Care of Magical Creatures Practical: Part Two

Note: You can only participate in this part of the class if you have completed section one. In this thread I will keep a record of who has completed the first part.

This section requires you to use RPG to interact with a variety of creatures and situations. I will 'play' either the professor or creatures (I will always indicate what at the start of a post), and you must reply suitably to my posts. We will move through several sections of caring for magical creatures, and again I will always indicate what at the start of a post.

Double posting is not allowed, however you may post as many times as you like in between each of my questions (as long as the posts are not consecutive!)

Hopefully this is making sense, but if not then I'm sure it will become clear as we begin. Any questions, feel free to PM me.

This class will be open for a while, and points will be awarded as we go along (recorded in the following post), but will not be added to the main housepoints until the class is closed.

Professor Amy walked in front of her class, who were taking the ComC Practical. The class currently consisted of just two members: amberg93 and KatieBellaTrix.

"Welcome to the Care of Magical Creatures practical class - well done on passing the first part! This class is a little different to what we're used to, but hopefully you'll get the hang of it soon."

She then took out her wand and conjured a banner in the air.

IDENTIFYING CREATURES

"This is what we'll be looking at for a while. So, to start with let's try a couple of easy questions."

"Amber, for two points tell me which creature tells riddles?"

"And Katie, for two points can you tell me which creature likes to hunt for shiny objects?"

Amy stood back and awaited their answers.

Amber watched as Professor Amy walked into the class and smiled upon hearing her question. "The Sphinx," she replied.

Katie was so excited to try out this new class and she answered her question easily. "Niffler, Professor" she replied with confidence.

Amy smiled as both students correctly answered their questions.

"Well done, both of you!"

"Now, whilst we wait for more students to join the class, I shall introduce you to a hippogriff. I would like you to interact with the hippogriff as you have been taught to."

(Posting as a Hippogriff)

The Hippogriff walked out onto the soft green grass and stared balefully at the human standing near the fence.

Sitting on the grass were two younger humans staring at him with wide eyes.

The human standing said something that the Hippogriff didn't quite understand, then the human bowed.

The Hippogriff knew that this human meant no harm, and she was showing respect by bowing, and so the Hippogriff bowed back.

Katie stood up and was in awe of the hippogriffs stregnth and beauty. It was a little intimidating to be this close to such a commanding animals and to be honest she was a little frightened. However, she plucked up the courage and walked towards the hippogriff and her professor who were standing side by side.

Katie took a step forward and bowed low, but she was careful not to break eye contact. She stepped back and waited for the hippogriff to respond.

The Hippogriff watched warily as one of the young-humans stood up and approached him. The young-human looked nervous, but she kept eye-contact as she bowed low before him.

This was pleasing to the Hippogriff; the girl was showing him respect. He would allow her to approach him, and so he bowed low.

(Posting as Professor)

Amy smiled as Katie successfully approached the Hippogriff.

"Well done, Katie! Take five points!"

Then she turned and noticed a new addition to the class.

"Welcome, Raistlin, to the practical class. Take a seat, and perhaps tell me, for two points, one of the distinguishing features of a unicorn? And then you may join in with the Hippogriff class."

After an Outstanding theoretical class Raistlin happily approached the local where we'd be able to get a more pratical knowledge of CoMC.

As he took a seat Professor Amy asked him:

Rasitlin thought for a moment before answering picturing in his mind a beautiful unicorn running free:

"Unicorns most distinctive feature is the single horn in their heads. A unicorn's horn is extremely valuable and can be used either as a potion ingredient or in wand making."

Raistlin ended with a smile on his face.

Amber paused for a moment after she watched Katie. She was a bit scared, but knew if she did the same thing Katie had she'd be just fine. She approached the Hippogriff next, keeping eye contact before she reached a moderate distance away, just in case the hippogriff didn't bow back.

She took a deep breath before bowing low, waiting to see how she'd be preceved.

Katie was so happy the hippogriff bowed and she walked forward to pet it. She then stood back to let Amber and Raistlin try. Amber looked so nervous, but Katie knew she would be fine.

Amy smiled as Raistlin answered her question correctly.

"Well done! Take two points!"

After that, Amber approached the Hippogriff and successfully completed her task.

"Well done Amber, you've earned your five points well!

She then noticed a new student approaching the class.

"Ah, Cris, well done on passing your theory test! How about you tell the class what a Manticore is to get you started for two points?

And Raistlin, Cris, remember to complete the Hippogriff task too."

Katie watched as Cris joined the class and as Professor Amy gave them questions and invited them to get to know the hippogriff. She resumed her seat and waited for more instructions from her professor.

Cris entered the class, happy she'd mastered the first part of the task. She looked around - Amby, Katie and Rai where already there and so was the obvious subject of their studies - a hippogriff. "How beautiful!", Cris thought in awe and looked up to Professor Amy. She wondered whether she'd be allowed to go up to it. "May I?", she asked and added, "I think I've read somewhere about how it's best to approach them...". But then she heard the Proffessor's question about what a Manticore was and answered : "But of course. A manticore is a creature with a human-like head, a lion's body and the tail of a scorpion, where they keep a deadly venom. They can talk just like humans, but are rather vicious. Other than that, it might be interesting to know that they come from Greece." She paused for a second, looked questioningly at Professor Amy, then hastily added: "Oh, and their skin is virtually indestructible.. by charms, that is."

