys" ::She grinned:: "the only thing i will ask you to take into account is Harry's Skill level. remember things like the veil are bound to be protected by powerful magic...and it would take powerful magic to overcome the protction as well as to transfigure it."

"I'd like you each to create the spell you would you in the senarios you've all come up with just now please...and i suppose if you can't think of anything you can borrow somebody elses...but make sure you make your spell different and post waht resources you used to create the spell"

::Lifey started to turn but stoped::

"oh and don't forget to explain the meaning of the spell and what the spell does.""

.:After alot of work and thinking, Katie came up with a spell which she sahred with the class:.

"My spell would be Incohare Tutus! Which would change any dangerous object into something safe. I came up with this speel by using my English to Latin translator and translating 'turn to safe' It would make the pilar into something like a pillow as mentioned before, or a solid wall. And it would make Fluffy a little puppy, And the dmentors merely ghosts." Katie told Professor Lifey with confidence.

::Lifey grinned. she had been do ing that a lot lately ::

"awesome katie! lets here from someone else?" She looked about for someone::

"Well how about "familia cibus" which means household foods. If there was a pilar falling or something it would turn it into a cucumber, if there was something like fluffy you could turn a rock or something nearby in a piece of meat to distract it and as for the dementors you could make some sunny foods like apple and oranges and maybe theyll go away" Stephy said not too sure about the dementor part. "I use the latian forum in he to find the words." She added

"Ooh, I love your idea Stephy, that's really creative! I wish I has thought of that!"

"Well i the best that i could think of" Stephy joked.

"Better than what I thought of... well defintitly more creative!"

:I dont know about better but it was pretty funny. Thats all i could think of at the moment." Stephy told her. "Hopefully next ill think of something better." Stephy added

"Okay my spell is hicupotoums Flabergastos, which a spell that turns something into a purple penguin. Such as instead of a pillar a purple penguin and fluffy would just change into a purple cute penguin."

"Thats a good one, its even better then my." Stephy told Dancing

"Well there both really creative" Katie said wishing she had thought of there spells

Snapes_girl finally adressed the class. She was late due to being brain dead and forgetful.

"My spell is called "Finite evilalities" This spell would take the evilness out of any evil creatures for a short period of time so you could have time to stun them and get away. If Harry wants to borrow it the next time he faces the dementors, he is more than welcome!"

"That was a good one" Stephy said. "Way better then mine" she added

::Lifey felt as if she could skip at the thought of how brilliant her class was::

"you guys are awesome you know that right?" ::she smiled and paused...wanting to hear where this conversation would lead amongst her students::

"Of coarse we do.." Katie joked

Dancing smiled and said. "We shuld test out our spells and show the rest of the class how they work, so that they know how to use them also." She suggested.

"Yea, good idea," Katie agreed, "but where are we going to get dangerous items form?"

::Lifey dashed off to the defense against the dark arts classroom for a few boggarts::

"here...only i'm not sure if they'll turn into dementors...they should if you think about how scary they are though..."

Dancing nodded and opened one of the boxes Lify had brought in with her. the boggart immeditally turned into shadow that looked like it was holding a knife.

"hicupotoums Flabergastos" She yelled and it turned it into a small cudly purple penguin. "I made some expantions to the spell so you could change it into a green flamingo too, Hipuptuoms Fourlabergas, I think it will work," And she fired her new spell at the purple penguin, which turned it into a green flamingo. "Yay!"

Snapes_girl opened the box in which her boggart was. The boggart immediatly transformed into a dementor. Snapes_girl froze for a second. She could feel all the happieness being drained from within her. She shook her head quickly and focused on what she had to do. She raised her wand and pointed it at the dementor/boggart and screamed, "Finite Evilalities!" The dementor looked at her and stopped coming closer. She could feel the happieness she had coming back to her. She pointed her wand again at the creature and shouted, "Riddikulus" The dementor turned into a baby and then jumped back into it's box.

"Wow, the spell worked!" She said to her professor. "When I did my created spell the effects the dementor put on me vanished and I was able to deal with him easily!"

::Kitty rushed into the classroom, and quietly took a seat. She was aware that there was a discussion on boggarts going on and read over the blackboard about the lessons she had missed. She smiled to the teacher and then took a boggart and watched as it turned into a vampire! " Oh dear..Ki-Kitashoki!" She mumbled. The boggarts shape slowly transfigured into a cute pink kitty that was only the size of a tea cup.::She giggled then looked to Lifey incase she were going to be called on::

.: Katie watched the others do their awesome spells before she tried her own. Slowly she opened her box, and the boggart came out assuming the form of a dementor. For a few moments, Katie froze but then she realized the task at hand and yelled with all her might! Incohare Tutus! and immediatly the once petrifying dementor turned into ghosts, no more dangerous than Nearly Headless Nick. With a wave of her wand Katie turned the boggart into a wisp of smoke:.

::Lifey smiled and raised an eyebrow at the new arivals and indicated the board on which there were notes to copy::

"wonderful job all of you! i admit i wasn't sure if you could handle the casting of a 'rough spell' or a spell that you created on your own and thus is outside of ministry testing.
"However in Transfiguratio there are many such rough spells...in defense you could simply read a book and memorize the spells within and use them in a time of need...but when you need to transfigure an object...or animal...you must adjust the spell to fit the cercumstance.
"but we wander off the topic, my dears; the uses and practicality of transfiguration at work."

::Lifey paused and paced back and forth::

"Umm do we have to list the uses of transfiguration?" as Katie confused

::lifey paused again::

"well....not exactly...just the topic of this lecture is transfiguration at work...why don't we adress the practicality of using transfiguration at work? anyone want to toss out an idea?"

Snapes_girl raised her hand and waited for the Professor to call on her.

"We could work on transfigurating our own appearance. Like changing the way we look so we could go undercover."

Lise raised her her hand

"Can I ask a question please" she said smiling, "I was just wondering whether we will have classes as normal as well as this sort?"

"Professor, I thougt of another incident where transfigureation could have occured." Dancing said raising her hand. "The time just before the Yule Ball, Ron looked rather like a moron and Harry could have transfigured the dress rodes into something that looked rather nice."

"One job that uses Transfigureation daily could be any job at the MoM such as an aurour or someone who transfers paper to offices and changes them into airplanes."

"You could use transfergration like they did in the qudtwizard tournament. Like the time one of them turned a rock into a dog to distract the dragon." Stephy blurtted out

::Lifey nodded to stephy and dancing's ideas, and turned to respond to the question of classes::

"actually this WILL be the normal class format for this class, however at the end of each unit there will be a test, and at the end of each topic in a unit there will be a small quiz."

"OK, when will this quiz be so I can reveiw?" Katie asked.

"Yea when will the quiz be and how long do we have to answer it. Hopefully ill be able to get on" Stephy said

""OOOHHH A quiz. I hope I do OK."
Snapes_girl started chewing on her nails.
