Twilight The Movie: General Discussion

Yeah..I saw that a couple of days ago. The link they gave had a very small pic of him, not a very good one so you couldn't really see what he looked like, but now there are some new pics up on the lexicon news blog.

I wish the Twilight Lexicon was more like Leaky or MN in terms of news updates and organisation...you have to scroll back through days worth of news to find pictures etc.

I'm really looking forward to this movie. I'm just not sure how I feel about some of the casting decisions. Actually, most of the casting decisions. I'm sure it will be good, though.

Dude, that KID is playing Jacob Black? He looks like a ten year old! Jacob is supposed to look old for his age - not a midgety little kid!

Okay I am not too big on the Cullen cast. Especially not Edward (dang Hufflepuff...not that I dont like Hufflepuffs...just that one). I will admit though Jackson Rathbone, who IMDB says is Jasper is kinda cute. lol.

The casting really does make me afraid though....if they ruin the movie I will cry!

Not too big a fan of the Jacob casting. I mean, I can see him for Twilight, but if they do New Moon and Eclipse they're either going to have to beef him up a bit, or find an older actor...

As much as I loved Twilight, I'm not sure I want to see the film. I just don't understand the direction they are taking with a lot of it. I think I'll just have to sit back and wait until other people have seen it before I decide to see it or not.

Okay... the hair.. *winces* I agree, Gin. I think they had the right idea, but over-styled it.

He looks like a live action anime lumberjack. That's all I'm saying.

When I first saw that he was playing Edward I was apalled, but now? There's no word for the way I feel about the casting decision.

Appalled is an understatement of how I felt once I saw that he had been cast as Edward.

But recently he's sort of been growing on me.

And then I see pictures like that and I remember why I was so disappointed to begin with

Wow, I've been keeping up with the news on the movie every day. Me and a bunch of my friends are going to see it on opening day.

.......but it's going to SUCK. I hate EVERYONE that they casted. I mean really. I'm very sad they made such poor choices in characters. It's such a waist. But thats just my opinion. And also about 7 other people.

The more I see of all the interviews and previews the more I like the cast. I was hesitant at first, when all the announcements were made, but after all the videos etc. I'm getting to like who they've cast more and more.

The only one I don't think is great is Charlie - he looks too young and good looking!

I saw an interview with the guy they've got playing Jacob earlier, and even he doesn't look too bad - he has a long wig :D

I wouldn't condemn it yet...who knows, it might be great.

hmmmm.....I personally don't think anyone is good looking. Expecially what's his face they have for Edward. I again personally think he is REALLY ugly

I know everyone is anxious to hear some updates on the movie. I've been too crazy busy to do a lot of blogging about it, and then I've also been afraid of spoiling anything for those who want to be surprised. So I'll just tell you a few short, non-spoiler stories and give you one new picture:



This is me with the humans—who don't get enough love—and director Catherine Hardwicke in the "Forks" high school cafeteria. I got to watch the filming of several key lunch scenes, and see how amazingly well the actors were portraying those human characters. Watching them be Mike and Eric and Jessica and Angela and Tyler made it feel strangely like it all might just be real—which was a crazy feeling. So the humans get two thumbs up from me. And Greg (Tyler) wants us all to know that Bella would definitely choose a guy with an awesome van over some vampire.

Funny story: on April first, I got to watch as they shot Bella's first scene in the hospital (after the above mentioned van careened into her) with Charlie (Billy Burke) and Carlisle (Peter Facinelli). Between takes, Peter came back to the monitors where I was hanging out with Nikki Reed (Rosalie), and producers Greg Mooradian and Gillian Bohrer. Nikki and I were talking about how Kellan Lutz (Emmett) kept eating during the Cullen's cafeteria scenes (Kellan is always hungry) and how the editors would have to cut around that. Greg asked the question many of you have asked: what happens to food eaten by a vampire? (He referenced the infamous bite of pizza Edward takes in the book.) I explained the icky truth—they eventually have to cough it back up. Peter was listening to all of this very quietly, and then he and I had the following conversation (I'm paraphrasing, because I don't have a vampire's perfect recall):

PETER: So vampires would never eat food, unless they are trying to fool humans? They would never eat at home?

