The Winter Ball

~Fated's eyes too lived up to his house's mascot; beady and as mysterious as the great serpent, almost unblinking as he looked at Sara~

~His hand slowly slid into the pocket of his robe, his eyes never breaking contact with the girl~

::Sara had spotted him, he didn't break eye contact.::

::was this a challenge? a confrontation?::

::and where had she seen him?::

::Sara raised an eyebrow briefly before morfing her face to a falsly cheering and demure expression. She smiled, although it did not reach her eyes and inclinded her head delicately towards him acknowedging his presence.::

~Fated nodded his head slightly to her as he pulled out his wand. And slowly, he began to walk towards her with a confident stride, and a smile that was more mischevious than fake, crossed his features. There was a flicker of light that swept past his blue eyes but it was gone in an instant~

::Sara had to smile at the look on his face. It look so much like her younger brother when he was about to be grounded. Her younger brother....her thoughts wavered and she could feel tears threaten to overflow for a milisecond, but it was gone before anyone noticed.::

"Hello." ::She said, seeing that he was obviously heading in her direction. her eyebrow raised even higher as she observed the wand held in his hand.::

~Fated stopped as he was only a foot from her and nodded~ "Hello." ~He replied in a rather low tone. Then he raised his wand and reached out and grabbed her hand tapping the tip of his wand against her wrist. There was a sparkle of rainbow light and then a white corsage appeared on her wrist.~ He twirled his wand and then put it away and let go of her hand slowly~ "A lovely young woman such as yourself shouldn't arrive to a ball deprived of a corsage." ~He said as he smiled again with a mischevious twinkle to his blue eyes~

::Sara looked rather touched by the gesture.::

"why thank you." ::she smiled slightly.::

::she glance around a little.::

"i wasn't really planing on comming here, i mean... i missed most of the school year this year, so i've lost touch with a few of my friends. I've only known them a couple years anyway. How has your evening been?"

::her gripped losened from her wand and she forced herself into a less tense state of being.::

~He relaxed a little as he observed her loosen her grip on her wand.~ "I just arrived a few moments ago. I was off on some...business."~ He paused then cleared his throat. "You were gone for part of the year? So was I."

~He recalled how he'd been training hard to strengthen his power of the Dark Arts but knew that he must not alert anyone of his true nature~

::Sara thought for a moment, how her parents had been killed as they visited their former home in America. killed by death eaters. How then she had spent several months with the order...her mission....::

::Sara looked back up at him.::

"really?" ::She sounded interested. He seemed like he had a story to tell...but she was certain he didn't want to tell it.:: "My case, i thought, was unusual...what happened?"

~He looked a little uncomfortable at first but then forced a slight chuckle.~ "I was off training to- I mean I was on vacation; a learning vacation." ~He stumbled over his words. There was no way he would admit that he had been accompanying Death Eaters and the Dark Lord. He cleared his throat. He couldn't reveal anything about himself that would be too risky. "So...what's your name?" He asked slowly unsure of what else to say~

*Scarlet wonder over to where Fated and Sara where standing.*
"Hi" she said in the kindest way she could getting her sweet side across was pretty hard

~He turned slightly to the other girl who had approached, rather relieved that she had arrived~ "Hello." ~He replied nodding to Scarlet~

"I'll see you later, Sky."

Spotting Scarlet, Zexion gets up and strides over to her.

"Hello Scarlet."

Nods his head in turn to the other two.

~Fated nodded slowly to the newcomer though kept his guard up~

DAni walked back into the ball putting away her wand and tucking a strand of loose hair behind her ear

~The music was soothing for the moment and Fated decided he would grab a drink to quench his thirst. So he did just that and stood at the refreshment table sipping his drink~

::Sara thought she caught a slip up, but ignored it.::

"er okay...welll.." ::but he dissapeared.::

::She caught sight of him again, and decided to join him.::

"i'm Sara, Sara Marsh if you were wondering." :she said.::

~Hearing the girl speak he turned around and looked to her~ "Fated Deathes." He replied slowly as he shook her hand.~

::Mentally Sara raised an eyebrow, wondering why someone would name their child with such a dark sounding name.::

::Sara smiled and shook his hand.::

"So, have you always attended Hogwarts?" ::She asked, striking up a conversation.::

~He quickly looked to the floor and nodded slowly~ "Yes.." he lied for he had not ever set foot in Hogwarts except for this year and that was only cuz the Dark Lord had plans for him to carry out~

::Sara wondered why he looked away, but did not press the matter.::

"well this is my second year here...but seeing as i've missed about half of this year when i had to go back to..." ::she also trailed off.::: "well i like it here."

