Yule Ball

In the time-honoured tradition of Hogwarts, we present to you our Yule Ball.

The Great Hall is a resplendant palace of ice, with iridescent lights and sparkling snowflakes all around.

If you participate in the Yule Ball, you can earn housepoints for the following categories, with a maximum of 60 points per person available:
· Outfit: description, picture, doll
· Music Suggestions
· Participation
· RPG style and creativity

Rose blinked. Carefully, she sat the flower back down. "I'm sorry, you probably think I'm annoying. I like to blabber about stuff like that. Skie always tells me it's a bad habbit I need to break."

"It's ok, I'm just a bit... preoccupied with my thoughts at the moment."
"And don't anyone even open their mouths in there!" Shadow said in her mind. She forced another smile at Rose.

"Oh." Rose bit her nails. "OK. Well, I guess I'll see you around. IT was very nice to meet you." Rose, being from Japan and all, bowed before Shadow. Then, she lightly tiptoed back into the castle, waving over her shoulder.

Shadow bowed in return. Rose was a nice girl, but Shadow couldn't get close to anyone. Her father would use that against her. She stood outside, staring at the moon, and a single tear escaped the corner of her eye.

Rose glanced over her shoulder, and could have sworn she saw a tear run down Shadow's cheek. Frowning, Rose stopped, wondering if she should go back. She shook her head. No, Skie was waiting for her, and it seemed as if Shadow should have some alone time. Rose wanted to know her story, why she was so, different and unique. But getting into other peoples business was rude. If Shadow wanted to tell her she would have. Obviously, she wanted to keep to herself, which Rose thought was quite fine to. Sighing, she took another sip of Firewhisy and walked over to her other friends.

Shadow angrily wiped the tear away.
"There is no point giving Father a new way to get to me. I should go back." Shadow turned and strode back inside. Tonight was the Yule Ball, so there was no point in resembling Moaning Myrtle!

After 20 minuets of circle dancing Zelda was quite sweaty and thirsty , so she went over to get a drink. " I just want some water" , Zelda said and the tender gave her some water. she took her water to a corner and sat down in a chair to cool down. " Man that was fun" she thought as she watched everyone have fun. Rose had just walked in and she looked concerned and then a couple minuets later Shadows walked in. Zelda could tell that there was something troubling her. She just sat there thought seeing as both Rose and Shadows had came from the same place.

Shadow sat down again at an unoccupied talbe, deciding to sit and collect her thoughts.

Zelda's eyes followed Shadow and she watched her with care.

Shadow felt that some one was watching her and looked around

Rista walked over to Shadow and just plopped down beside her. "Hey. What's up?" Rista asked, bluntly.

"Nothing, just lost in my own thoughts."

"Well, if you ever want to talk, I'm here. And I have an open mind," Rista added, smiling.

"I'll keep that in mind." Shadow smiled.

"So, what do you think of the dance?" Rista asked.

"It's cool. The ones I used to have to go to were always the boring type. I hated them, here, you can do what ever you want. What do you think of it?"

"I'm having a blast," Rista replied. "That circle dance was a lot of fun. Great music, too!"

"It's a lot better than the stuff I normally listen to. I was afraid of mucking that dance up... Luckily enough, I didn't!"

Zelda decided to go sit by Rista and Shadows so she went over there. " How you all" Zelda asked.

"Fine, you?"

" Tired" Zelda said with a hafe smile.

"I'm not surprised."

"So," Rista started looking mischevious. "If you were to pick anyone here to ask you to dance, who would it be?"

"I don't do that kind of thing."

"Oh," said Rista with a slight pout. "I was just trying to think of a way to entertain ourselves that wouldn't consist of us moving our bodies rapidly." Then she laughed and said, "Oh well. I'm hungry. That circle dance really increased my appetite."

Shadow smiled. "where I come from, looking at boys isn't allowed."

"Oh?" Rista asked, puzzled. "Where's the fun in that? My mum and dad always encouraged it. Well, my mum did. My dad was rather hesitant on the subject."

"I wasn't raised in a place where fun was what it should have been. It was all reading and quiet meditation."

"Well, reading can be fun. It's nice to get caught up in a world apart from this one," Rista mused. "And it's nice to sit and have peaceful meditation, but I think everyone needs a little excitement. I would probably spend a lot of time depressed if I didn't have excitement in my life."

"Maybe, but I never knew anything different. Come on, let's go and get something to eat."

Rista stood up, ignoring the fact that Shadow had, as usual, steered the conversation away from the topic of her upbringing. "What sounds good to you? I hope they have more than just junk food," Rista said, holding her growling stomach.

"Me too, my stomach may be as strong as steel, but that stuff makes me vomit. Who's for salad?"

"Ooh that sounds yummy. I want some shrimp scampi, too. And a baked potato!" Rista said, excitedly. Then she blushed. "Sorry. I like food."

"I can tell. Doesn't matter." Shadow headed for the buffet laid out.

Rista grabbed a plate, and started to pile large amounts of food on it. "Ooh, sushi!" She exclaimed. She picked out a few of her favorite pieces and piled them on her plate as well.

Shadow also picked up a plate and started to put various things onto it, creating a small salad. Shadow watched Rista pile things onto her plate and smiled.
I think I may have found a friend...She thought to herself.

Rista was glad to see Shadow smiling. Making friends was her favorite thing to do. Her exceptionally small family had caused in her the desire to pull as many people close to her as possible.

Shadow realised that Rista was watching her.
"What's up?" She asked.

"Sorry. It's just nice to see you smile. I've not seen it often," Rista replied, shrugging. Then she added, "I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable. I'm good at that."

"It's ok, I've offlined my magic for the night so that I can enjoy it. Normally, I can't show or feel emotion out of fear of blowing something up. For now, I can feel what ever I want." Shadow looked gratefully at Rista.

"That's great!" Rista said smiling. "Come on, let's sit down. I'm starving."

Shadow followed Rista through the crowds to their table.

Between bites, Rista decided to get to know her new friend. Or what she hoped was a new friend. "So. What do you like to do? I know you said that you were never allowed to have fun, but is it the same here?"

"It is mainly the same, I kept to the same habit that I had learnt when I was younger. So I suppose that you could say that it's the same here."

"Oh. Well, what kind of books do you like to read? Have you ever read any muggle books. I've got a few you can borrow. Some of them have rather amusing ideas of what witches and wizards are like," Rista chattered away.

"I read books on magic mainly, I never had any fiction books, it was all about learning."

"Ah," Rista replied. She wasn't getting very far yet, but she was determined to find something Shadow could open up about. Even if it's only something simple. "Well, do you have a favorite band?"

"No, again, no time where I come from."

"What was it like where you grew up?" Rista asked. "I know it wasn't a whole lot of fun, but what was the area like. Did you have decent weather? Were there any gardens?" She didn't want to push into areas that would make Shadow uncomfortable, but she wanted to make her know that someone cares about her as a person.

"It was beautiful, the city was made of towers that seemed to be made of gold in the morning sunlight. All around the city stretched fields of grass. I don't really know much else. All I knew was the tower that I lived in."
