| First topic message reminder :(this will be a role play style classroom lecture. Students will post in this interactive lecture and discussion. It's like going to a rpg ball in the great hall, only in the classroom. You will get up to 50 house points for participating. This lecture will be open for around two weeks, depending.) ::Lifey walked to the front of her class room, surveyed her students, then picked up the dry erase board pen and began to write on the board.:: ::She wrote: :: -Unit One Lecture/Discussion One - Transfiguration at Work ~worth 60 housepoints for participation~ -why -uses -practicality ::She then turned to face the class.:: "Welcome to Transfiguration class. While we will be using spells in class, i ask you to refrain from hexing each other, talking to each other, or being disruptive in anyway to the class." ::she paused and glared significantly at certain students:: "First we must ask ourselves; what sort of jobs would require the use of Transfiguration? Why would you use Transfiguration instead of doing something the muggle way, aside from saving time. Any ideas?" ::She raised an eyebrow and looked for raised hands::

| of course *grins* so i was thinking...stop looking at me like that, i do think you know!...so i was thinking about transfiguration and using it in a job....it's a strange concept because is it worth the salaries they are paid? of course we really don't know how much witches and wizards are paid on average for their jobs...but couldn't they just wave their wand and *BAM* the work is done in five minutes a nd take the rest of the week off.
Why could they do this, or why not? could this be a problem for the wizarding economy?

| if they did that it would take all of the fun out of the job. i think that they take thier time so that they are 100% sure that it is done right and to thier liking. if everyine did that then there really wouldnt be any work and they wouldnt need as many people to do one job too | |

| Nancy thought for a while about Lifey's last question and took a stab at an answer. "Well, what I think is in some circumstances, it would be acceptable to use just a swish of the wand to solve a problem. Arthur Weasley may have taken this approach to fix the regurgitating toilets or a similar situation. A quick quotes quill could be used to write something down needed for work while freeing up your hands to do other tasks."
She took a deep breath and focused on the not so good ways to use magic at work. "A lot of people I am sure, in the wizarding world have probably used magic to do some kind of work to speed along the process of completion. Maybe because they were tired, had to leave early for a date or just had too much firewhiskey the day before. An example of this could be instead of measuring the actual thickness of a cauldron to see if it meets the cauldron standards they could just simply zap the cauldron to the right thickness. Problem solved but not with the right way to do it."

| ::Lifey pondered this and nodded.:: "So do you personally consider using Transfiguration at work a potential economic problem for the wizarding world? or do you see it as an opportunity for more to be accomplished in one day?" | |

| Nancy nodded her head at the Professor. "I can see it being more of an economy problem than anything else. If you used magic to do everything it would put wizards out of work. We have seen this in the muggle world with new machines and computers taking over jobs that used to be worked by people." She thought for a moment on the second half of Lilfey's question. "Well, using magic to fix or make things could work for the good as well. Not only could you get more done in a single day but there would be less chance of error while fixing or making items. So I guess both points have their pros and cons." | |

| I'm on the side we should use Transfiguration and every other type of magic at work to save time. That way it would take people from boring works and direct them to other more interesting and usefull like research and development! That way instead of taking centuries to make big discories it'd take only a few years. | |

| Jesse thought and then pointed out "While transfiguration helps work go more smoothly, we have to also look at the potential problems that could occur. Like an example would be a novice trying to use more advanced transfiguration to do their work but mess things up because they can't quite get it right. Therefore, if they used it for the intention of helping out at work but they didn't know what they were doing, they could cause a disaster which would lead to a bigger issue than what they had intended on doing. Wouldn't it be best to look at Transfiguration in levels? Maybe a novice shouldn't use it in the workplace until they are capable of making less error. And a proficient wizard who is skilled and well honed in transfiguration properties would be more equipped to use it." | |
