Thoughts and Opinions Thread

First topic message reminder :

This is the thread where members can post their graphics creations for other people to see, and for thoughts and opinions to be given. Consider it a sort of 'showing off' thread, if you like, but also a place where you can receive constructive criticism for aspects of your graphic making.

Here's my latest graphic, just a simple colourisation, which I'm planning to put on the up for grabs section of my graphics site. My biggest problem with it though is, like always, the text. I'm not sure if it overpowers the image.

I wanted something to put into a frame behind my bead cause the wall was looking very bare so I made this:

I like it. Better then mine.But it could be a little lighter, but other wise its good.

well, I was bored. so I decided to expirement. I always use the transparency tool when I put textures and such on, but here I tried it with an image of a face(s).... not sure if I like it or not though. what do you think?

Here's a header I made for a site I'm planning. I don't completely like it, but can't put my finger on why. I'll probably change the 'unleash your mind' bit. Anyway. Opinions?

this might not help but maybe the back ground could be a journal with scratch threw some words adn the under it writers unblocked: unleas your mind. You know like on the journal? Just a thought though?

I agree that there's something missing from that banner, Streams. I think the block colour of the green background looks odd - too plain. Perhaps overlay it with a pattern?

Now, here's my banner again, much changed and hopefully much improved (though the green one was so horrid, just about anything would be an improvement... ^^). Now what? Too noisy? Odd-looking? Let me know. I'm not sure about the squiggles around the scrap paper. Also, one of my sisters says the paper looks like a brain.

I think the screwed up paper looks like a ball of screwed up paper :D The right hand side looks good - though perhaps the scribbles in the background could be sharpened up a little.

Perhaps instead of the lines around the ball of paper, you could use some brushes similar to these:

I personally like the one without all the text more...I think the text overcrowds the face. Maybe something like in between, with only two lines of conversation rather than four?

Everyone, thanks loads for your advice, and here is my banner yet again, spruced up some more...I think now it really might be too busy. Although my bro says, isn't that the point? xD But I dunno. What do you guys think? Should I clear some space around the title? Color some of the background text? Center the title more?

I like the left hand side now, around the paper. I do agree that perhaps the right hand side around the title is a bit too busy now...maybe lighten the writing texture up a bit by lowering the opacity?

By the way, I'm interested in seeing the site that goes with this banner :D

Mwehh. Here it is yet again, and I'm still not completely happy with it. It's missing something - a final oomph. Although maybe I'm just sick of playing around with it since yesterday. xD

Hmm. Maybe I'll add a colorful border. Later. ^^



The site is going to be awesome (arrogant? who, me?) ...as soon as I'm done with it, which may take awhile, as I'm one person doing everything. I've set a completion deadline for July/August. Trust me, I'll be heavily advertising the site around here after all the work I'm putting into it, and besides, I think a lot of writers around here might like it. I'll make sure to issue you a personal invitation to check it out when it's done. *g*

Oh, I had an idea! I think what's missing is that the white background is just a little too plain.

You could use a texture like one of the following, set to multiply or overlay or something underneath the other layers maybe - lighten the opacity and it might give it that oomph you're talking about?

Also, you could try adding a drop shadow to the text - it looks a little flat at the moment.

I think that's great! Although the quoted font is a little hard to read, being a very similar colour to the background.

I like it :] cute... but the block over the top right picture is kinda annoying me... other than that it is good.

I made this for my german class. We had to create a movie poster, and I chose Twilight. What do you think? not my best.....

Hehe, well that wasn't intentional - I was trying out several fonts then used Zephyr before I realised that it was the Twilight font.

And thanks, everyone! Making skins is fun...Marie's asked me to do some for her site, so I might try a couple more today.

Amy, that banner looks absolutely amazing! I think I went on that site before, just in lurkdom, but never got around to signing up. I should go back and look at it now that I actually have time..lol

here's a random sig i made, at first for the badge burrow but i might not use it. I feel like it has too much of one thing and not enough of another..but i'm not sure what XD

Those look nice! Just one suggestion for the second one- for the lines of words, you could draw the colors for them from her hair... if that makes sense... it does in my mind... anyway, I think that would look nice against the dark background

I haven't made a graphic in forever... getting back in the swing of things... it's not very good...