ME: No, of course not.

PETER: Huh.

ME: Why do you ask?

PETER: Well...when we were filming one of the scenes in the Cullen house, Esme brought me a bowl of Raisin Bran. I was eating it through the whole scene. I don't think they could cut around it, because I was chewing through some of my lines... I guess that wouldn't make a ton of sense for Carlisle to do, though, would it?

ME: (slightly panicky) Er, no. It really wouldn't.

PETER: Oh, well.

ME:

PETER: And also, April Fool's.

(The part I can't covey here is how convincing he was. Peter is, after all, an excellent actor. He got Kristen/Bella at dinner, too, so I wasn't the only one.)

6 fun facts from the set:

1) While watching the playback from a very intense scene with Bella and Edward, the girl next to me literally slid right out of her chair—I think her bones melted. She also may have stopped breathing for a few seconds, too. I know I did.

2) Mike Welch can dance.

3) Hugging Kellan Lutz is the closest you can get to hugging a vampire; he is made of granite. (But please do not try to hug Kellan without his permission. Thank you.)

4) Portland is too cold. For anyone. But especially for Arizonans.

5) Jackson Rathbone can really play the guitar. Our taste in music is not exactly the same, but we found common ground with Radiohead's Creep, with which he then serenaded me.

6) As you might guess, I do a lot of internal swooning on the set. However, I have an excellent poker face.

To conclude, I would like to make a few comments about Rob and Kristen, who are the true heart of this movie. First, they are both amazing actors. Second, they are channeling Edward and Bella like nobody's business. Third, you might want to bring a paper bag to the movie, because their on-screen chemistry may cause hyperventilation. That is all.

Ah yeah I saw that the other day and the Twilight vs. HP thing annoyed me as well. Just because they are both fantasy franchises and share an actor, why pit them against each other? They are both brilliant in their own right, no need to try and create an atmosphere when there's no need for one.

Me too. But they wheren't being to mean to HP. At least Jasper said they had aswom brooms.

But the way MTV is starting to promote Twilight is by 'pitting it against' Harry Potter. I don't think there's any need for it; it'll just engender bad feeling between the two franchises and fandoms. I know there's already a lot of Twilight vs. HP on forums and fansites so with the official film people doing it is well. Ah, I dunno, it just doesn't sit right with me.

I see why they are doing it though, it does make a lot of sense. A lot of people do love HP so what better way to draw more attention to the Twilight franchise then to pit it against it? It's a brilliant strategy because it's going to get the publicity that they are aiming for. Plus it's going to draw in a lot of interest of not only the media but also the most important people, which would be us as customers. It's naturally going to make us all curious about the film and the books.

Yeah, that's true - but it'll get the Twilight fans who hate HP going for sure (and there are plenty!)

It's good to see that Stephenie herself is a fan of HP - I've read something in the past couple of days where she said she'd love to sit down and have a chat with Jo.

August and November/December seem so far away!

I'm not saying it's a good thing XD

I'm just saying you've got to admire the great thinking behind it XD

According to the new Shock Til You Drop video, the film opens with scenes of the Cullens hunting animals.

I think that is an excellent way to start the movie. It will really make you wonder..... well, people who havent read the book of course! haha

Hmmm, I don't know. It's definately a shocking start. I guess as long as it's not to gruesome it'll be okay- yes I realize that it's a bit ironic of me to NOT want gratuitous violence.

I just have to keep remembering to judge the movie seperate from the book.... I am trying! XD

Whoa. I just have to drop in and say that, after watching one of those behind-the-scenes vids, I am actually starting to look forward to this movie.

Until now, I was like, ouch, are they going to manage to not mess this up?

But NOW, now I'm hoping that I don't jinx it, and that it will actually be as cool as it seems to be...it looks amazing so far. xD