"I come and go when I'm needed..." He said unable to stop himself from replying. Then quickly he gestured to the dance floor~ "Would you like to dance?" He asked hesitantly~

::Sara ,who was keen on the idea of figuruing out his personality, accepted.::

"alright." ::She said with a nod. Picking up the hem of her dress slightly, so that she wouldn't step on it.::

::she followed him as they walked away from the drink table.::

~They walked to the dance floor and then bowed slightly to her~ "Shall we?" He asked trying to keep his tone pleasant; which was hard because he was used to being rude and cold and this whole nice act wasn't one of his best things~

::Sara gave a nod stiffly. She knew when she was being lied to, and this was one of them. Her keen eyes gazed at is face as she tried to decern his thoughts.::

"Indeed." ::she said with a plesant smile.:: "Lovely music yes?"

~He nodded, though he couldn't relax and he was tense as he danced with her~ "It's nice...music."

~He stumbled twice in his dance steps and nearly stepped on her foot. This was quite bothersome but showing his true colors now would be a bad idea~

"The Dark Lord better appreciate me going through all this..." he mumbled under his breath hoping no one heard him~

::Sara choked and tripped over her own feet, and probably his too.::

"the dark WHO?" ::She hissed, her eyes wide and her face trying not to look as accusatory and questioning as it did at the moment.::

::She took a step away so that she could better read his expression.::

~He gasped realizing she HAD heard him and then shook his head~

"Sorry...it's something that just slipped out...I heard it before you know...and I just repeated it because I remember the person who last said it." ~ He said~
~He wondered if she was going to believe him~

::She stared at him.::

"If that pathetic excuse actually IS true then what you are saying is that you'd rather serve the dark lord than socialize with me, and if it was a lie, and i'm almost certain it is, it means you serve the dark lord, which means that i do not want to socialize with you." ::She observed him for a moment before nodding her head slightly.::

"good evening." ::and she turned and headed back towards the drinks, but made a mental note to keep an eye on him; who knows what usuful information she could get for the order.:

~Fated shook his head and walked over to Sara again~ "Forget what I said, it was nothing." ~He said sharply~

::Sara cringed at the sharpness in his voice. She turned and looked him in the eye, trying to figure him out.::

::She sighed and nodded in agreement.::

"alright fine. i still don't understand it though."

"Look, I...I have trouble remembering things from time to time and sometimes memories...bad..ones return to me and I..." ~He suddenly realized for once he was partly telling the truth and he shook his head.~

::Sara looked up into his eyes and nodded in understanding, her own eyes feeling damp from emotion.::

"I kind of...understand." ::She said quietly, looking to the floor.::

~He sighed then looked around slowly, he could feel other death eaters around, yet didn't see them and this made him uncomfortable~

~He stepped closer to Sara and whispered~ "I think you're being watched..."

::Sara's body tensed again at his words. She was always on guard, and after what she had been through with her family, the slightest of warnings would send her on high alert.::

::her face the epitimy of cheerful happiness, she whispered back in a hushed voice.:: "by whom and why?" ::although she had a fairly good idea about both.::

:Mila walked slowly into the beautifully decorated Great Hall. She tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear and wandered over to a table, her dark blue dress swaying with her and dropped her belongings onto it:

:She looked around for someone she knew:

~He watched a few figures shifting around in the shadows and looked back to her~" By...my compainions...who are, like me, servants of the Dark Lord...Death Eaters..." ~He whispered slowly~

::Sara took a deep breath, and kepts up the facade of cheerful chatting::

"death eaters... i knew it....but.......why...are you telling me?" ::She said, dropping her voice for her question.::

"Let's just say I prefer not to have a nice, pleasant evening ruined and since you don't seem to pose a threat to me, I don't see why I should harm you." ~He replied with a slight grin~

::Sara nodded.::

"fair enough. Truce for now, but later we are still on different sides, lets make that clear right now." ::although she said it rather half heartedly. She knew fighting against someone she had spoken to would be a lot tougher than fighting someone who you hated because of the robes they fought under.::

"but...it would seem that they are determined on making a stirr this evening...any ideas?" ::She asked, referring to how they should handle potential death eater attacks.::

"Many of them won't attack unless I give them the signal however a selective few I do not trust...and I have been a couple of enemies among them"

~He then sighed~ "A truce it is for now but as you said, we are on opposite sides so yes that is clear."

::Sara couldn't help but wonder why he was telling her all of this. She now knew that he was a high ranking death eater, who could signal to have them attack her...which implied that this was a prearranged thing. Also he was not in total control over them.::

"So...i'm supposed to feel safe now?" ::She asked wryly, raising an eyebrow.::
