masquerade ball

I pm'd elfie and asked and she said it was fine as it will get people into the spirit for the big masquerade event later on.

so here we are, a masquerade ball


::the great hall was decorated with a spectacular array of lights and tinsel as it awaited the arrival of the students in masks::

::She walked into the hall, mask on her face, wondering whether anyone would recognise her::

::Amber smiled as Skully and kitty came over to dance.::

"You all know that we are crazy right?"

::Traci let loose a little more and started dancing even crazier if possible.

"Everyone having fun in the ball of crazy ppl with masks." she said loudly. Dhe started to do the disco but stopped and started to breakdance badly. Laughing the whole time.
"Hey kitty long time no see" she smiled and continued to dance.

::Cookie laughed at Traci's attempt at breakdancing. Grabbing her ankle, she tried to do the jack-knife, which looked more like her jumping around having a seisure than actual dancing.::

::Unfortunately, as she was hopping around, she heard a tearing sound. Looking down, she saw that she had stepped on her dress with her heels, and there was a long rip up the side.::

"Um, guys, I'll be right back," Cookie told Amber and Traci, gesturing to her dress. Pinching the fabric together, she hobbled over to a table, took out her wand and started mending her dress. She noticed how tired she was.::

Wow, I didn't think I'd have so much fun without a date, she thought as she held her wand to the almost completely mended tear.

::Lifey smiled widly as the thriller came on.::

::she walked out onto the dance floor, pulling friends with her, and started to dance...rather badly but oh well.::

::Amber laughed at Traci and Cookie. But refesed to try to do what they were after all she forgot her wand, and really it would be a pitty if she torw her dress like Cookie.::

"Hey guys I'm gonna go sit down!" She yelled to the group.

::She walked over to an empty table and sat down.::

"So, what house are you in?" Why didn't he think of that earlier? If he atlest knew her house, maybe he could figure out who she was. His emerald eyes turned towards the starlit sky as a shooting star whizzed past, illuminating the sky and reflecting in his eyes. "Brilliant." He smiled and looked over at her, hearing her whisper to herself "make a wish." He looked back to the brilliant star as it vanished from sight, thinking to himself.

"So, what house are you in?"

"The pride of Ravenclaw," she said smiling. "Beater on the Quidditch team. You?"

::Perhaps I shouldn't have said I played. Oh well, no harm done., she thought. A hint to who he is...::

"Ravenclaw?" He nodded with a smile. "I have a lot of friends in Ravenclaw." He looked down at her and fiddled with his mask with his free hand. "Gryffindor pride, my lady, Gryffindor pride." He looked out towards the Black Lake and then back to her. "Not on the Quidditch team...yet. I'm not involved in too much...yet, but I will be." He looked thoughtful a moment. "You're on the Quidditch team?" He cocked his head to the side and looked a bit perplexed as he tried to figure out who she was.

"That I am. I'm new to the team this year but so ready to do more to help!" She smiled, laughing slightly and said, "Not the average look for a Beater, eh? Though I'm small, I'm strong, and have the advantage of being able to go faster then the others, letting me get to the Bludger before it knocks out one of my teammates. I wanted Chaser, but if I would have that position I would be on the reserve team, and hey, we need female Beaters."

::She mirrored him, cocking her head, wondering who he was. Well, we can rule out three fourths of the school...::

"I want to be more active in the school this year, which I plan on being. I'm trying out for Beater and Seeker for the Quidditch Team this year, hopefully I'll make it. I'm fast as the devil and twice as wicked." He grinned a mischievous grin and looked into her eyes through her mask. He still looked a bit perplexed as to who she was, but he knew he'd find out at the unmasking. "Did you sign up for the Quadwiazrd Tournament?"

"I'm sure you'll make the team," she said, grinning impishly. "It'd be fun to play against each other, see who really is the quickest. Or maybe some other time we could play. And yes, I did sign up for the Tournament. Though, I don't think I'll be picked, I thought it would be best to sign up. Y'know, encourage the other Ravvies."

"We'll just have to see then won't we?" Though you really couldn't tell he raised his brows slyly. "I hope I'm picked, dangerous stuff is the best." He looked around and then back to her. "Say...when's the unmasking?"