"And Raistlin, Cris, remember to complete the Hippogriff task too.", Professor Amy was reminding them. She smiled and impatiently headed to the corner where Amber had completed her practical task.
She looked into the Hippogriff's eyes - something inside them seemed to reassure her, so she walked towards it, slowly, and bowed to it. When she was close enough, she waited and peeped up to see if the animal would also bow and if it would be safe to touch it.

Raistlin grinned when Professor Amy awarded him the 2 points.

Raistlin was now merged in his thoughts that when Chris arrrived she took the lead to go near the Hippogriff.

Raistlin waited for his turn.

Amy smiled as Cris gave a near perfect answer to her question.

"Fantastic, take two points!"

Amy then watched as Cris successfully approached the Hippogriff.

"Well done again! Five points!"

Amy then turned to see several new students approaching the class.

"Welcome to you all! Welcome to: Samantha Granger, Caroru, RhiannonMei, kikso, amergin, Roberto and stephy! To get you all started, please bring me a picture of your favourite magical creature for two points. Then, you can complete the Hippogriff task.

To the others (Raistlin, Katie, Amber and Cris), you may also bring me a picture of your favourite magical creature for two points."

Roberto ran down the pebble road and stopped in awe at the Hippogriff. He saw Cris bowing in front of the magestic creature. He then started to move slowly over to Professor Amy to hand her his picture.

"Um... I got a picture of a Hungarian Horntail... My brother works with dragons and I seem to have a bond with them. They are fascinating"

Roberto holds out the picture of the Horntail for the Professor.

Roberto awaits for the Professor to respond...

June ran down to the grounds, eager for her Care of Magical Creatures lesson. She was almost there... when she realized that she'd forgotten her picture! June slapped her hand to her forehead. "Oh my god..." she groaned. "Can I get any stupider?!" June reached for her wand and raised it up. "Accio!" she cried, and waited for her picture to come to her. Come on... come on.. Yes!!! June grinned as her picture flew towards her and she plucked it out of the air. "Here Professor!!!" June called out, when she reached her teacher. She held out the picture.

"It's a phoenix," June said smiling, although that was a bit self-explanatory. She gave Professor Amy the picture and walked up to one of the hippogriffs nervously. "Um... hi..." June murmured hesitantly. She made eye-contact with the one in front of her and slowly, but steadily bowed.

Stephy ran downt to Care of Magical Creature's leeson, trying not to be any more late than what she was. After a few minutes of runnning around the grounds she finnally found the rest of the class surrounding the Teacher.Stephy walked over towards her and said "Hello Professor, I hope that you are well"

"Welcome to you all! Welcome to: Samantha Granger, Caroru, RhiannonMei, kikso, amergin, Roberto and stephy! To get you all started, please bring me a picture of your favourite magical creature for two points. Then, you can complete the Hippogriff task.

"Ooo, I have the picture right here" Stephy exclaimed as she reached deep into her robes and pulled out the picture.

"Its a red western dragon" Stephy excliamed. "I just love dragons. I try to read every book I find about them. Also my anmagus form is a red western dragon" Stephy rambled on. "Oh yes I almost forgot, now I got to do the Hippogriff part"

Stephy ran over to the half bird half horse beasts. Looking at it Stephy quickly noticed its soft shinny fur and she flet lighter than air. She knew she could do this. She just loved to be around animals and thought that she had a real connection with them. Stephy slowly approuched the creature with a huge smile on her face. She then bowed down to the creature, her face was only a few inches from the ground. Stephy than held her head up slightly to see if the Hippogriff would return the bow. Stephy felt confident that it would but if it wouldnt she knew that she would have to quickly get away.

Roberto watched as June and Steffy went up to the Hippogriff, still awaiting the teacher to give him permission to approach...

Katie watched as there class size swelled. She then reached in her bag to find the picture of her favorite magic creature.

"Hmmm...." she muttered as she rummaged. "Oh! Here it is Professor Amy!" Katie exclaimed extracting this picture.

Samantha speed walked down to where the other students were. She was so excited to finally start her CoMC practicals. Hearing the assignment, she quickly opened her messenger bag and pulled out her picture. "I've been kinda obsessed with unicorns since I was a little kid." She grinned as she turned in her picture and looked excitedly at the rest of the class, eager for her turn with the fascinating creatures.

" Excuse me porfesser sorry to interupt but can i particapate, i did the first one but i guess it was like a day to late, you had already did the points. " Emma ( i mean me like my cherector name) stood there infront of Porfesser Amy waiting for her answer, nervous.

Caro woke up with a start, and looked around bewildered.

"Oh, and no one could wake me up, eh?" she muttered, and started to search her pockets for her picture. She frowned, as she pulled up a wrinkled, dirty and slightly wet piece of paper, but handed it to Amy anyway. "Sorry, my cat *insert glare here* kind of drooled on it. I swear, it wasn't me when I watched Johnny Depp in PotC3!"

"Well, Dobby ain't exactly the most fascinating little thing, but he sure is amusing with all the beating and... well, was," Caro said, and fell silent. "May he rest in peace..." she said mournfully.

Pleased to see that she had passed the first two tasks well, Cris hurried to dig a picture out of her robes. "It's a phoenix", she said,"my favourite animal because it's just so.. free and immortal. It's fascinating. Plus, I believe keeping this picture of it with me brings me luck!"

This didn't really work out as well as I'd hoped, so I will be closing it and adding the current point totals.
