Chapter 35

Use this thread to discuss the events in Chapter 35 of Deathly Hallows.

This was an interesting chapter. I thought perhaps the fact Harry formed the place as King's Cross was interesting. It maybe reflected the first time he made the choice to go to Hogwarts, he made the choice at King's Cross to get on that train and start the rest of his life as a wizard, and ultimately he was being given the same choice, metaphorically, in this chapter.

The strange child-creature thing was intriguing. I thought perhaps it was the piece of Voldemort's soul that had been inside Harry, ripped out and put into the form of a type of Voldie-baby from the fourth book. Dumbledore kept saying there was no help for it, and that would make sense.

It was a very sad chapter though, but I loved the frank and open conversation between Dumbledore and Harry.

Me too and I am glad that Harry got to have another conversation with Dumbledore though I wish they had hugged even though that would have made me cry. I don't know why but it would have just shown how much Dumbledore cared for him in my opinion. But I'm glad we got to see Dumbledore in the end lol!

I like that theory, and it is rather like what I thought.

I didnt know what to make of the child like creature, though I think you have hit the nail on the head with this one. Afterall, the soul is dead and out of Harry, therefore no help can be given to the dead.


It may be because it was really early in the morning and I was really tired, but I had to read this chapter a few times before I understood what was going on.

Why was Harry naked, though?

This whole chapter was amazing. The closeness and the answers finally spilling out, the love between the two men, and the fina understanding of what DD had believed all along, what he had hoped. He never wanted Harry to die, and I think, knew he wouldn;t. He knew he couldnt, not with some of his blood inside Voldemort.

"Neither can live whilst the other survives"

The soul, the blood, thats them surviving.

Its funny how there were many theories about harry being the 7th horcrux, though me, like most people, dismissed this as not happening as I personally couldnt believe that Harry would die, and although I got the horcrux bit wrong, I am happy that Harry didnt die.

It is amazing just how informative this one chapter is, and I love DD's quote at the end;

"Of course it is happening in your head, Harry, but why on earth would that mean its not real"

I loved that line too!

I am a bit unsure of what to think about where exactly this was. Was it some sort of heaven type place? Was it perhaps what is behind the veil? (Speaking of the veil, we never did find out it's mystery...)

I read an interview to JK ,and someone asked her the same question " Is it the veil" and she responded like it was a limbo between life ,and death. He wasn't dead, but he wasn't alive ether. That is how he was able to talk to dumbledore. Dumbledore himself said this " No spell can re awaken the dead harry". That being said Harry would have had to be in limbo. Jo also said that is could be ether place. It is up to the read to deside that. If you think he is in the veil, that is where he is. I personally like to think that he was in limbo.

During the live webchat i asked the question why did harry got to King's Cross and she said it was a passageway to two worlds so I also think he was in limbo

lol. I liked that she gave Dumbledore the chance to explain himself in this chapter. I was worried that Harry wouldn't be able to forgive him.

I always thought that the little "baby" thing was Voldy too. It just seemed obvious to me. I, like Harry, was scared of it though. I didn't know what it was going to do. I was so shocked when I saw Dumbledore. I didn't really expect him to be there.
