BILLIE PIPER does her best impression of Sarah Connor in The Terminator as she storms through the streets with a huge gun to battle the Daleks.

But things are looking bleak for the Doctor as his lifeless body lays sprawled on the ground.

The dramatic scenes are an exclusive glimpse of the new series of Doctor Who, which airs later this year.

The Doctor (David Tennant) is blasted by a flying Dalek and ex-assistant Rose (Billie) tries to revive him.

The spectacular Dalek invasion of Earth was filmed in the early hours of yesterday morning on the streets of Cardiff.

Captain Jack (John Barrowman), new assistant Donna (Catherine Tate), old travelling companion Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) and Rose’s mum Jackie (Camille Coduri) were also on the set.

My favorite scene has got to be where Donna and the Doctor are conversing silently through the glass, mouthing away like idiots, in full view of the people in the room between them - priceless.

Ooh, and what was UP with Rose standing around and disappearing? Niiice. I wasn't expecting her to show up so soon!

I loved it! When I first heard that Catherine Tate was becoming the S4 companion last year, I was dead set against the idea. I hated her in The Runaway Bride and was really dreading what she'd do to my favourite TV show...well, having watched her in PiC, I think I was wrong for making such a snap judgement. She did well, they've toned the character down (CT got a better haircut ) - and the banter between Donna and the Doctor was great.

The story was a bit silly - and it reminded me of the plot to the Torchwood book I've just read, which had an almost identical set up - a pill that makes you lose weight with unfortunate side-effects. So that jarred with me a bit, but Sarah Lancashire played a great baddy (with none of her nasally screeching from her Corrie days!). The adiposes were so cute! They reminded me a lot of the milk carton from Blur's great Coffee and TV video - and who else thinks they'll make some sort of soft toy out of them? :D

The mime scene at the windows was so good - very funny and a great way for the Doctor and Donna to be re-introduced. Donna's mum reminded me a of a slightly posher Jackie, and Donna's grandad was great.

Also, did anyone else have to do a double-take at the journalist Penny to begin with - she looked quite a bit like Freema!

Then...ZOMGSQUEE ROSE! I'd kind of already been spoiled that she'd appear at the end of this episode (thanks, Bex) but still, when she turned around and the Doomsday music started playing I got chills down my spine. And then she just disappeared! What's going on? Did she know the Doctor was nearby? Was her being there a coincidence? She didn't look too happy...argh, I wonder how long before she'll make another appearance?

Only two things I really did not like about this episode - the new title music and the crappy effects on the ending shot with Donna and the Doctor in the TARDIS in the sky. But Wilf doing a little dance made up for that

I'm so excited about the rest of the series (and the fact that I get to see the next two episodes as they air and not on a download two days later!)

I thought that journalist was Freema to begin with!

And anyone have any ideas on the ending with Rose yet?

As for Rose at the end...well, she works for Torchwood in her alternate universe, so perhaps she's using some sort of alien tech to get through like the Doctor did in Doomsday?

Now, if the episodes were set in Cardiff, I'd say that she came through the rift

Apart from that, I'm all out of ideas...I'm sure whatever it is Rusty has planned will be amazing.

Doctor Who preview: A Sontaran invasion

It's mixed blessings for the Doctor this week as he gets not one, but two blasts from the past.



Ah yippy ay oo
The episode begins with Martha Jones calling the Doctor back to Earth for help with her latest case. Now a qualified doctor herself and working for UNIT, Miss Martha is investigating a string of strange deaths relating to Atmos Systems, the new world-wide sat nav system. We learn the identity of Martha's boyfriend fianc?, and here's a hint: it's someone we've met before.

The Sontaran Strategem
Hiding behind the machiavellian machinations are the Sontarans, the self-proclaimed "finest soldiers in the galaxy", but with the unfortunate physical affliction of looking liked baked potatoes. The Doctor has encountered this race before - they featured in the classic series in the 1970s - and knows their weakness, which he exploits to good effect. A hint: it's a trick John Smith would have easily mastered.

The Enemy Dances
Guest stars this episode include Ryan Sampson as a brainy teenager working for the Sontarans who commits the ultimate act of betrayal; and Christian Cooke, last seen as Jason Donovan's brooding son on Echo Beach, but this time playing a young soldier who gets to be the Doctor's "Assistant" for a short while. Bernard Cribbins is also back as Donna's granddad Wilf after she makes a tough decision.

So did you all notice Rose for that one second. I am sure you all did, but it was awesome. I can't wait to see her back.

Oh and can't wait for the next ep....I mean his daughter....finally. I mean in the old school doctor who he had a granddaughter so its about time they showed his actual child lol.

I actually squeed when I saw Rose flash up on the monitor for that second :D

Next episode looks good, it'll be interesting to see how the Doctor reacts to finding out he's both the mother and father of his daughter.