"I have no idea. I'm sure they'll announce it or something," she said. "Anxious to finally discover who the girl hiding under the mask is?" she asked grinning and raising her eyebrows. Because I'd like to know who you turn out to be.::

"And about the Quadwizard Tournament, I would like to do the ones that take more thought and skill than just bravery. Being the true Ravenclaw that I am, I think it would be more challenging to kind of know what was coming, you know, have to put the pieces together, and then find things out on your own. Just what I think," she said, looking up at him. I can't wait for the unmasking now, she thought.::

::Ginny walked back out of a broom closet which she'd somehow managed to get locked in. Rotten locks.... she thought to herself as she dusted off her dress. She looked around for a place to sit, and saw an empty seat next to a girl in a lime green dress. The color looked vaguely familiar to her, but she shrugged off the feeling and sat down next to her.::

"Hello," ::she said cheerfully.:: "Enjoying the ball? I hope the unmasking is soon, I want to know who everybody is."

::Amber looked up and smiled at the girl.::

"Well i am enjoying the ball, im just a tad bit tired ya know?" She replied.

::She nodded::

"Yeah, I know what you mean. Of course, I have a bit of pent up energy, seeing as how I've been locked in a broom closet for the last two pages of this" ::the red head said with a slight laugh.::

"I like your dress by the way, very nice color."

::Cookie looked over, seeing Amber talking to a nice looking girl. At least someone is making a new friend, she thought, vaguely disappointed that she had recognized all of her friends. That's the point of masquerades, the fun- the mystery and risk that the person you are making friends with is really your enemy, and the person you get into an arguement or the person that makes that stinging comment about your hair or dress is really your best friend...

::Sighing, Cookie got up to get more punch from the refreshment table. As she got up, however, she tripped over a chair leg and fell to the ground. Looking down at her dress as she got up, she saw a huge rip up the opposite side. Rolling her eyes and groaning, she tapped her dress with her wand, making it knee-length. Losing the weight of the rest of the skirt, it puffed up slightly, but Cookie didn't care.::

"At least I wont trip again," she muttered to herself, heading to the refreshment table.::

::Amber laughed.::

"Thanks, i wanted to be noticed, atleast until i came in then i was not wanting to me noticed, but whats done is done,"

"Hopefully soon...it's getting a bit late, isn't it?" He smiled and released her hand a moment to tug on his leather gloves. Bloody things...."Maybe." He grinned another mischievous grin. "Well, you know us Gryffindors...bravery over cunning, you know." It was becoming aparent that he was hiding his accent as best he could...a rather thick Irish one at that.

"Ah yes, the couragous Gryffindors," Elana said smiling. She then cocked her head again, thinking that something wasn't right. "Are you feeling okay," she asked concerned, eyes widening in the holes of her mask. "It sounds like you have something in your throat."

He nodded and smiled down at her. "Yep, that's me." He raised a questioning brow and cocked his head slightly to the side. "What?" Oh, damn it. He cleared his throat and raised one finger as if telling her to wait. "I'm sorry, I often try to hide the accent." His Irish accent now popped out like a sore thumb and he offered a sheepish smile.

"I happen to like Irish accents," she said grinning. "There's nothing wrong with it. Why do you try and hide it?"

::She began twirling another curl around a finger, amazed at how easy this conversation was.::

"Well, I'm the kind of person who tends to get to talking rather fast, and with such a thick accent...people don't understand what I'm saying." He scratched the back of his head with his free hand and smirked. "Well, I suppose if you like it I won't hide it anymore." He winked one emerald eye at the gril, smiling.

::Elana blushed, laughing softly. "You do that. No need to hide who you are, but you had a good reason. Funny advice coming from someone wearing a mask, eh?" She grinned, so glad that they both had decided to come.::

He chuckled a bit and stopped walking, looking down at her. "That is true." He looked down at the ground a minute and the back up at her. "I'm glad I came, I'm having a great time with you." Yeah...a bit...out of the blue, but that was just how he was.

"I am too," she replied softly. Elana stopped beside him, smiling as she looked into his eyes, eyes that were shining in the bright light of the moon. Green, emerald green, like mine. He just sounded so....honest. She couldn't help liking the time she was spending at his side. She checked her mask, making sure it was tied tight enough so that it wouldn't fall off anytime soon..::

How could this be happening to him of all people? Normally, when he went to a school dance, the girl's acted as if he were the plague (though he couldn't see why, he knew he had looks like the devil.) He noticed for the first time that her eyes, sparkling in the stars, reflected the same emerald green back at him and he smiled. Brilliant He tugged at his gloved, making sure the blasted things stayed on and ran a hand through his hair (nasty habit.) He was, for the first time he could think of, nervous around a girl. Part of him wanted to just show her all the best and the other wanted to go hide in his four poster in Gyrffindor Tower.

