100m HURDLES

Welcome to the 100m hurdles Please read instructions carefully before you begin


INSTRUCTIONS

The 100m hurdles is a very fast race in which each participant must finish to be awarded points.
Participants must do the following;

1. RUN - Submit a 100 word drabble based on the word 'start'
2. JUMP - Submit an avatar (icon) of 100x100 based on the word 'jump'
3. RUN - Sumit a half drabble (50 words only) using the words 'breathe' and 'eye' within it
4. JUMP - Submit a piece of artwork (either drawn by hand or in paint - though if in paint must be like a drawing with a pencil or paintbrush tool) showing this event
5. RUN - Submit a final 100 word drabble based on the following picture:

Each part 1-5 MUST be posted in order AND in a different post. Double posting is allowed!

You must complete all 5 parts to finish the race otherwise you will only get half participation points and wont be elligible for voting on some parts or medals.

Start drabble...

"WHAT?!" Matthew screamed turning around to the annoying fan boy, he'd been following him all day now and it was just plain nerve grinding.
The little boy looked stunned by the sudden outburst but didn't look like he was going to give up...
"Sir.. I.. wanted to tll you that the hurdles is going to start soon... in like 20 seconds, and your walking further away from the event.." the boy looked at him his eyes solidly fixed on Matthew...
"STARTING? 20 SECONDS?" Matthew exclaimed at the boy knowing it wasn't his fault but it felt good to shout now.
"15 seconds now..." the boy corrected him...

Half Drabble

The cold air clung to his face as he ran through the garden, his eye's stinging with tears. He couldn't be dead, he could have taken taken his last breath. Jamie had just walked in on his father, takeing his last breath, eye's still opened and full of remorse.

She is the apple of his eye: perfect. I used to tell myself that it's her fault he ignores me. It was easier, hating her and loving him. But now, at the worst possible moment, I realize I've always loved my sister as I wish she'd open her eyes and breathe.

Her heart pounded as the stopwatch kept track of the seconds that were slipping away. Even though this was only make believe, her hands were sweating and her lips were in desperate need of chapstick.

"I..." Her voice trailed off as she cursed herself. How did she expect to do this when she couldn't get past the first word?

"I... I…” It could only go slower when it happened.

She glanced at the stopwatch once more… almost a minute, now.

“I love you!” she finally burst out.

Her dog whined in the chair, tilting its head. ‘I’m hungry,’ it thought.

"Don't bloody start, Dru!"

"Daddy's coming home, oh yes he is. He played with sunshine and it burnt. Pretty little girl took the light from his heart and gave him back to us."

The brunette clapped her hands together in delight, and span around the room, ignoring both Spike and the Judge as she continued to mutter to herself.

“Miss Edith whispered in my ear…Heart and Spirit and Mind will try to take him from us, my William, but he is our feast, not theirs. We can start again.”

“What’re you yammerin’ ‘bout this time, Dru?”

The vampire ignored him, turning instead to the door of the factory.

“Daddy’s home.”

Pretence

A half-opened eye. Too bright.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Don’t panic.

Better to stay still.

Pretend.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Men in white coats and grinning ladies with pointy needles.

Lie still. Don’t move.

No more, please no more.

Tight-shut eyes and slow breaths.

No need to panic.

Just pretend.

Every Night

There hadn’t been enough time.

That was all it came down to. Not enough bloody time.

She haunted his dreams, came to him every night after he’d sought solace in a bottle of Jack.

And every night he saved her.

He climbed the steps of the tower just a little bit faster.

He got to Doc just a little bit sooner.

He punched the prat just a little bit harder.

He got to Dawn just a little bit quicker.

And Buffy didn’t die.

Every night he saved her.

He had time.

Matthew ran down the road, his feet pounding, his heart thudding, his face redder than normal...
'One minute your there, the next minute your slowing sinking into something below....'
Matthew ran on. he had to see, he had to tell... this was his only chance, his last chance....
"Come on, come on..." he whispered to himself... he felt like he was running the 3 minute mile...
He closed his eyes and ran on anyway, it couldn’t get harder than this.. It had reached his climax, but he’d kept running on… nothing worse could happen now…

1..drabble.

She waited beside the bleachers, waiting for the meet to begin. The crowds applauded with anticipation for the competition, forcing her to turn away, disgusted with all the cheerfulness. All she wanted to do was run. She wanted to run alongside others who loved to run as she did. She could feel the strain of her muscles, pushing past their limits to go faster; her eyes watering from the small breeze that turned into a whirlwind on the track; the rush of the grass as she outran all of her problems and fears…
She closed her eyes, waiting to begin.

She sat alone in the forest, straining her ears.
Finally she heard him, twigs breaking as he sprinted through the trees. She didn’t know why he ran; it didn’t matter. She heard ragged breathing, betraying tears that ran freely from eyes hidden in darkness. But she didn’t move to help him.
She just sat and listened.

5..final drabble.

Lauren sat unblinking, waiting. She held a small white timer in her hand and stared at it with brows furrowed. Why was it going so slow?
Her head started getting dizzy as she stared at the sluggish hand moving across the face.
Oh, right. She forgot to breath.
She took a deep irritated breath and started tapping her foot.
“Patience is a virtue.” Countless times this was said.
But Lauren didn’t consider herself impatient. The rest of the world was just too slow.
The timer counted down the last few seconds three, two, one… and gave a sharp buzz.
“Cookies are ready!” Lauren announced, springing up cheerfully.

This event is now closed. Judges are voting for winners of the three writing parts and the artwork and icon parts are going up for the vote.
