Welcome back to the new term students!! Its great to see everyone again. It only seems like yesterday that we were just starting term 4, so now let the fun begin.

Nows the time to grab your thinking caps and start to work on this new class assignment. What you need to do is create a muggle or magical plant and try to explain what would happen if you cross bread it with another plant.

Once you have chosen your two plants you will need to be about 100 (least) word paragraph explaining what this new breed of plants look like, whats it magical properties if it has any, where its located within the world, and what kind of temperature does it like.

Total: 60 points

Next you need to create a picture of what your plant looks like. This image can be created in paint or any other graphic program that you use.

Image: 20 points

Now its time to sell your plant to the community. You can either create a poster or a leaflet for it. Try to make it look like a real ad a magazine or newspaper. You can place whatever you wish on it.

Poster/Leaflet: 20 points[/color]

Part One:

Hello, this is Bella Donna Reese of The Plant Factory: we know plants. Today I am very excited to let you know about a new breed our team has just created – the Brose Bree. Combining the common rose bush with the birch tree, this thrilling new tree is everything you could ever dream in a perfect plant! Taking a step away from our normal way of breeding, which is taking two magical plants, we’ve put together two Muggle plants! If you live in North America or Europe, this plant is right for you! It will thrive there in the cool autumn air – so why wait? The Brose Bree is a beautiful addition to any home with its birch tree foundation and canopy of roses any color you desire!

Tulivy

Dear Professor Longbottom,

I thought it would be interesting if we studied a new plant that my friend Luna discovered. It’s called Tulivy. She told me she created it by breeding a tulip with ivy. Sounds cool doesn’t it? Don’t worry, I have plenty of information on it already! Like, it has green leaves with blue flowers and lives in America. It’s really common with muggles over there. But it’s magical and they don’t know it. It will open windows and steal things from the bathroom. For example, it loves to eat toilet paper and toothpaste. Sounds strange huh? Here’s the best part it survives all year round. Of coarse the flowers die but the ivy stays put no matter what. I hope we can study it.

Your Student,
Lily Luna Potter

P.S. Here's a picture of it:

Venomous Snare

For my project, I have chosen Venomous Tentacula and Devil’s Snare. I chose these two because they are both dangerous and used for certain things. Venomous Tentacula was used for something for the Weasley’s joke shop. Devil’s Snare is used to keep people away from certain things. It was used in the first Harry Potter book to keep people from the stone and in the fifth book, it was used for murder. I think, if crossed-breed, they could be really dangerous, but yet for good use. I think it would be called Venomous Snare. Grown in France, they like warm climates. They usually grow on the sides of wizard’s houses. Most wizards do that to keep unwanted people from trying to grow in or climb on the sides of the building or just getting close. From what I know about Venomous Tentacula, they reach out for people with their vines. Devil’s Snare likes damp, dark places, but seeing as it’s cross-breed, it doesn’t.

Nows the time to grab your thinking caps and start to work on this new class assignment. What you need to do is create a muggle or magical plant and try to explain what would happen if you cross bread it with another plant.

Once you have chosen your two plants you will need to be about 100 word paragraph explaining what this new breed of plants look like, whats it magical properties if it has any, where its located within the world, and what kind of temperature does it like.

The plant that I created is one that I invented for the assignment Not Every Plant Has Leaves

Quote :
Virga dottia is incredibly similar in looks to gillyweed at first glance. However, once you get a closer look, it becomes clear that the two plants are quite different. Virga dottia Is covered with yellow spots connected with black stripes. It is these differences that actually provide the algae with its defense mechanisms. When it feels threatened, the Virga dottia will release a poisonous gas from the yellow dots spread intermittently about it. The gas from these dots temporarily stun the senses-eyes go blind, the nose can’t smell, the ears can’t hear, etc. The effect wears off after about one minute, after which the attacker while generally go away. If it doesn’t get the message, however, the black stripes will poke out in short, sharp spikes. If anything from human to another alga comes in contact with these spikes, the part that touched the spike will become inflamed for three days unless treated. The enemies of the Virga dottia are the tadfoal-a young hippocampus-which likes to feed on the algae before its teeth growth in. The effect this algae has on humans if ingested is not deadly, but incredibly uncomfortable. Humans will get a sore throat and upset stomach for six hours, and then the illness usually passes. Humans are also affected by Virga dottia’s dangerous gas and spikes.

The plant that I am going to breed it with is aconite, also known as monkshood or Wolfsbane. Because I am in a very poisonous mood right now.

The new plant would be called Virganite, and will, like Virga dottia, have, at first glance, a similarity in looks to gillyweed. It is green, and covered with yellow spots connected by black stripes. In looks, it takes mostly after Virga dottia. It would, however, have cowl-like flowers sprouting all over it, like aconite. These flowers would be yellow with a black dot in the center. It will grow in the warm water, especially close to the equator. The magical properties of the plant are also quite similar to Virga dottia, but they are a bit more super-charged due to aconite’s poisonous effects. Virganite would be that it would be incredibly poisonous, and will still release a poisonous gas from the center of its flowers. The poisonous gas will stun the senses for ten minutes, due to the added boost of poison the aconite adds. It doesn’t produce spikes like Virgia dottia, but instead the same effects occur all over the plant. Now, if the Virganite is ingested, it is deadly. Death will occur in about half an hour if not treated.

Part One:

Devil Snare mixed with Mimbulus mimbletonia

The Devilmumbilatonia is a black plant that is made up of mostly what looks like black vines that have purple bumps all over them. The moment you touch this plant it will try to strangle you just like the Devil Snare would. Also like the Devil Snare as you fight with the plant the quicker it will try to choke you. The purple bumps all over the plant is a way to protect itself. Like the mimbulus mimbletonia it will spit sap at you. The sap will taste awful and make you temporary blind. This plant has two defenses the sap and the choking which it uses to capture food.