(Gah, sorry if it seems like I'm trying to copy you. I'm not, promise. Great minds work alike, eh? I was thinking of getting Elana nervous in my next post today, and look what happened?!)

::Elana saw the boy get nervous, and suddenly became shy. She bit her bottom lip and began fiddling with one of her silver hoop earrings with her right hand, something she only did when nervous. Goodness, what has gotten into me? I was perfectly calm a moment ago. She cradled her right elbow in her left palm, staring down at the ground, not knowing what to do. It's not like I've had any practice with this sort of thing, she thought. I've never been asked out, president of the DCotHE (Datless Club of the Hogwarts Experience) that I am. What am I supposed to do?! She snuck a look up at the boy, seeing that he seemed as suddenly nervous as she was. Things changesso fast, don't they?::

(I don't mind. Lol. And indeed they do, great mindds are one ha ha)

He only played with his hair like that when he was nervous...or bored because it was a convenient pass time. It wasn't like he hadn't been around girls...they just usually told him to bugger off. He offered an awkwardly charming smile and scratched his head.Get it together, O'Riley. He was at a loos for both words and action as he stared down at her like a deer caught in the headlights. "Ah...." He looked down and continued to scratch his head. My...this was...awkward. What was he suppose to do? He was making himself look like a bloody git.[/u]

::Elana smiled back shyly, still fiddling with the earring. She leaned against the hedges that bordered the path they were on, elbows on top of them, head turned up, looking up at the sky. She was between two faries, they were placed about two feet apart, their colorful light brightening the otherwise dark grounds.::

::Just relax, she thought, breathing in the cool air. Relaxing is good. Just act natural like nothing's gone wrong. I don't even know why things started going this way. Strange...Oh yeah, relax. She smiled again, a 'let's see if we can count Lannie's teeth' smile. There, relaxing. Now was that so hard, Lannie? Didn't think so. Just keep relaxing...::

::Oh, stop kidding yourself! I can't do this! she thought frantically after another moment of silence. She looked up at the Tower thinking of how nice it would be to go there and escape, but then out of the corner of her eye she saw him standing there, nervous as heck. He had been so wonderful to her, still was wonderful. Her heart melted, and any thought of leaving evaporated. She smiled to herself, and thought, Well, it can't hurt to stay a little longer...::

::Kitty snapped out of her daze to see that there were actually more guys here and then realized she was in her circle of friends and they were all chatting::
"Ohhh hello skully and cookie and Lifey and amber" she said sounding a little ditzy since she was out of it for a while.::

::Cookie grinned at Kitty as she passed by. "Hey! Enjoying the ball so far?"::

::She patted down the skirt of her dress, which was very poufy now that she had shortened it. Swallowing, she realized just how hungry she was. Cookie decided to continue to the table after she chatted with Kitty.::

Traci walked up to kitty and cookie. "so how is your dress problem going....Oh i see you shortened it nice move it looks nice." she was tired now from all the dancing so she went to join amber and someone else at the table.

"Hey" she said sitting down next to amber. "hi" she said to the other girl

::Shawn wandered aimlessly around the room that was elegantly decorated and went over to talk to a group of girls:::

You're acting like such an idiot, O'Riley! GET A GRIP!! Yes, getting a grip would be good. He had been in the face of werewolves and vampires (various members of the family) and he was standing here, quivering in hte presence of a girl? Never. Not him. You are panikcing...stop panicking...how can I stop panicking?! His dark corner of the universe known as his bed began to look very good about now. You can't leave you nitwit... That's right, no leaving. Act natural...you know how to do that, right? Indeed he did...and so he should. He smiled and took a deep breath. "Say, why don't we had back to the Hall? The unmasking outght to be sometime soon." He offered a charming wink and again offered his hand to her.

::Lifey sipped her gilly water her eyes wondering away from her group of friends as her mind drifted.::

::She spied a young man heading in their direction, he looked rather bored. he looked like the boy she had greated earlier who had been with jesse::

"Hey," ::she said, swishing over in her long gown, adjusting her mask:: "You look familiar...have we met?"

"Say, why don't we had back to the Hall? The unmasking outght to be sometime soon."

"Wonderful idea," she said, smiling and taking his hand. Thank goodness, she thought.::

::They entered the crowded hall, and Elana couldn't help grinning. It was so beautiful, everyone was having a great time, it was perfect.::

"I wonder what the unmasking will be like," she said. "Strange to think that we'll finally know who everyone is when we've only seen them with masks for the last few hours."

