Everyone has their own opinions of a book, but reading others opinions can help determine whether we go out and buy that book, and we all know how expensive books can be.

This thread can be used to post reviews of books you have read. It can be about any book provided it is suitable to talk about on the board. The review should include the following things.

Title
Author
Summary of the book
Rating out of 10

Remember not to make the summary too detailed. We don’t want the ending of the book to be given away.

Blackbird
Jennifer Lauck
A story of a lost childhood in America when a young girl's mother dies of an awful disease. She and her older brother are left with their dad who then becomes married again to a cult loving insane mother of four.
This is such a sad childhood with many twists and turns, an autobiography of the author.

Deathscent
Robin Jarvis
England has been divided into islands floating in the Outer Darkness, connected by massive chains and only accessible by airborne ships called nightboats. Brindle's nightboat crashes into one of the islands, and by doing so he sets off an incredible chain of events that culminate in him having to reveal a secret he wished to keep safe. (This summary doesn't justify the book by any means)

Warriors Series

This series is about a cat who lives in a house with humans and is then invited to join a clan in the forest. He has fun learning how to be a warrior with his friend Graypaw. This series does not sound so good when I summarize it, but it is the second best book series I have ever read. (Harry Poetter being the first)

Spirit Gate by Kate Elliott

In the spirit of true epic fantasy, Spirit Gate follows the lives of four individuals as they are forced into strange environs of The Hundred and beyond, and to hold to what they know in the fight for justice in uncertain times, they must follow paths better left untread. This land is one of merciless gods, slaves, and the forgotten realm of justice, and a must-read for the epic fantasy fan.

That's about the most general summary ever. It starts slow, but really starts to pick up about 100 pages into its 630 page mass. Love it!

8.5/10.

The Bone Garden by Tess Gerritsen

This book takes place in the present day, with flashbacks to Boston in the 1830's. It all starts when Julia, a newly divorced woman finds a skeleton on the property of an old home she has recently purchased. Because the skeleton is over a hundred years old and was buried before the house was built, it's not a matter for the police. In order to discover the identity of the skeleton, Julia teams up with an elderly man who may have letters and news articles dating from that time. The book then delves into Boston in 1830, where medical students are learning anatomy from stolen corpses, and the streets are being haunted by a killer. The fate of the skeleton and the identity of the serial killer are entwined in a complex and mysterious way, and the dark past will affect Julia's present life.

My Rating: 10/10! I loved the historical references, especially the medical aspects and the Resurrectionists (a term for grave robbers). This is the first book by Gerritsen that I've read that wasn't part of the Rizzoli and Isles series, although Dr. Maura Isles does make a brief appearance in the first chapter.