::Finally know who you are, she added silently.::

Great...back in the room full of people...maybe he'd chill out...hopefully. He nodded as they entered the crowded hall once more. "It ought to be interesting, finding that you've either been spending the night with someone you know or someone you hate. It should be like this all the time...no more house rivalry." He shrugged. Of course it couldn't be that way...it was a nice sentiment though.

"I completely agree! Lots of times I think there's too much tension throughout the houses, and I can't deny being a bit too defensive of Ravenclaw," she said grinning.

"I can't deny being defensive either." He paused and scratched his head. "But it is a lot better without all that." He smiled and looked about the hall before looking back to her. "What would you like to do now?"

::She thought for a moment, tilting her head to the side and biting her lip. She could barely hold in the excitement that was bubbling inside of her. He wanted to be with her!::

"We could...dance? Get drinks? Eat? Talk to other partygoers? Any sound good to you? I'm open to anything."

::Dancing sounds fun, but I wonder where everyone else is...::

He stroked his chin in mock thoughtfulness. "A dance sounds like a good idea. Afterall, I've only gotten one out of you tonight." He winked at her though his black lather mask and smiled.

"So true," Elana said grinning, eyes shining. "A dance it is."

::She walked with him to the dance floor, placed her left hand on his shoulder, seeing that her right was already in his. As the soft music played the atmosphere relaxed, and Elana once again found herself as happy as could be.::

"So it is." He placed his left hand on her shoulder and smiled brightly. "So, if I may ask, are you with anyone?" He felt a blush creep up his cheeks, thankfully under his mask.

"Nope," Elana said brightly, looking up at him. "Never have been, actually. Sure, sometimes I think how nice it would be in a relationship, but then I just become closer to my girls. We actually are thinking of starting a club that makes people feel better about not having a boy friend or girl friend. The DCotHE, Datless Club of the Hogwarts Experience." She laughed, remembering how the idea had come to Amber. "I was talking to Amber and a few other girls one night and someone mentioned their boy friend and the rest of us didn't have boy friends so Amber got the idea that we could make a club! Now we're trying to get people to join. I'm one of the co-presidents even."

::She smiled, not bothered at all that he had asked. It gave them something to talk about, after all.::

"Odd idea for a club, isn't it? But some people just think that they need to be in a relationship and what we're trying to do is dismiss that idea. To make it okay to be single, because even when you're not dating anyone you're not really alone as long as you have friends. Even though it doesn't have enough members yet, I've already become closer with the girls that were there when the idea came."

:: Cookie grinned at Traci and her comment about her dress. Deciding that she was very hungry (her stomach was growling loudly) she wound her way around the tables in the hall, holding down her dress's skirt as she walked.::

::She grabbed a few cookies off of the table, put them on a plate, and sat down at an empty table. Munching on them, she looked around at all the people having fun. It was a slow song on now, and there a few couples dancing. Looking at the dance floor, Cookie saw a vaguely familiar girl dancing with someone. Aw, she thought. They make a cute couple...

::Picking up another cookie, she reflected on why she had come to the ball in the first place. She had wanted to meet somone new, and maybe dance with a guy or two. So far, she hadn't done either...::

::Amber sighed and got up from the table. She looked around at the many people having a great time. She smiled, glad she had come even though nothing exciting had happened atleast it was better then nothing.::

He smiled and nodded as the glided about the dance floor. "Suprising." He looked down at her, tilting his head to the side slightly. "I haven't either though." He chuckled and shook his head. "I'm not so quick on my feet with girls." He shrugged to himself and listened to her ideas. "Its good that you're close to people and that you don't absolutely have to have a guy on your arm to function. Girls who do are a bit scary." He shook his head. "Not really. I like the idea...it gives people a chance to meet other people in the same situation and maybe find other things in common." He chuckled again. "Hell, I just might join."

"Wonderful! Glad you like the idea. The first possible guy to join the DCotHE!" she said brightly, grinning. Then she said jokingly, "Not so quick on your feet with girls? Who is this speaking? Certainly not who I've been with this whole time." She raised her eyebrows, surely he must be kidding!::

He smiled. "In a club full of girls." He chuckled. "Lucky me, eh?" He closed his eyes and smirked. "I'm normally not so charismatic around girls. The nervousness gets to me. I've been a nervous wreck this whole time, whether it shows or not is another story."
